Immigration Project

The United States is a mosaic of nationalities, ethnicities, and religions. Most people who inhabit this great country have ancestors that took the journey to start a new life here in the U.S.A. The fact that we are all different – is the one thing we all have in common. Unfortunately many people are unaware of the reasons why their family originally came here. This project is your opportunity to get as close to that information as you can. You will do research, hopefully you can find someone in your family that you can talk to in order to gather information, you will present the information formally in a paper and informally in a presentation, and then as a class we will celebrate our small sample of that mosaic.

There are two parts to this project. The first part includes research and a short paper. All of which you will do on your own. This information will help to contribute to the group portion of the project. The second part includes the presentation and the food contribution. These two pieces you will do in a group. The group will be based on the nationality that you choose to focus your project on.

You may also want to include information on where most immigrants from that country settled in the United States. This may require research – but may be easy to determine given the immigrant you discovered when doing your family tree, interview or other research.

Famous People who immigrated to the U.S.A. from that country

This should be a good story. For example if you are researching Germany, someone like Albert Einstein would fit the requirement.

Traditions

Traditions that are country specific. Please make sure that they are actually traditions for the country. Example: Christmas is celebrated in many countries – what is it that your country does that makes it stand out.

Presentation

The presentation should show the most important or interesting information that you and your group uncovered. It should be interesting and capture your audiences’ attention (your audience is the class). Choose one of the following 1 minute Xtranormal cartoon (or something similar) iMovie PowerPoint presentation (max 3 slides) Share a custom, game, dance, traditional clothes etc. Share a poster with family images and other important information.

Celebration

All food must be approved by me before brining it in. So pick a few recipes that interest the group and submit the recipe for approval.
