    Dr. Sunita Saxena

    Director, Institute of Pathology , ICMR

    Dr. Saxena , a world renown Pathologist and Director of

    ICMRs Institute of Pathology, is a shining star in the field

    of medical research. She has been associated with the

    ICMR for the past 31 years and has done path breaking

    work in the field of Cancer Biology. She is the winner of

    many prestigious awards including the Novartis Oration

    Award 2006 and K.C Basy Mullick Award for best

    research work on esophageal cancer. She also has to her

    credit numerous reputed grants and fellowships and has

    been involved in conducting DNB and PhD examinations

    since 1993. She is an enthusiastic medical writer who hasseveral publications in high impact international journals

    and is also a part of the Reviewers Panel of several

    journals including BMC Cancer, British Journal of Urology

    and World Journal of Surgical Oncology.

    Dr. Samiran Panda

    Scientist E, Epidemiology

    National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases (ICMR)

    Dr. Samiran Panda , is a trained tropical medicinespecialist and has served as a clinician scientist for more

    than 20 years. He has made a tremendous contribution in

    the field of public health intervention in diarrheal and HIV

    disease. He is a leader in the field of HIV prevention and

    care in South Asia and has a keen interest in epidemiology

    research , intervention design and evaluation of results.

    Dr. Sekhar ChakrabortiScientist G, Director-in- Charge

    National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Disease (ICMR)

    Dr. Chakraborti is a well known name in the world of medical

    research, whose outstanding work in the field of Virology andBacterial Genetics has won him international acclaim. He is the

    recipient of several national and international awards, including

    Special appreciation awards from NIAID and NIH, Prof SR Moitra

    Award from Physiological Society of India, Prof JB Chatterjee

    memorial gold medal from school of tropical medicine, Calcutta etc.

    He was also awarded one patent on Recombinant Vaccinia Viruses

    containing Human Retroviral genes with Dr. Bernard Moss at USA.

    Jolanda Lindenberg

    PhD, Staff Member (Vitality and ageing), Leyden

    Academy

    Jolanda Lindenberg studied cultural anthropology at the

    Radboud University Nijmegen where she graduated with a

    thesis on identity issues in Malaysia. After a brief outing inqualitative research in addiction care, she continued to study

    identity, group relations and social networks at the Max Planck

    Institute for Social Anthropology. There, she focused on the

    case of Belgium and completed her Ph.D. entitled 'negotiating

    language and identity'. As a staff member at the Leyden

    Academy on Vitality and Ageing she is mainly involved in the

    research and teaching activities. Her contribution to the

    current programme will concentrate on qualitative research

    methods and social scientific issues in the study of ageing.

    Dr. Arnab Gupta

    Director, Cancer Centre Welfare Home and Research Institute

    Dr. Gupta is a consultant surgical oncologist presently serving

    as the Director of Cancer Centre Welfare home and Research

    Institute. Apart from this Philanthropic Institute he is also

    associated with other prestigious institutions of the country

    including the Institute of Laparoscopic Surgery and ColumbiaAsia Hospital.

    Prof. M.A. Akbarsha

    Prof. M.A. Akbarsha is currently Director and Chair of Mahatma

    Gandhi-Doerenkamp Center (MGDC) for Alternatives to Use of

    Animals in Life Science Education, and Gandhi-Gruber-

    Doerenkamp Chair for Alternatives in Education and In Vitro

    Toxicology, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli. The center

    is fully supported by a grant from Doerenkamp-Zbinden

    Foundation, Switzerland.

    He spoke on 'Alternatives' to animals in anatomy, physiology &pharmacology laboratory courses in medical and biomedical

    programs

    PETA India

    He enlighted the students by carrying out a

    Brain Storming Session on the use of

    Alternatives to animals in medical research.

    One of the most gifted speakers he spoke on the latest trends

    and update on the undergraduate medical research in India.

    Prof of Medicine, Calcutta National Medical College

    Prof Bandopadhyay spoke on the ethical aspects in

    both clinical medicine and medical research.
