KAS Staffing Update 2016 to 2017

Primary School - New Teaching Appointments

Ms. Emily Arthur. Miss. Arthur will be joining the primary teaching staff after working in 2016 at Port Macquarie Adventist School. Mrs. Susan Fowler. Mrs. Fowler is an experienced, MA qualified primary teacher who is joining KAS from St Ives North Public School (Sydney). With the appointment of Miss. Arthur and Mrs. Fowler, staffing for your primary school is now complete for the 2017 school year. The additional teachers who have joined our team for 2017 bring a wide range of experience and skills that will add significantly to the depth of our learning program.

Primary School – Updated Leadership Structure for 2017

With Mrs. Baywood moving into the Deputy Principal (Primary) role from the start of 2017, KAS has also taken the opportunity to update the middle leadership positions in the primary school to better reflect the school’s desire to provide the highest level of service possible to our school community. In 2017, the primary school’s middle leadership Dean structure will be expanded from the current 2016 Lower Primary and Upper Primary Dean roles to include a new Middle Primary Dean position. As indicated, the intention of this updated leadership structure is intended to ensure that students and families receive very specific support dependent upon the area of the primary school a child is located in. The outline below briefly describes the 2017 KAS Primary School leadership structure: Mrs Baywood (Deputy Principal – Primary): School Executive Team member and responsible for the day-to-day operation of all aspects of the primary school program. Mrs. Nicole Sleeman (Lower Primary Dean): Primary Leadership Team member and responsible for the learning and wellbeing of students in Pre-Kindy to Year 2. Mrs. Katie Hodgekiss (Middle Primary Dean): Primary Leadership Team member and responsible for the learning and wellbeing of students in Years 3 and 4. Mrs. Kastle Mainey (Upper Primary Dean): Primary Leadership Team member and responsible for the learning and wellbeing of students in Years 5 and 6.

Secondary School - New Teaching Appointments

With minimal staff movement in the KAS Secondary School from 2016 to 2017, there remains only one final teaching position to be filled for 2017. That position is a PDHPE role, and KAS anticipates being able to confirm the appointment of an experienced teacher into that position prior to the end of the 2016 school year.

Secondary School – Updated Leadership Structure for 2017

As KAS moves intentionally towards establishing a project-based learning focus throughout our secondary school, we have taken the opportunity at the beginning of 2017 to also restructure the school’s middle leadership posi-tions. Shown below are the key changes from our current Stage Dean structure:

Years 7-9 Learning – Mrs. Sharon Ison, Dean of Learning (Teaching & Learning) Years 10-12 Learning – Mr. David Afele, Dean of Learning (Senior School) Years 7-8 Pastoral Care – Mrs. Melanie Phelps, Dean of Learning (Enrichment) Years 9-10 Pastoral Care – Mr. John Minett, Dean of Learning (Program Support) Years 11-12 Pastoral Care – Mr. David Afele, Dean of Learning (Senior School)

Years 7-12 Pastoral Care (Support)/Years 10-12 BOSTES Compliance – Mrs. Melissa Metcalfe, Dean of Learn-ing (Standards & Assessment)

As with the middle leadership restructure in our primary school, this reshaping of our secondary school program is intended to reflect the school’s desire to provide the highest level of service possible to our school community.

2016 NATA YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD

At the end of Term Three, a science fair project by Blair Hughes and Basil Domenicos, and another by Thomas Smith and Cayleb Kennewell, were entered into the 2016 NATA Young Scientist Awards. The theme for this year's award was 'science in our lives' and students who had undertaken an investigation within this theme were recognised. Blair and Basil both received certificates to acknowledge the effort they put into their project, while Thomas and Cayleb received a certificate in recognition of a sub-mission deserving special mention. Well done to both teams for the effort you put into your investigations. We look forward to entering more students' projects next year.

The whole staff at KAS wishes our KAS families a very

happy Christmas season and look forward to seeing you back at KAS on January 30 when classes begin.
