So WHY are we here?

3

Good apps should be exciting. They should inspire creativity in you and your students. The purpose of technology in the classroom is not to add bells and whistles! We should use these SUPER COOL tools only if they can make us better at what we do.

We WANT to use our devices more effectively.

We NEED solutions to everyday problems in our classrooms.

GUIDED ACCESS is a lifesaver.

Set up Guided Access:Tap Settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access to set up Guided Access.

To start a Guided Access session, follow these steps:Open the app you want to use.Triple-click the Home button.

Adjust settings for the session, and then tap Start.

• Scenario: I want my students to use my device in class, but I don’t want them to leave the app.

You ALREADY have what it takes.

6

STORAGE: iCloud has backup plans available for purchase and most apps save and export through email.

CLASS MANAGEMENT: Sometimes all you need is a notepad or a camera.

RECORDING: Voice Memos can be exported fairly easily.

WHITEBOARD TOOLS: Keynote has a lot of presentation functionality.

NOTATION: Creation is tricky, but iBooks can handle PDFs pretty well.

COMMUNICATION: Messages works on every apple device, not just phones.

Apps for STORING AND SHARING

My number 1 pick: DROPBOX

7

Free 2GB Storage

Easy to Use

Compatible

Dropbox lets you bring all your photos, docs, and videos anywhere and share them easily. Access any file you save to your Dropbox from all your computers, iPhone, iPad, and the web. With Dropbox you’ll always have your important memories and work with you.

Features:• Access all your photos, docs, and videos from any device.

• 2 GB of space when you sign up — free!

• Share a link to even your biggest files — no more attachments!

• Add files to your “Favorites” for fast, offline viewing.

• Groups can share a folder and upload files to eachother.

Apps for Class Management

My SOON TO BE number 1 pick: Attendance2

9

Feature Rich

Fast

COMPLICATED

Attendance2 costs $4.99 and allows you to create a series of QR codes to take class attendance quickly and effectively.

Unfortunately, I think it is WAY too complicated for most users. Check it out and be prepared to watch a LOT of videos on how to get it to do what you want… but when you DO, it is VERY powerful!

Backup suggestions: Remind, TeacherKit, ClassDojo, Trello, Yapp, Group Text+, GroupMe,

DROPVOX is SO easy to use.

Sync it with Dropbox and you’ve got a simple audio recorder that automatically uploads your recordings to the cloud.

Downside: requires an internet connection and costs $1.99

Upside: with Guided Access enabled, you can set it in a room and have students run the show themselves!

• Scenario: I want to make part recordings or record part checks quickly and easily.

Apps for Recording

My number 1 pick: DROPVOX

MP3 file format

Easy to Use

Universal

Start recording. Double-tap to pause or single-tap to stop. Uploads to Dropbox automatically. It's that simple.

• Universal app, running equally well on iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad.• MP3 audio files sound great while saving bandwidth and Dropbox storage.• Accessible with VoiceOver for the visually impaired.

Imagine if your digital camera stopped and asked you to name each photo after you took it or popped up a file system for you to choose where to save it. This is how most voice recorders work on iOS; always getting in your way.

DropVox is streamlined to record and upload voice memos to Dropbox; there’s no need to name files or choose where to send them. If you need more control, DropVox might not be right for you.

Backup suggestions: QuickVoicePro, FourScore, Voice Memos, Garageband, Voice Record Pro

Apps for WHITEBOARD

No account is necessary.

Apps for Notating and Viewing Scores

First: Notating on a computer (i.e. Surface Pro 3) is going to be easier, more feature rich, and faster.

Second: Why even try?

How? It is easy to create PDFs of your scores that you can use in rehearsal.

Notating is TRICKY! Viewing is EASY!
