Save the Date - Tuesday, March 13 AAOCC is planning a Town Hall Meeting! Please save time on the evening of Tuesday, March 13 for this event. More information will be coming from AAOCC. The tentative topic around the issue of student safety at school.
Counseling Update As you know, our long time counselor, Mr. Allan Loeb, is now in a new position with Ann Arbor Virtual Academy. Families may still have contact with Mr. Loeb since he has been assigned Ann Arbor Open School as one of the schools under his purview. If you have any questions about online class options, please feel free to contact Mr. Loeb at [email protected].
We are pleased to introduce our new .5 counselor for grades 6, 7, 8, Ms. Kelly Maveal. After only a few days in the building, Kelly has already met with the 7th and 8th graders in their advisory classes, is helping students make decisions about high school attendance, and has had many students visit her in her office for advice or just to say hello. We are so happy to welcome Kelly to the Ann Arbor Open Community! Please see the introduction from

FUNDRAISINGCORNERHappy New Year and welcome back to school!
Thank you to everyone who took part and supported the school’s famous Multicultural Fair. As always it was an energetic affair that was fascinating and which took much less than 80 days to get around the world.
Last Week! Already we had a fabulous fundraiser to start off the new year! Thank you to all who joined us at Karaoke Night - Jan 10th, 2018 6-8:15pm! You helped fundraise for the 7th/8th grade classes. All ages welcome. K-6 sang from 6-7pm Food was available from 5:45-7:30pm, the 7/8th graders took the stage from 7:00-8:15pm. No doubt the singing was all better than the originals! For more information contact Abbey Woodman, [email protected] or Rebecca Richardson, [email protected].
Upcoming! Restaurant Night - Jan 23rd 4-8pm! Come eat at Chipotle and mention Ann Arbor Open so proceeds will go to the school. Located at 3354 East Washtenaw Ave, Ste A. This fundraiser helps support the General AAOCC fund so that A2O can continue with exciting projects, programs and field trips. For further information contact Melissa Lloyd, [email protected].
Around the corner! Big News! A singing showcase will be occurring in February. Students will show off their musical talents and public performance abilities. This is always a wonderful event that can move you to tears with pride and enjoyment. Prepare yourself for the show coming in February. More details to follow soon. We need a new team!
The Ann Arbor Open Ice Cream Social Committee needs you!
Our committee has been going strong for what seems like generations. Our kids are growing older, and all of us will graduate within a year. This year is our best opportunity for an easy
transition. We’re hoping to attract the attention of a small group of interested, willing parents who can apprentice with us this spring and take over next year’s event. We can do this with a
motley crew or a group of friends who want to make it a mission.
Tasks, as we’ve organized them, include: boss of inflatables, games, and small plastic prizes
ticket master, water boy (or girl), signage consultant,
pizza guru, champion of the ice cream,
cake walk specialist, and middle manager of other food.
Please contact Angie Watson at [email protected] if you have questions or would like to sign up to help out.
Fieldtrip & Enrichment Contributions Stats

Ann Arbor Open Coordinating Council
Our school’s PTSO
_____________________________________________________________________________
A new school year brings another exciting schedule of activities for Ann Arbor Open
students. From the kindergarteners taking their first field trip to the Ann Arbor Farmers
Market to the middle school students performing local community service projects such
as serving meals at local food banks, these enriching programs are an important part of
the AA Open’s curriculum at every grade level. Kids, teachers and parents all look
forward to these memorable experiences that form an integral part of the Open
education.
Each year, the Ann Arbor Open Coordinating Council (AAOCC) -our school’s
parent-teacher-student organization- helps fund these programs. To this end, we ask
each family to make a tax-deductible contribution in accordance with the requested
amounts listed in the table on the back of this page.
Please return this form and contributions to school with other important
paperwork as soon as possible. New this year, is the inclusion of the yearbook
cost to the field trip and enrichment contribution!
The yearbook will be given to every child on the last day of school.
We ask that each family contribute what they can afford. If your family is able to give
more than the requested amount, please consider doing so, as it will benefit other Ann
Arbor Open families. Because Ann Arbor Open seeks to promote a fair and inclusive
environment, every child will get to go on every outing their class takes, and receive a
yearbook, regardless of their family’s contribution. Once you return the contribution
form, you will not receive further direct solicitations from the AAOCC.
If you cannot contribute this year, we still need your form to gauge supplementary fundraising needs, so please return the completed form found on the back of this page.
If you have questions, please contact Michela Arnaboldi, Contributions Coordinator,
