Snapchat
We are aware that Snapchat, a social media app, has recently been updated with a new feature called
‘Snapmaps’.
Snapmaps allows Snapchat users to view each other’s locations. Clearly this can have safety implications
if the location of children is publically visible.
If your child uses Snapchat, we would strongly advise that you put the app in ‘ghost mode’ which means that their location will not be shared. To do this click the settings ‘cog’ within Snapchat then click on ‘see
my location’.
Childnet have published a useful article with more information: http://www.childnet.com/blog/introducing-snap-
maps-the-new-location-sharing-feature-in-snapchat

Literacy: Language for Learning
Why is writing important? The National Literacy Trust have published research showing that children who enjoy writing and who
write creatively outside school do significantly better in the classroom.
The report stresses that helping children develop a love of writing is important for their academic success.
National Writing Day will play a crucial role in helping children discover that creative writing can be fun and can also boost their attainment, confidence, aspiration and imagination. National Writing Day is
coordinated by First Story, a literacy charity who aims to change young lives through writing, and is
supported by 35 partners, including the National Literacy Trust.

Year 9 – Mrs Cole
Equipment:-
On visiting lessons over the last few days, it is disappointing to see that a lot of Year 9 students do not
have their basic equipment e.g. pens, pencils, ruler, calculator etc. it is essential they have their equipment
with them every day in order to access their lessons. Please check with your child that they have
everything they need.
Attendance:-
Well done to 9E with 96.9% attendance last week.
Absences - Please remember to call our student absence line on 01553 773606 by 8.35am if possible on
the morning of every day of absence.
Lates:-
Should your child arrive late to school, it not only affects their attendance but also disturbs the learning of
other students which is clearly unacceptable. Please therefore ensure your child arrives to school no later
than 8.35am.
Uniform:-
Please remember to check your child is in the correct uniform every day. If for any reason they are not
then please supply them with a note to show to members of staff on request. Girls’ uniform – skinny
trousers are not allowed despite sometimes being sold in the “uniform section” of high street department
stores, traditional school trousers or knee length skirts please. PLEASE NOTE should a student not have
a note from home – they will receive a 30 minute detention after school on that day.

Year 10 – Mr Waring I had the pleasure to escort a number of our year 10 students this week on a geography trip to a pretty little place called Holt, students got to measure the depth, flow rate and river bed composition. A trip made
even better with the fantastic warm weather we had and oh yes, watching Mrs Pettitt struggle as her foot
got stuck in the mud, almost losing her shoe.
For the last 6 weeks, 10W have made Mr Shaw, their form tutor a very proud teacher, as he witnessed his
form class achieve some impressive attendance figures and be champion attendees. However, finally they
have lost their champions crown as 10R reclaimed their attendance crown back with an impressive attendance figure of 96.3%. Well done to all of 10R for overhauling 10W.
I was so pleased to some very different names topping our achievement chart this week that I decided it
was only right to give them all the recognition they deserve. Top of the charts came, Saffron Hudson /
Amber Scott and Caitlin Saddleton, so well done to those 3 ladies but a huge well done to all of you. The top achieving form class award this week went to 10A congratulations to them, with the remaining form
class results as follows;
10A 250
10D 170
10E 110
10G 235
10K 200
10N 225
10R 180
10W 215
Congratulations to Ryan Maia 10G for being nominated year 10 language star of the week
Congratulations also go to Lacey Baker and Alfie Crown for sports stars of the week
A huge well done from everybody in year 10 goes to Lucy Koenigsberger who represented Norfolk
Athletics at a recent 2 day English Schools Athletics Championships being held in Birmingham. Well done
Lucy, you have done us all very proud.

Sixth Form News:
Want to join us at 6th form?
We held a very busy taster day on Wednesday. The day was well attended and hopefully students went away with a good idea of what they want to study in September. If your child hasn't yet applied, it's not too
late. They can still complete the application form on the website or email us [email protected]
We will be around on results day and students can accept their places then if they wish. It is worth noting
that in light of recent government advice we will be accepting Grade 4 in Maths and English rather than
the advertised grade 5, however some universities may stipulate a 5 grade. If you are at all unsure whether your child meets the entry criteria then please contact us and we will be happy to help.
Year 12 work shadowing
Our year 12 students have been busy at work this week, getting a flavour of the world of work. We have

Year 13
We hope our year 13 students are starting to wind down after their exams. We will be around on A level
results day from 9.00 AM to help with accepting university offers or with practical help should results not
be what we had hoped.
