A playing field with clearly marked territory Goals + values define the field + rules Leaders decide on players positions and roles…and then get othe pitch, letting the players get on with the 'game' Taking charge/empowerment comes from knowing the rules and what your territory/ roles is 2. Thoughts, feelings, needs and dreams are respected, listened to and acted up An individual is not in charge unless the rest of the organisation trusts and supports them to do the role Value individuals Full access to information for everyone. 3. Able but challenged Delivery expectations should be achievable. Don't undershoot = insulting. Nothing drains the system more than knowing that you're ripping othe system and not contributing. If people can't do a fair days work for fair pay it demeans them. Stretch them. It demands their best and moves them into uncharted territory THE GIFT OF THE GOOSE Cheering each other on 1. Active or passive congratulations must be TRUE TIMELY, RESPONSIVE, UNCONDITIONAL, ENTHUSIASTIC 2. No score, no game - always cheer progress Active congratulations = e.g. planned awards etc, Passive congratulations = e.g. stepping aside when team members are working on a complex project. 'Sitting on your hands' = no advice either You can't overdo TRUE congrats Cheer through the game. Drives excitement Don't wait for the end of the game Stronger congratulations (on LHS) Spontaneous vs. Programmed Individual vs. Blanket Specific vs. General Unique vs. Traditional Stop only focusing on things that went wrong. Look for things that went right 3. E=MC2 Enthusiasm = mission x cash x congratulations Mission = worthwhile work in an empowered role Cash = comes first (basic material needs)
