This project completes the U.S. 67 Bypass expansion around Cleburne for a total of $58.8 million in safety and mobility improve- ments in recent years. The completion of U.S. 67 is an extremely important project for the citizens of Johnson County, said Johnson County Judge Harmon. The new roadway will enhance the ability for our citizens to travel in a much safer mode and will reduce the travel time. I would like to express my appreciation to TxDOT for their determination to finish this roadway for our citizens. Lone Star Civil Construction, Inc. was awarded the project that will widen the existing highway to a four lane divided highway. The project will stretch along U.S. 67 from SH 174 to BUS 67/SPUR 102. Construction is estimated to begin fall 2013 and be com- pleted by summer 2016. This important project is the last of three projects that im- proves the U.S. 67 Cleburne bypass to full capacity, said Brian Barth, Interim District Engineer. 17 yr old Audrie Marie Strickland a junior at our Wanda R. Smith High School died late Saturday night after being hit by a car on highway 174 in Joshua. The accident occurred at

about 9:25 p.m. in the 500 block of South Broadway Street, Highway 174. Aud-rie Strickland died at Texas Health System’s Harris Meth-odist Hospital in downtown Fort Worth at 11:55 p.m. after being CareFlited from the scene of the accident. According to Marty Strick-

land, Audrie ‘s father, Audrie was on her way to visit a friend via her favorite mode of transportation, her bicycle,

and was headed westbound on Cooper Lane from her home to cross South Broad-way Street and was hit in the intersection. Burleson Fire Department

responded on mutual aid and assisted with the CareFlite helicopter. Keene Fire Marshal and Burleson Fire Fighter, Jake Hopps, was on the Burleson Fire Truck and was unaware of the identity of the victim. Students and staff gathered

In conjunc-tion with the open house, first year superintendent Ricky Stephens, inaugurated the first community-wide hot dog feed. Celebrate the Arts Festival Set for Nov 2

The second annual Celebrate the Arts Festival is set for No-vember 2 at the new JN Long Cultural Arts Complex at 425 Granbury street in Cleburne from 10-5 p.m. Stage shows, a car show,

exhibits of art, photography, woodcarving, a recycled art contest, youth activities, food vendors, door prizes, tours of the historic 1915 JN Long elementary school and more will round out the festival. Admission is free. Exhibitors are giving door prizes. “There’s something for

everyone here,” said Alden

Nellis, president of Cleburne Friends of the Cultural Arts, sponsor of the festival. “Come on out and celebrate with us.” Cleburne Friends of the

Cultural Arts has signed a lease with CISD for the JN Long campus for use and development as a Cultural Arts Complex. Adult Ed will continue to use the annexes this year. CFCA has use of the gym, cafeteria, main building and grounds. A children’s garden has al-

ready been planted on the NW corner, and Schoolhouse Lilies are already blooming.

The new Cultural Arts Complex in Cleburne will soon have its own sign in front of the historic 1915 building.

Statements From Forum

Candidate Robert Bischoff wants to make it a priority to build some sidewalks for the students to walk on as they come and go from the school along North Eastern and East 4th Street. His many years of public service at the city and his experience as a pharma-ceutical sales person will give him needed insight and to give encouragement to the new superintendent.

Incumbent Judy Miles states with her almost 40 years in education, 9 at the high school level and 30 years at the col-lege level will give her an ad-vantage to face the challenges of the Keene ISD. She is of the opinion that the school dis-trict is running well and feels honored that she was asked by Wanda Smith to fill a vacancy on the board 2 years ago.

Candidate Donnie Beeson has a history of being on the board at the school his children his attended. His son is presently attending the Keene High School and he would like to continue being an involved parent. His busi-

ness experience and his past board experiences will assist him in his duties on the Keene ISD board of trustees. He sees the supt as a visionary and would like participate in his goals and policies for a better educational experience for all the students of KISD. Candidate Edgardo Perez

will utilize his business experience to assist in policy making for the district. He has had children and grand chil-dren attend Keene ISD as well as his wife and mother in law are teachers at other schools. He values good education and would strive to enrich the sports program at the district.

Incumbent Geri Mont-gomery was an employee of the district for 29 years of which 26 years were with former Supt Wanda Smith. Her grandchild is currently enrolled in the district. She bleeds blue and white the school colors of KISD. She would like to work on im-proving the drop out rate of the district. She wants more students to graduate from high school. Incumbent Sheri Hadley has

had children in the schools since 1995. She too bleeds blue and white and thinks Wanda Smith as a superinten-dent and knows the children of the district are its biggest assets.

Incumbent Gary Heinrich has experience on other boards and has two months experi-ence on the KISD board. He was appointed in September to fill an unexpired term of a resigned board member. His experience as mayor of Keene will assist him in his duties on the board. He wants the students of the district to be prepared to educated enought to be able to produce a lively-hood for their family and be able to give back to the com-munity in the future. Candidate Evamarie Erazo

(No Picture Available) is a product of the Keene ISD and is very proud of her education she received. She is bilingual, an Islander and a team player. As a team player she would like to join the board to make things happen.

Candidate Michael Nightin-gale has 4 children in the dis-trict’s schools. He is new to the community and is retired military. He understands civil and moral authority and want to strive for excellence in the schools. He has fresh unbias views and would like to hear the differing viewpoints from the residents of the Keene ISD. Wants KISD to be the best.

Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church. She loved gardening, oil painting, and especially her dogs. Cleofe loved her family more than anything. She was preceded in death

Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013. She was born May 29, 1996 in Cleburne, Texas to Martin Strickland and Michelle Wilkerson. She was a junior at the Keene High School where she had many friends. Audrie left this world doing what she loved the most, riding her bike. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her grandmoth-er, Penny Armstrong.She is survived by her
