Kenyir Lake

Malaysia is one of the exotic land lies that at the heart of Southeast Asia. The country is located between 1-degree

latitude to 7-degree latitude and 99 degree longitude to 120-degree longitude. To the south lies Singapore and to the

north is Thailand as our neighboring country. To the west of the Strait of Malacca is Sumatra and Southern part of

Terengganu facing towards South China Sea is among the 13 states in Malaysia. It has the longest crystal sandy beach in

the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Well known for her emerald sea, golden sunlight and coral island rich in marine

life. Bordered by Kelantan to the northern part and Pahang to the western and southern part.

Kenyir Lake became one of the most magnificent tourist sports in Terengganu as well as in Malaysia. Kenyir luxurious

forest is located in the district of Hulu Terengganu, which lies at a longitude of 102 degree 40 minutes and 4 degree and

40 minutes in latitude. It is believed that the rain forest is the world oldest tropical rainforest. The forest also serves as a

part of Malaysia National Park.

The lake is known as a unique tourist destination for her beautiful scenario of tropical forest and widely known for its

valuable flora and fauna species. It is believed that the area is the habitat of more than 8000 species of flowers, 2500

species of plants and trees, 8000 species of orchids, 370 species of birds and 300 species of fresh water fish. They live

Three fourth of the world is covered with water. While

ocean and seas make up about 97.3 percent of the of the

global water resources. On the other hand only a petty

rivers and is available as water supply. As a result of the

streams each year. Bare in mind we must share this water with other living things such as fishes, plants and animals.

There are three main categories of fishing; sea angling, course fishing and game fishing. Both coarse and game fishing

are practiced in freshwater, differing in the fishes. The fish species come into hundreds of count and there are several

techniques of fishing too. In the case of water authority reservoirs, the license includes permission.

Fishing is a sport, a sport that need full commitment, discipline and participants. Its rewards are a respect for nature.

They still enjoy themselves even if the fish are not biting the bait. For anglers, fish in the bag are a bonus, showing an

enjoyable and relaxing of a day or night by the water.

To help newcomer in fishing discipline, he/she can join the local angling club. The beginner must bare in mind while

handling fish because these creatures have a complex nervous system. They do not shout "Ouch!" so we do not sure

There are two jetties at Kenyir Lake. The main jetty is Pengkalan Gawi and the other option is Jenagor Jetty (mostly for

houseboat). The distance from Kuala Terengganu to Pengkalan Gawi is approximately 80 km. If you are from Kuala

Lumpur, please take Karak Highway to Jerangau Jabor Highway and proceed to Ajil to reach Kuala Berang town and

onwards to Kenyir. Or you may take the alternative journey along coastal road through Kemaman, Dungun, Kuala

Terengganu and through Kuala Berang to Kenyir Lake. The daily express buses from Hentian Putra Terminal (nearby

PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur also provide the service. There is bus express namely Express Tasik Kenyir, which travels

directly to Kenyir Lake (last stop at Pengkalan Gawi).

By Land

Entrance (RM 1.00), fishing (RM 10.00), camera (RM 5.00), camping (RM 1.00). Kenyir Lake (the water area) becomes

National Park (10 percent of Terengganu National Park). This National Park is joining together with other state of Paha

Terengganu. It will take about 45 minutes journey by speedboat from Pengkalan Gawi. The houseboat package (Kenyir Lak

Anchorage does provide this trip to the National Park, so take this trip and enjoy nature!!! The permit for entering Nation

person and for camping fee is RM3 per person. Ping Anchorage will arrange this for you.

Bare in mind when you are in National Park :
