Moncell Allen, Chris Draytonand Markus Boswell were threehighly touted University of Ken-tucky signees from 2006 who did-nt make it to campus.
Instead of falling into the scrapheap, the three players embarked
on individual journeys, some fea-turing quite a few curves, and allthree have made it back.
Allen, Drayton and Boswellwere in uniform for UKs MediaDay last Friday, and the trioseemed to exhale at the fact thatthey were finally in blue and white.
It was a battle and a struggle,
but Im finally here, Drayton said.Allen, a 5-foot-7, 225-pound run-
ning back, took the most difficultpath. He committed to UK duringhis junior year at Holy Cross HighSchool in New Orleans but wasforced to relocate before his senioryear because of Hurricane Katrina.
After a week in Houston, his
family wound up in Charlotte, N.C.,where a local family helped them.
Allen played his senior year atProvidence Day School, but all thedown time and uncertainty fromKatrina put his academic situationin disarray. He came up a pointshort on his ACT and was forcedto attend Fork Union MilitaryAcademy, where he eventuallyqualified over the summer.

AKRON, Ohio Firestone al-ways seems the perfect place for
Tiger Woods to show his beststuff. This year, the timing couldnot have been much better.
In the final event before the fi-nal major of the year, Woodsburied Rory Sabbatini and the restof the field yesterday at the Bridge-stone Invitational for an eight-shotvictory, sending his confidencesoaring as he left for SouthernHills and the PGA Championship.
This might just give me a littlemore confidence, Woods said.
It was a commanding perform-ance on a challenging course, remi-niscent of some of his major victo-ries.
He was determined to play thefinal round without a bogey, justlike the U.S. Open at PebbleBeach, and Woods showed moreemotion over saving par with a 12-
foot putt on the final hole than anyof his birdies during his 5-under65. He finished at 8-under 272.
He was the only player to finish
under par at Firestone; the onlyother times he had done that werehis two U.S. Open victories. Andafter turning a one-shot deficit in-to a six-shot lead on the front nine,Woods left everyone else playingfor second.

Kurt Buschs win was the 16th of his Cup careerand first since March 26, 2006, at Bristol, Tenn.

LONG POND, Pa. Kurt Buschs winlessdrought is over. His absence from the Chase mightnot last much longer, either, not with crew chiefPat Tryson calling all the right shots.
Busch dominated Pocono Raceway from the
opening lap yesterday and raced his way back intochampionship contention, givinghimself a perfect belated birth-day gift: a trip to Victory Lane.
A day after he turned 29,Busch snapped a 51-race losingskid that lifted him into the 12thand final spot of the Chase withfive races left until the champi-onship races start.
Its been 50-something racesand that was a tough burden,Busch said.
Busch, who missed the Chase last season afterqualifying in 2004 and 2005, hadnt been in the top12 in points since a 100-point penalty for recklessdriving in June knocked him six spots down to17th.
Now hes back and on his biggest roll of the sea-
son. He turned a 13-point deficit behind Dale Earn-hardt Jr. into a seven-point edge. The big picture is weve got a few more races
to go until Richmond, Busch said.

Mets pitcher Tom Glavine
hugged pitching coach Rick Pe-terson after Glavine earned his300th career win last night.
By Rick GanoAssociated Press
CHICAGO Tom Glavine joined pitchings most presti-gious club with a vintage per-formance, changing speedsand fooling hitters in the man-ner that made him one of base-balls best.
The stylish left-handerearned his 300th victory last
night with nervous family andfriends looking on from nearthe Mets dugout on the first-base side.
Glavine left with a five-runlead after 61/3 innings, andNew Yorks bullpen held on for
an 8-3 victory over the Chica-go Cubs.
I think the feeling rightnow is probably relief,Glavine said. At some pointin time, I dont know when,
the historic side of it will sinkin. I know the company Im in,and Im as proud as can be tobe in that company.
Wife Christine Glavinewiped tears from her eyes asBilly Wagner retired MikeFontenot on a grounder for thefinal out. Glavine, who watchedfrom the dugout, came out in awarmup jacket and exchangedhugs and slaps with team-mates. He then hugged his chil-dren and his wife, giving her akiss, received congratulationsfrom his parents and waved tothe crowd.
Its over with now, hesaid after hugging his
youngest son.Glavine (10-6) became the
23rd pitcher with 300 victo-ries, the first since formerteammate Greg Madduxreached the milestone in 2004while with the Cubs.
