Whilst I have not ventured into the Advertising industry before, I am learning a lot, and I am learning quickly. It is a completely new side of writing I have never experienced before, and I am particularly enjoying the range of writing styles I am being exposed to, from strict, professionally written tender documents to creative, market-focussed web content. Murray Valley Standard Role: Freelance Journalist After completing work experience here last year, I was contacted by the editor to work as a freelance journalist for the month of May. My role at the Standard was journalism in its most basic form; researching, interviewing and writing up local stories as well as capturing relevant photographs. I enjoyed my time there and sadly had to reject a full-time job proposal in order to complete my studies at University. Adelaide Hills Magazine Role: Journalist (Internship) My role here was similar to that of the Standard, however being a magazine it was less structured writing and allowed my creative side to take over. Being a quarterly magazine, I was only required once a week, however I very much enjoyed my time here. Cosmopolitan Magazine (ACP Magazines) Role: Journalist (Work Experience) Work experience at Cosmopolitan was not quite as informative as it was at the Standard or Hills Magazine. Most work included the retyping of stories from international editions, transcribing interviews and researching fashion trends or products for articles. I still thoroughly enjoyed my time here however and appreciate it opening my eyes to an industry that I had not yet experienced. FasterLouder and Shout Out Music May 2011 - September 2012 Role: Music Journalist My role here was extremely simple: I chose an upcoming concert in Adelaide, attended it and sent my review to the SA editor within 48hrs! Simple and I absolutely loved it! Shout Out Music is unfortunately no longer in operation and FasterLouder has since reduced the number of Adelaide reviews it features, turning its focus to Sydney and Melbourne. While there are still a few shows on offer I have taken some time off due to conflicting weekend schedules (hockey). Work Experience blackbocks Advertising and Content

Role: Content Coordinator July 2013 - Present I was offered a full-time position at this company after a chance meeting with the CEO, Brenton Bock.

Below links to my portfolio with FasterLouder:

LUNA Magazine February 2012 - September 2012 Role: Music Journalist My role at LUNA was slightly different to that of FasterLouder and Shout Out Music – rather than reviewing live acts, I reported on the latest news in music each week. I enjoyed the relaxed nature of writing here as I feel my personality was able to shine through more so than in newspaper articles. I have currently taken a break from my role here due to increased university load, however I am still toying with the idea of returning in the new year. Here is a sample of what I have written for LUNA:

Role: Reader, Panel Operator, Editor As a volunteer at 1197am RPH Adelaide, I gained an understanding of the media field that I had not experienced before; live-to-air broadcasting. Whilst I did not write any of my own articles, the position required me to keep up to date with all aspects of the news – including social. Although I did enjoy my time at RPH, I came to realise quite quickly that I prefer to write my own articles, source my own stories, and basically have a more creative and hands-on approach to media.

Hobbies Type Don’t Think. Jan 2011 - Present

http://type-dont-think.blogspot.com After noticing the majority of my pay checks went towards music gigs, I decided it would be a good idea to put the shows to better use than just a night out. I created this blog to showcase my writing style and personality to music-focussed publications. Through my blog I gained employment with FasterLouder, Shout Out Music and LUNA Magazine and display my reviews on my site. I also administer basic site maintenance as needed. My site has received over 13,000 views to date.
