NOTICE OF A PUBLIC PARTICIPATION PROCESS FOR AMENDMENT AND / OR GENERAL AUTHORISATION OF COASTAL

WATERS DISCHARGE PERMIT (CWDP) IN TERMS OF SECTION 69 OF THE INTEGRATED COASTAL MANAGEMENT (ICM ACT), (ACT NO. 24 OF 2008)

Applicant: JACOBSBAAI SEA PRODUCTS (PTY) LTD, Farm 18/108 Jacobsbaai

Permit Ref. Number: 2012/009/WC/JACOBSBAAI SEA PRODUCTS

WC Government EA&DP EIA Ref Number: 16/3/3/6/7/1/F4/6/3072/16

Description of Activity and Location: The discharge of approx. 700 litres per second of abalone farm effluent, into the sea, at

the coastal surfzone section in close proximity to the abalone farm, coordinates 32°57.87 ”S, 17°52.95 E, currently takes place.

The farm effluent is seawater which has passed through abalone tanks and thus contains some levels of dissolved and

undissolved nutrients. This discharge is not a new activity and has been in place since 1995. The expansion of the abalone

farm is proposed, along with a new effluent channel (Preferred Alternative 2) and therefore a new discharge point will be

applicable.

You are hereby notified that an amendment and / or General authorisation may be required for the existing CWDP should the

preferred alternative, Alternative 2, for the proposed expansion of the abalone farm, be authorised by the Western Cape

Government Environmental Affairs and Development Planning. The new discharge point will be located at approximately

32°57’29.84” S; 17°52’52.93 E.
