to the 2012-2013 FBLA-PBL membership year.

As we “Ignite Innovation” this year I encourage you to participate in the various programs that prepare our members to be college and career ready. Your FBLA National Officer Team has developed a program of work that challenges members to stepoutside oftheir comfort zone and participate in the various programs offered by FBLA. Your Southern Region Executive Board has been working diligently promoting this program of work and developing innovative projects to complete this year. I encourage you to keep motivated and determined to innovate this year with the projects offered by your national officer team and Southern Region Executive Board. I look forward to working with your chapters this year, and if you need any assistance feel free to contact me.

NFLCs will spark your passion for FBLA-PBL and arm you with the tools you need to IGNITE INNOVATION in the coming year. Dynamic workshops, keynote speakers, endless networking opportunities, and three great venues

make the 2012 NFLCs not-to-miss events! Come network, learn, and interact with other future business

leaders. Visit the exhibits for information about universities and

colleges, new technologies, and fund-raising opportunities.

FBLA-Middle Level members get ready to ZOOM ahead in the FBLA-Middle Level Academy! Charlotte is one of America’s great centers of racing and the perfect setting for high speed FBLA leadership and the ZOOM leadership acceleration

program!Through the FBLA-Middle Level Academy members will gain experience

and expertise using the “RACE” leadership formula: Role of Leaders, Active

Participation, Communication Skills, and Etiquette and Style! FBLA ML Academy is

in Charlotte on November 17,

National Fall Leadership Conference- Charlotte

Collin Potter, a senior at Montgomery County Area Technology Center in Mount Sterling, Kentucky, is delighted to serve as

your Southern Region vice president. Collin’s FBLA career has included local,

regional, state, and national officer positions. Along with being an FBLA

competitor, Collin has served as a local parliamentarian and president, regional

parliamentarian, two-term state vice president, and a member of the Southern

Region Board. He is also involved in Mock Trial, Student Council, Y-Club, Beta Club, and National Honors Society. Collin looks

forward to sharing a great year Igniting Innovation with the members and advisers

of our great organization.

Andy Alfonso, a sophomore at Mater Academy Charter High School is thrilled to serve the members of the Southern Region. Throughout his five years in FBLA, Andy has served as a Middle-Level President, High School Vice-President, and District President. Thanks to his many years of

involvement with the organization, he truly understands the needs of the members, and the dedication required to advance FBLA

to new heights of success. Andy looks forward to increasing involvement at the national level, improving communication between all levels of FBLA, and ensuring

that members are aware of the many benefits and opportunities that are available

to them.

Adrienne Kronovet, a senior at Marvin Ridge High School in Waxhaw, North Carolina,is

thrilled to be your Executive Vice President’s Assistant. Adrienne’s FBLA careerhas

included positions on the local, state, and national levels. She has served as alocal

president, two-term State Vice President, and a member of the Southern RegionExecutive Board. She is the captain of her Speech and

Debate Team; she is alsoinvolved in the National Honor Society, National English

Honor Society, and Project FEAT. In addition, she is the coxswain on a

localrowing team. Adrienne is excited to ignite innovation and encourage the spread of

FBLA throughout the Southern Region.

Johnson Technology Center, is excited for the opportunity to serve as your

Communication’s Director. Ashley’s FBLA career started in 8th grade as the chapter secretary. Since then, she has served as a chapter president, state vice president, and most recently a member of the Southern

Region executive board. Ashley is a member of her high school’s Model UN and

multiple honor societies. In addition, she serves on student council and spends the majority of her time working as a Student

Athletic Trainer. Ashley is excited to ignite innovation throughout the Southern Region.

McKain Holman, a senior at Piggott High School, is currently serving as Arkansas FBLA’s

StateReporter, and a Vice Presidents Assistant. McKain has been actively involved in FBLA since freshman year, and is also a member of FCCLA,

and BETA. McKain works two seasonal jobs as a lifeguard and as a spook at Horror in The Hollow, and as apizza delivery boy/pizza maker at Front Street Pizza.This year, McKain looks forwardto

seeing everyone Igniting Innovation at the National Fall Leadership Conferencein

Indianapolis and nationals in California.

Hellary Zhang, a junior from Louisville Kentucky has been a member of FBLA for the past two years. She has held local and state offices, and is currently State Reporter and President of her local chapter.She

is excited to serve as a member of the Southern Region Executive Board, and her goal is to further improve the experienceof FBLA members. Apart from FBLA, Hellary is involved in the National

Honor Society and Beta Club andis a competitive fencer.

Kennedy Langton, a senior at Omaha High School, is eager to serve as the Southern

Region Webmaster.Throughout Kennedy’s four years in FBLA, she has been a Local

Chapter President, National Buzz Squadmember, and presently the Regional

Webmaster. Her competitive success includes receiving 10th at the National level in Word Processing II. Outside of FBLA, Kennedy is

the Student Body President, a VarsityCheerleader and Softball player, and a member of Mu Alpha Theta, NationalHonors

Society, National Beta Club, and Environmental and Spatial Technology.

Kennedy is excited to use her skills tobetter serve FBLA, and hopes to help be the spark

that Ignites Innovation in the Southern Region thisyear.

Megan Stelly, a junior at Beau Chêne High School in Arnaudville, Louisiana is

eager to serve as a Vice President Assistant forthe Southern Region Board.

Megan has been actively involved in FBLA ever since she was a freshman.

Megan is her local chapter president and the District V Vice President of

Louisiana. Along with FBLA, Megan is involved in Student Council, FCCLA,

Peer Leaders, Science Club, French Club, BETA Club, and the Opelousas Chamber

of Commerce: Youth Leadership Council. Megan looks forward to helping

the Southern Region members Ignite their Innovation!

PREMATURITY AWARENESS MONTH

Every year, more than half a million babies are born too soon in the United States. Our country’s premature birth rate has risen by 36 percent over the last 25 years. Premature birth costs society more than $26 billion a year and takes a high toll on families. Babies born just a few weeks early are at risk of severe health problems and lifelong disabilities. Premature birth is the number 1 killer of newborns.In 2003, the March of Dimes launched the Prematurity Campaignto address the crisis and help families have full-term, healthy babies. They’re funding lifesaving research and speaking out for legislation that improves care for moms and babies. Worldwide, 13 million babies are born prematurely each year. In 2008, the campaign was expanded globally. The Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait® program focuses on preventing preventable preterm birth. This new collaborative model is already showing signs of success. A new Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait™ education campaign began in 2011 to educate women with healthy pregnancies about the importance of waiting at least 39 weeks to give birth. November is Prematurity Awareness Month®and when the March of Dimes focuses the nation’s attention on premature birth. The awareness month kicks off on November 1 with the release of the 2011 Premature Birth Report Card. November 17 marks World Prematurity Day, and the March of Dimes and our partner organizations worldwide are asking everyone to help spread the world on the serious problem of premature birth.
