Introduction

This book is about the plants, animals and people of the rainforest. The rainforest is a tropical forest, usually of tall, densely growing, broad-leaved evergreen trees in an area of high annual rainfall. The Amazon is located in the range of 95 degrees - 75 degrees longitude, and 0 degrees - 15 degrees south latitude. The Amazon is located in Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. There are hundreds of trees being cut down each day from the Amazon rainforest and we can stop that. The rainforest is truly an amazing place and in this book I will tell you about it in a new and interesting way!

Physical FeaturesThis page is where I will tell you about the climate and land of the Amazon Rainforest The average

temperature of the Amazon is 77 degrees Fahrenheit. The climate zone of the Amazon is tropical wet and tropical dry. The average rainfall in the Amazon is 100"- 120". The Amazon also has the tallest waterfalls Angel Falls.

LayersThere are four layers of the rainforest, Emergent, Canopy, Understory and the Forest Floor. In this section I will briefly tell you about them and what lives in them.

The Emergent Layer is the very tallest layer and only the tallest trees grow to be this height. The animals that live in this layer are birds, butterflies and small monkeys.

The Canopy Layer is the second tallest layer and most trees grow to this height. The animals that live in this layer are birds, butterflies, monkeys, frogs, sloths, lizards, snakes and many insects.

The Understory Layer is the third tallest layer of the rainforest there is dense vegetation and little sunlight. The animals that live in this layer are birds,

butterflies, frogs, and snakes.

The Forest Floor is at the very bottom and is dark damp and covered in foliage, which provides camouflage for some animals. The animals that live there are land animals or animals that cannot fly or climb.

OrchidThe orchid is a flower that is often used in floral arrangements. They live in every layer of the Amazon, because they grow on TREES! They are eaten by insects. People use these flowers for decorations at parties or weddings. The orchid is

nomadic, because it grows on every layer of the rainforest. The orchid uses photosynthesis , which is the process of turning sunlight into food

to get energy. If an organism can do this that means it is a producer.

BromeliadsDid you know you eat BROMELAIDS? When you eat a PINEAPPLE you eat a bromeliad. They come in blue, purple, red, orange and many other colors. They have waxy leaves and form a bowl shape in the middle. Some of them also bloom flowers! They also grow on trees and live in every layer of the Amazon.

The predator of the bromeliads are people. They are used for food and decoration or floral arrangements. The bromeliad is an organism, because anything that is or was alive at one point is an organism.

ToucanThe toucan comes in a verity of bright colors, as well as size. The toucan has a long not sharp strong bill. The toucan's habitat or where it lives is in the Canopy Layer. The toucan's predators are the human, bigger birds, jaguars, and wild cats. Toucans are omnivores which

means, they eat both plants and animals. One of their adaptations is they use their tough bill to protect themselves.

Food Web

This is a food web. A food web is a web that shows how the energy is being transferred from one organism to another. The Jaguar is a carnivore, because it only eats meat. The Monkey is an herbivore, because it only eats plants. The

Worm is a decomposer, because it eats all other organisms after they are dead. The Toucan is an omnivore, because it eats both plants and animals.

FlamingoThe Flamingo is pink, red, and black. The feature that the flamingo is most known for is it's long legs. It lives on the Forest Floor

normally on an island surrounded by water, if possible. The flamingo's predators or what eats it are humans and larger birds. The flamingos prey or what they eat are causations and red algae. The flamingo is an omnivore. One adaptation of the flamingo is, their diet causes them to be pink and that is a bad thing, because then a predator can pick them out easy.

Yanonami The Yanonami normally live in about 8 acres of land. They live in large, circular, communal homes called yanosor shabonos. The way they use the products of the rainforest for trade is they mostly mine gold and trade it. Their culture is based off of the spirit world which is where everything has a spirit; even trees. The spirit world was indigenous there or originated there.

MachiguegaThe Machiguega tribe lives off of the land around them. They live in communities just like ours, just not as nice. They are big on hunting and using resources around them. They too base their culture on the spirit world, which means everything has a spirit including a FLOWER!

Saving the rainforestHow do people get around in the rainforest? Boat, car, foot, exchange, goods, build roads, and trade. How do humans affect the environment? Deforestation is the act of intentionally cutting down trees. Conservation is trying to save the rainforest. Ecotourism provides economic assistance. How does the environment affect humans? It gives off 30% of the world's oxygen. What types of products do people get from the Amazon? Different types of rubber, Brazil-nuts, Guaiana, Acai, Iron, Magnesium, Diamonds, Wood, Medical Plants, Lumber, and Gems.

ConclusionNow you have learned what an amazing and astounding place the Amazon is to live.
