Chapter 1: The Moon

The placement of the Moon in your birth chart is very significant from a karmic perspective, as itindicates the accumulated karmic tendencies, both positive and negative, that you carry from yourpast incarnated experiences on earth.

While the Sun reveals your intended purposes and lessons for this present life cycle, the MOONrepresents what you have already done and developed, hence, what is instinctive and natural to you,and what you tend to do over and over again. Your childhood is also reflected in the Moon'splacement, as it is through those childhood circumstances that any unresolved past-life issues are re-stimulated. Your subconscious predisposition is indicated by the Moon's position. It is the psychicimprint of the past. The nodes of the Moon describe behavior patterns from the past, as well asdelineating a direction out of outworn or overdone behaviors and habits.

Moon in Cancer:

You instinctively respond to stress by retreating, withdrawing to protect yourself, or if at allpossible, by avoiding the trouble altogether. Exquisitely sensitive to the psychic and emotionalcurrents around you, and acutely alert to nuances and indications of potential threat, you are apt to"run for cover" when emotionally challenged.

A strong home base is vital to your sense of security, well-being, and ability to function smoothlyin other areas of your life. You have an intense aversion to disharmony in your home or familycircle, and separations between family members affect you profoundly, and permanently. (It hasbeen said that elephants, women, and anyone with the Moon in Cancer NEVER FORGETS). Forgood or ill, your relationship with your mother, and the emotional tone of your earliest years, is all-powerful in your life. Whether or not you recognize it consciously, your attachment to her is very,very strong. Often there are elements of mutual dependency or a blurred sense of boundariesbetween the two of you. Becoming a mother yourself may be a fierce longing in you, too, for you also have the capacity togive the support and tenderness you hunger for yourself. (Even some men with Moon in Cancerconfess a particularly poignant, wistful envy of women's ability to conceive, birth, and breast feedtheir children. When they are being really honest they also admit that they are incredibly jealous ofthe baby at times! If you are one of those men, you may take comfort in the fact that your maternalinstincts and ability to nurture your children are at least as good as any woman's and probably better,as this moon position indicates many female lifetimes and much past experience as mother andnurturer).

While parent/child relations are enormously important to you, it would be wise for you not todirect your entire emotional focus on your children or to rely solely on them to satisfy your greatyearning for emotional closeness and union. You have a tendency to smother.

Emotional dependency is a major concern of yours, and you are apt to struggle against regressinginto babyish behavior and being too needy. Your subconscious wish to be taken care of is deeplyingrained. At times you may attempt to completely deny these powerful feelings (and, once again, ifyou are a man society's dictates prohibit them), but this is apt to backfire on you. It is most desirablefor you to learn healthy ways to care for yourself and how to be close to people without clinging orsetting up your partner to be a parent - substitute. Until you establish your own inner center andyour own individual identity, worry, anxiety, and feelings of insecurity may be emotional habits ofyours. However, even at your finest, you will probably always be a rather moody creature, withfluctuating emotions and a constant ebb and flow of feeling, ups-and-downs. For you, emotionalbalance means knowing how to ride the waves, rather than aiming for some tranquil, unchangingstate.

In your incarnational past there was a great deal of upheaval and sudden change, possiblyprecipitated by political or social shifts. You were forced to choose between your home and all thatwas familiar, versus freedom or your ideals. You became very adaptable, living moment to moment,and there was very little of a solid, enduring home-base. You lived a somewhat unorthodox andunpredictable life which, while insecure and uncertain in many respects, did afford you a lot offreedom and wild adventures. (The pattern of frequent change, movement and upsets in the homemay or may not have been repeated early in your current life).

The carry over from that time into the present is a peculiar, emotional excitability and a highly,restless emotional state which at times can lead to extreme nervous strain and exhaustion. Along

with this is a craving for stimulation and a taste for the new, bizarre, even perverse. You may feelthat you were not meant for a "straight", conventional, tranquil existence, even if you long at timesfor the comforts such a lifestyle seems to provide. A desire for total emotional freedom and releasefrom past conditioning and inhibitions may compel you to make a nearly-total break from yourfamily or heritage, to the point of adopting a new name, religion, or lifestyle than the one you wereraised with. All of this may serve you well - to a point. Beware, however, of becoming an extremistand trying to rid yourself of everything in your past, "throwing the baby out with the bath water" soto speak, as this will cut you off from important aspects of yourself.

This urge for emotional freedom and excitement can also interfere with your establishment ofdeep, ongoing relationships. You fear being trapped in monotony and boredom if you commityourself to a permanent relationship. Any long-term relationship you form must have a lot ofpersonal space and room to change and to be spontaneous.

When out of balance you can become very ungrounded and are prone to emotional swings. Positively, you can be very inspired, musically or artistically or in other ways. When balanced youhave a great sense of rhythm, and your spontaneous intuitive insights and impulses are apt to be righton the mark.

Moon SemiSquare Saturn:

You are bringing into your current lifetime subconscious memories of harsh discipline, emotionaldeprivation, separations from family and other sources of security, which prevented you from beingproperly nourished and cared for. You may be responding to these experiences in different ways, forinstance, you may need tremendous amounts of reassurance and supportive love from the peoplearound you in order to feel that you can trust them. You may cling to family, traditions, routines, andstructures. You may have persistent underlying feelings of sadness or loss without recognizing theirsource. You may concentrate on your work and practical responsibilities (to neglect your emotionsand personal life). You may isolate yourself and feel alone, or refuse to be alone, becoming fearfuland anxious without others nearby. You may be needy and insecure about your worth, or hide all ofyour needs for love and affirmation behind a mask of cool indifference. On a physical level, you

Much of this is based on your subconscious belief that whatever occurred in the past was yourfault (even though you may have been innocent), and that love, security, and comfort are scarcecommodities which can be withdrawn from you at any time. In this lifetime you will be workingwith these patterns, learning to nurture and care for yourself. There may be periods of aloneness andsingularity which instead of being lonely and isolated can be healing, giving you time to do quiet,contemplative activities that nourish you.

These strict disciplines you were burdened with in the past need to be balanced with gentleness. You are much too hard on yourself, and you tend to see criticism and blame where none is intended. Above all, self-acceptance and cherishing yourself, regardless of your flaws or supposed past errors,is a major lesson in this current cycle.

In your incarnational past, you relied upon your rational, analytical, and intellectual skills. Yourgrowth direction now is to open more to the non-rational or transcendental aspect of life, and tofurther your understanding through compassion, empathy, and intuition.

Chapter 2: The Sun

The Sun in your birth chart represents the primary creative thrust for this lifetime, those qualitiesyou are to develop (or further develop) and express, and your current life focus. This may be inharmony with your instincts and your emotional habits, or along completely different lines. The Sunrepresents your conscious identity in this lifetime.

Sun in Virgo:

In this lifetime you are at a point in your soul development that requires you to do the work ofrefining and purifying your own nature. Like the ancient alchemists whose goal was to take barematerials and turn them into gold, your own process of self-transformation involves taking what iscrude or disordered in yourself and refining it. It is a cycle of separating the wheat from the chaff,requiring acute discrimination, rigorous self-analysis and self-criticism.

This impulse to perfect, to create order, and to focus on the flaws in order to improve and correctis the basis of much of your behavior. When you project it out into the world, it manifests asextreme fastidiousness, meticulous attention to detail, the ability to do very fine and exacting work,precision of thought and expression, and sometimes a peculiar fussiness. You can be the critic, therazor-sharp analyst, the master craftsman with a reputation for the greatest finesse and polish. Youquietly observe, dissect, and measure everything against your own inner standard of perfection.Everything must be tested and go through the refiner's fire in order to prove its efficacy, Rarely doyou swallow anything whole. Everything must be examined and judged, the acceptable partsingested and the unacceptable rejected. This is true on many levels, including the physical. You areapt to be extremely discriminating about your diet, concerned with proper nutrition and theavoidance of pollutants and impurities in your food or environment, and so on. Your physical bodyitself may be very sensitive to what you take in - more so than other people are. On an intellectuallevel, you are similarly discriminating, perhaps to the point of frank skepticism. Because of yourunderlying need to create order, you like to categorize and put things in neat little boxes, and youmay deny, avoid, invalidate, or refuse to take seriously something that does not fit in to your scheme.

Even in investigating the spiritual or mystical, you seek a system, an order. Ambiguity, multiplicity,chaos or disarray of any kind may vex you considerably. You can also be very critical anddemanding of other people, in a nagging, petty way. This is if you are projecting your need to refineand perfect onto the outside world. However, that is really a misuse of what is essentially an innerprocess, getting rid of the dross and refining your own character.

Turned inward, this purification process is likely to manifest, first of all, as high personalstandards of conduct and often much guilt and anxiety if you fail to do so. You will need to developsome humor and compassion for yourself, and a more merciful and tolerant attitude toward your ownfoibles and humanness to offset your innate propensity toward strict justice and judgment. Excessiveself-doubt and self-criticism, an obsessive concern with self-improvement, extreme humility basedon unrealistic perfectionism, fear of making mistakes or of being wrong, and an overly cautiousattitude toward life can be common pitfalls on your path. You can overcome these patterns byfinding an avenue of service to others to put your energies into, or a particular craft that you cancontinue to develop and perfect. The soul or character development that results from self-giving andself-discipline is an important part of what you are here to do.

Part of this ongoing inner process of purification can be achieved through devoted service toothers, and through doing a good job for its own sake, rather than for the personal glory. Very often,you may be the invisible man or woman, in the supportive, assistant role, the power behind thethrone, the worker bee rather than the queen. You may be quite comfortable being anonymous, for itis the quality of your work that really concerns you. You are happiest when you are being useful andproductive, fulfilling a necessary function, being helpful in a tangible, concrete way.

Chapter 3: Rising Sign

The point that was on the eastern horizon at the moment of your birth is called theASCENDANT, or rising sign. While the Sun describes your conscious direction and current lifefocus, and the Moon your subconscious predisposition and past, the Ascendant indicates a way ofbeing that transcends and embraces past, present, and future. It describes the way you engage andmerge with the outer world and how you bring through into life the energies depicted by the Sun, theMoon, and the rest of your birth chart. Everything is filtered through the Ascendant from an esotericpoint of view. It indicates your soul's function and thus a key part of your destiny.

You project yourself into the world spontaneously, directly, honestly, fearlessly, audaciously,heroically. You carry the qualities of boldness, courage, and leadership, and your function is toblaze new pathways, to lead, to initiate and to do.

Aries Rising and Mars in Leo:

Your ruling planet, Mars, is in the fiery, dramatic, rather narcissistic sign of Leo, as well. Thisincreases your competitive drive, your need for recognition, and your will to lead. However, livingfor personal glory and aggrandizement alone, dominating or considering others to be less real orimportant than yourself, or simply burning out because you believe yourself to be invincible aredefinitely indicated. Dreams of power and glory inflame you, but unless you temper them withrealism and compassion, you may go down in flames. If you use your passion to work a higher will,however, your life will be charged with light and meaning.

Chapter 4: Saturn, Your Achilles Heel

Karmically considered, the placement of Saturn in your birth chart indicates where your energeticblockages, weaknesses and fears lie, and the areas of your life where the most concentrated effortand discipline will be required to master and overcome them. Yet it also points to the aspects of lifewhich can become your greatest strength if you are willing to face your fears and difficultieshonestly, and work with them patiently.

Security and material well-being is apt to be inordinately important to you, and many of yourstruggles in life revolve around this. Regardless of what you actually possess, it may never seemlike "enough" for you to feel secure. You have an underlying fear of poverty, lack, or that "it couldall be taken away from me at anytime". Thus, you may become very territorial, frugal or acquisitive,not out of selfishness so much as out of fear. You yearn for lasting security, something you cancount on at all times, and you will work hard to achieve that in some area of your life. Whenallowed to dominate your life choices, however, this deep need for security and a firm foundation inyour life can inhibit you from taking any risks. Since change and unpredictability are in the verynature of life, the kind of insurance you seek really is not available! When does stability becomestifling? When does a secure fortress become a self-imposed prison? Even if you are open andreasonable in many respects, there is at least one area of your life in which you are likely to bemindlessly stubborn, inflexible and unable to "flow".

In this lifetime you are defining your values. Since there is really nothing in this world thatcannot be taken away, lost or destroyed, one of your most crucial lessons may be to "store up yourtreasure in heaven, where moths do not corrupt...".

On the other side of the coin you may have a basic mistrust of your body and of physical life ingeneral. Placing too much or too little value on the body and the material side of life is indicated.

Saturn in 1st house:

You tend to get tied up in knots when it comes to presenting yourself to the world, and it isfrequently difficult for you to express yourself (the person you feel yourself to be inside) without agreat deal of editing, censoring, or "polishing the goods". As a result you may seem rather stiff andself-controlled but even if you do not, even if you seem quite spontaneous and open, you are apt tofeel a definite barrier between yourself and the outside world. In many ways you take yourself tooseriously, particularly in your concern about how you come across, what impression you are makingand how you impact others. Your orientation to life in general is apt to be serious, possibly too

much so. You are very aware of your own flaws, and also of your duties and responsibilities. All ofthis can add up to a certain heaviness which you project onto life at times. The above description ofyour particular areas of difficulty or struggle are very much on the surface for you, others see thembecause you identify strongly with those very characteristics.

Overcoming a lack of confidence, fear of expressing or asserting yourself, a harsh or discouragingearly life, and/or a deep distrust of the "masculine" side of life (including your own forcefulness) ispart of your karmic package in this lifetime. You will struggle against oppression, from a parent,prevailing circumstances and attitudes in your environment, or your own inhibitions and fears, andmay receive very little external support. Difficulties and frustration in sexual or creative expression,with men, with anger and competition, or with authority is likely. If you do not allow yourself tobecome resentful and bitter, you can become strong and self reliant through patience, self-discipline,persistence, hard work and building your dreams one small step at a time. Healing your woundedmale side will be an important key to your eventual fulfillment.

Saturn Sesquiquadrate Uranus:

You carry tremendous inner tension which you will have to work to resolve and harmonize inorder to have any peace in your life or any ongoing success in either your personal relationships oryour life ambitions. You have what some would call a "disobedient spirit": habitual and chronicirritability and rebelliousness, a refusal to accept or cooperate with any kind of outward authority,and perhaps most troublesome of all, a tendency to blame others(the government, the system, yourparents, your ex-) for your discontent. Because you tend to resent any kind of restrictions orlimitations (including those imposed simply by living a "normal" orderly existence), you mayperiodically revolt, and any sort of stability, security, or seniority you may have acquired is badlydamaged or destroyed. Or, your inner stress may be expressed in physical symptoms such asgrinding your teeth, TMJ, headaches, or imbalances caused by disrupted rhythms. Your karmicpattern is to operate out of an extreme, polarized, all-or-nothing position. You may believe you musteither conform and be an automaton or totally disregard convention, tradition, and the old order. On

the other hand, you may identify entirely with the established orthodoxy and feel you must repressany impulses toward change or unconventionality, that it is somehow dangerous to experiment ordeviate in any way. You may see-saw between these two extremes. Transitions tend to be especiallydifficult for you. You do not want to let go AND you want to sever your ties entirely. To beginharmonizing these patterns and healing your life, decide first of all to stop blaming others or the waythe world is for your discomfort. Make friends with "the enemy", those parts of life you have beenpolarized against. On a physical level, regular, rhythmic exercise such as bicycling or swimming,and receiving massage therapy to release emotional and muscular tension can be helpful.

Chapter 5: The Hard Aspects

The following is a description of your MAJOR LIFE CHALLENGES, both in terms of energiesyou are to learn to develop and express in a positive way, and those which are the result of strugglesand unresolved karmic issues which you have brought into this life.

Mercury Conjunct Pluto:

You have a penetrating, incisive mind which cuts through surface appearances to the deeper,underlying heart-of-the-matter. Your perceptions and profound insights border at times on beingtruly uncanny, for you have the gift of being able to perceive the hidden content, the concealed,disguised, or suppressed aspects of a person, situation, or subject. On a concrete level, this quality ofmind impels you to be the researcher or investigator, searching out the unknown, uncovering amystery. Even in casual social interaction you automatically perceive others' subconsciousintentions and motives. You are very astute psychologically. Hence, your presence can besomewhat threatening to those who have secrets or who have much invested in the superficial andprefer not to go any deeper.

This capacity carries with it, however, challenges and pitfalls. You may find yourself falling intoa habit of mind that is suspicious, paranoid, cynical, or preoccupied with the dark underside of life,and this may skew your entire outlook. (You may also use your considerable insight, persuasiveness,and mental power to try to manipulate others' thoughts and actions which would inevitably bring

negative karmic results.) Verbally you can be quite cutting and hurtful. Realize that simplyspeaking "the truth" without mercy or sensitivity to how your words are received, can do more harmthan good.

At its worst this aspect would be expressed in a Machiavellian type of mind, utilizing your keenperception to manipulate and dominate others.

Mars Square Neptune:

Your masculine, yang, assertive energies combine (somewhat tensely and uneasily) with yoururge for transcendence, grandeur, and a life beyond the every day or material. This could beexpressed through you in various ways. At best you are an inspired creative genius with the driveand need to physically manifest your dreams and visions. (This may, nevertheless, be hard on thosearound you or the part of you that wants a normal, orderly existence, as you tend to become fanaticaland to ignore the more mundane stuff).

You may have a great deal of fantasy about and infatuation with masculinity, male power, whichcan lead to feelings of personal inadequacy, sexual confusion, an overidentification with machostrengths and values, muscles, competition, or simply an unclear relationship with men. You mayidealize the man (father, husband, son) and fail to perceive them accurately. You tend to go toextremes, either denying all male attributes, functions or values, or secretly worshipping them.

You may also have great aspirations and far reaching ambitions which may or may not bepractically realizable. However, for you, to live is to dream. Strive for complete honesty, withyourself as well as others, because the downside of this pattern is a tendency to evade or deceive orsimply ignore what is. Also avoid the tendency to use either your physical strength or your sexualpower and charisma in an exaggerated way. Misdirection of these energies can weaken your vitalityconsiderably.

Ultimately you may be led to devote your strength and all your actions to something thattranscends personal gratification and personal desire, becoming a channel for a higher power to workthrough.

Chapter 6: Soft Aspects

The following is a description of your GIFTS and STRENGTHS which can help you work withyour major life challenges. These are abilities and qualities of heart, mind, and soul which are quitenatural to you. You probably take them for granted. Because these represent the lines of leastresistance for you, you may rely too much upon them at times; hence, there are some cautionssuggested. Still, these are the areas where good flows into your life and/or where you haveconsiderable inner resources.

Sun Sextile Jupiter:

Your life is blessed in numerous ways because you have developed intuitive vision (the ability toenvision greater possibilities, to "see" potentials and future developments) and faith (in yourself, inthe Universe's essential beneficence and abundance, and/or in a higher power that guides andprotects you). Because you feel and know your connection with the whole, God, the Tao (orwhatever you wish to call it), your actions and intentions are more likely to be in harmony with thelarger reality and hence successful. What may appear to be your prodigious good "luck" is actuallyan inner alignment with this larger reality which enables you to take risks and trust, and to begenerous knowing you have an inner source of support. You make choices and decisions not basedsolely on self interest. Innately optimistic, you tend to radiate and project positive expectations intothe world, thereby actually creating or drawing them unto yourself. Your conscious mind links easily and readily to other dimensions. This is somethingyou probably take for granted and it may happen without any conscious effort or intent on your part. You are like a "cosmic radio" and you may pick up certain vibrations and the feelings of otherswithout realizing you are doing so. You also have a sensitive nervous system which respondsquickly to stimuli, so you require a harmonious atmosphere in order to function at your best.

Your psychic and/or musical, artistic, and poetic sensibilities are pronounced due to priordevelopment in these arenas.

Saturn Trine Pluto:

Your latent but well developed capacity to endure hardship, deprivation, solitude, and longperiods of difficult, painstaking work is one of your strengths, stemming from lifetimes ofrenunciation and adhering to severe disciplines.
