The children really seem very settled already, and walking around the school the children are hard at work and concentrating on their studies. The new Year 3 pupils walk around the school as if they have been here for years - they are a very confident group. The new finishing times seem to be working well and hardly any of the chil- dren have mentioned that they dont have an afternoon break anymore. Staff News I am very pleased to announce that Mrs Akhtar gave birth to a healthy ba- by girl during the summer holidays. They have named her Aleeza Noor Akhtar. She looks very cute in the pictures but I can honestly say that I dont envy Mrs Akhtars sleepless nights! I am sure that you will join me in wishing Mrs Akhtar and her family congratulations and all the best for the future. Parents Evening It was really good to meet lots of you on Tuesday evening. I hope that the sessions gave you a good overview of what your child will be learning in school over the next term/year. A parent did write to say that as they were working it was impossible for them to come in at that time so we have arranged for the powerpoints from all of the year groups to be put onto the website. Our next parents meeting in February will be on an individual timetabled basis. If any of the parents were unable to attend and want clarification from the powerpoints please do make an appointment to see me and I will go through anything you may have missed. Lunches - New Options Our new catering arrangements seem to be working well. Kenny, still re- mains our head chef/manager but she is now joined by Belinda, a new chef. From next Monday Junior School children will be offered a deli option as well. The children can choose from half a baguette, sandwiches or a wrap. The options will be either tuna mayo, egg mayo or cheese and then the children will have the salad bar as well. It will be interesting to see how this works. Please make sure that your childs account is topped up through the ParentMail app.

Dear Parents / Carers, The first week of school seems to have gone in a flash. The children really seem very settled already, and walking around the school the children are hard at work and concentrating on their studies. The new Year 3 pupils walk around the school as if they have been here for years - they are a very confident group. The new finishing times seem to be working well and hardly any of the chil-dren have mentioned that they don’t have an afternoon break anymore.

Staff News I am very pleased to announce that Mrs Akhtar gave birth to a healthy ba-by girl during the summer holidays. They have named her Aleeza Noor Akhtar. She looks very cute in the pictures but I can honestly say that I don’t envy Mrs Akhtar’s sleepless nights!

Kenny, still re-mains our head chef/manager but she is now joined by Belinda, a new chef. From next Monday Junior School children will be offered a deli option as well. The children can choose from half a baguette, sandwiches or a wrap.

The options will be either tuna mayo, egg mayo or cheese and then the children will have the salad bar as well. It will be interesting to see how this works. Please make sure that your child’s account is topped up through the ParentMail app.

Going Greener Over the summer holidays we had 30 solar panels installed on the roof. The electricity generated by these panels will be used to sup-ply the school in the first instance before reverting back to the main supply. Hopefully this will mean cheaper electricity bills for the school for the next 25 years. More infor-mation will follow. We also recycle as much of the school waste as we can including having a separate food waste bin which goes to composting. Our site manager, Mr Bebbington is also considering having a composter on site so that we can create our own compost.

OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) In conjunction with the Infant school we have started our new playground plan for the school. We are being led through the process by a company called OPAL who support many schools throughout the UK and abroad. The main aim of the programme is to get children more active and use im-aginative play with everyday objects rather than using specific toys. We have seen the system in one of our neighbouring schools, West Lodge, where the children seem to be incredibly active and resourceful during their lunch play. You may have noticed a large green metal container in the playground. We have bought this to store the play equipment when it is not needed. In the first instance we are asking for donations of old clothes that can be used for dressing up, (hats, scarves, bags, fancy clothes) that you no longer need. We also need old bed lin-en, towels, saris, spare carpet tiles, saucepans, suitcases etc which the children can play with. These may be used for dressing up or making a ‘den’ or perhaps a pretend picnic. Your child’s imagination will take them to many unexplored places. Later on in the school year we will have a parents meeting to explain the new ideas and what we hope to accom-plish with the children. The children will still be able to play the old tradi-tional games in the playground such as football, the difference being that they will have much more choice.

Joke of the Week! I've just written a song about a tortilla. Well, it is more of a rap really.

Year 6 Parents You are about to make one of the most important parental choices affecting your child’s journey through the secondary school system. The deadline for completing your child’s high school application is the 31st October. Any applications after this date are considered late and your application will be looked at after everybody else. My advice for you now is to attend the various open evenings offered by all of the high schools and decide on your top 6 choices. These could be Harrow schools or schools from another borough, e.g. Claremont is a Brent School, or a mixture of both. Please make sure that you have registered on the e-admission website, (www.harrow.gov.uk if you are a Harrow resident). Parents from other boroughs will need to go to their own councils website, e.g www.brent.gov.uk. You can still put Harrow schools on your form.

Towards the end of September / early October we will hold a couple of sessions to help parents fill in their form or alternatively parents are able to go to the council and seek help from the admissions team, (appointment needed).

Easy Fundraising Easy fundraising is a way to give money to the school without you having to spend a penny. If you shop on line if you go through the easy fundraising website to get to your preferred shop, they will give he school a small percentage of your spend. E.g. if you have a home delivery from Asda and spend £100. Asda will then through the easyfundraising website give the school 50p. You still pay your Asda bill without anything added - it is FREE MONEY. Thank you to our amazing supporters shopping online with easyfundraising. Your support really does make a difference, so don't forget there's 3,300 shops and sites you can raise free donations with. We have nearly raised £100 through this website. Please make sure you shop the easyfundraising way every time you buy something online: https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/kpjs
