Denise Toohey - Principal
Welcome to all our existing and new families. The staff and I trust that you had a safe and relaxing holiday. 2019 is full of exciting opportunities for our students, community and staff. All students have had a smooth transition to their new classes and are demonstrating the values of our Positive Behaviour for Learning philosophy; RHR – Respectful, Honest and Responsible learners. Leadership Assembly Our Leaders Induction Assembly saw our 2019 student leadership team presented with their badges. This is a very memorable moment for the students at NPS as their parents are invited onto
the stage to pin the much treasured leadership badge onto their student’s shirts. Pride flows from student to parent and vice versa. Congratulations to all our school leaders, please view the photos in this Kalori to share in this joyful moment. Parent Information Sessions Thank you to those families who attended our Parent Information Sessions on Wednesday afternoon. If you were unable to attend and would like a copy of the presentation that was shared with your parent peers please contact your stage leader or the office and we will gladly email the information to you. Kindergarten 2019 To our new Kindergarten students and families, welcome to Narromine Public School! Our newest students are quickly settling into the school routines and have been happily making friendships across our school. Their little faces are beaming with the excitement of starting school and their big eyes are taking in all the learning experiences that are being shared. We are so grateful and blessed to have you as the newest members of our NPS family. Staff Development The staff participated in a Development Day on Tuesday 29 January. We had the pleasure of hosting Ralph Pirozzo who engaged the staff in a variety of teaching moments and activities based around STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and the importance of differentiation of learning for quality learning. Staff are refreshed, energised and delighted to be back at school continuing the outstanding learning tradition of Narromine Public School. New appointments
Emma Briggs – 2N Hello! My name is Emma Briggs and I am teaching 2N. I am 23 years old and originally from Sydney. I moved to Narromine at the start of the school year. I graduated from Macquarie University last year and I am currently completing my Masters in Special Needs Education. I love sport and being active, I played first grade Women’s AFL with the North Shore Bombers in Sydney. I am very excited to be living in Narromine as I love the outdoors, going for bushwalks, fishing and skiing down at the river. Tracey Jones – 5/6TJ
Hi I’m Tracey Jones and I’m team teaching with Mrs Turnbull on 5/6TJ. I’m originally from Lismore on the North Coast. I’ve been teaching for 25 years and have taught in both primary and high schools. I taught for many years at Tullamore Central School as our family has a farming property in the area. I’m looking forward to joining the supportive and friendly Narromine Public School’s community.

The NPS staff have recently undertaken professional learning with
Ralph Pirozzo on creating the most engaging learning experiences
and planning opportunities for our students. Teachers enhanced
their knowledge about engaging and challenging students with
exciting Science/Technology/Engineering/Art/Maths (STEAM)
lessons. Throughout the day, teachers participated in creating and
developing units with a STEAM focus to use within our
classrooms. Teachers also developed their understanding and
expertise in supporting students with 36 thinking tools to improve
our students’ creative and critical thinking skills. A highlight of the
day was when teachers and SASS staff engaged in using all the
exciting technology that was available. We learnt about 3D
glasses, 3D pens, Ozobot, Beetbot, Bluebot, Makey Makey,
Microbit, Sphero, Thymio, Wonder Dash, Edison, Lego
Mindstorms, mBot, drones, coding and looping. Ralph was a
fantastic presenter who inspired us all.

Family Literacy Challenge
Welcome to our Family Literacy Challenges. You will need to get a family team together to complete the challenges.
There will be a box in the front office to submit your entries. To collect the prize you need to make sure you have
one name of a family member per entry. For example: The Jones Family- Andrew Jones 4W.
To be in the running for a $10 canteen voucher make sure you get your entry in the bright pink box in the foyer at
the office. You have to be in it to win it!!
Week 2 Adjectives. Adjectives are words that tell us more about a noun eg: The big brown dog. Big and brown are
both adjectives. List as many adjectives as you can that describe your home. Look around your home for objects as
inspiration.
PBL News
Welcome back to school for 2019. This term is shaping up to be very productive. All classes have
been very settled with students engaging in their learning.
Our aim at Narromine Public School is to establish and practise consistent whole-school
responsibility for following instructions using common language and expectations. Students are
expected to respond immediately when given an instruction. This is to ensure learning is not
being disrupted and all students are safe. Also, we will be focusing on showing respect by
speaking nicely. Students will be expected to use appropriate tone when interacting with others
as well as making an effort to be nice to people.
Students will be required to achieve 241 points for RED level and 253 for BLUE.
Thank you to the students for a positive start to the year. Well done!

Sport
Friday School Sport
Students in Year 3-6 are expected to wear their sports uniform
every Friday. For Term 1 on Fridays Year 3-6 students will be going
to the pool for sport. NPS values the impact participation in sport
has on student learning. NPS has budgeted to support this activity
and therefore, pool entry will be covered by the school. Students
need to bring their swimmers, towel, sunscreen and hat. It is
expected that students participate every week as sport is a
compulsory component of the curriculum. If for some reason one
week they are unable to participate please send a note to their
classroom teacher explaining why they cannot participate.
NPS 2019 Swimming Carnival
The school swimming carnival will be held this FRIDAY 8 February
and students nominated for their events this week. All students are
to come to school first and then walk to the pool in their house
groups. Students are encouraged to come dressed in their sporting
house colours. All students in Years 3-6 will attend the swimming
carnival as well as participating Year 2 students that are turning 8
years old this year. Year 2 students turning 8 this year that are not
strong swimmers will not be eligible to race. These students will
stay at school and attend class as per normal. It is important that
parents are aware that for students to enter racing events at the
carnival they must have strong swimmer ticked on their swimming
note and they must be in that group for sport as well. If your child is
in Years 3-6 and not a strong swimmer, they will be able to
participate in novelty events in the pool that will be held
throughout the day. Students are to bring swimmers, towel, hat,
sunscreen, plenty of water and either a packed lunch or money for
the canteen. The Gobondery/NARRAF swimming carnival will be
held on Friday 22nd February at Narromine and the Western
carnival will be on Thursday 14 March.

Summer Reading Challenge
On Thursday, 31 January, we had
the Reading Challenge reward
which is a Nerf Challenge in the
hall. The nerf darts were flying
everywhere and everyone was
running and having fun. There
were six groups of five and we had
ten minutes each to play against
the other team. We had boys and
girls who picked up the darts and
put them in the boxes for the
teams. We had the battle in the
dark and we had to wear safety
goggles in case we got hit in the
eyes. There were obstacles to hide
behind during the battle. Everyone
got hit by a dart including Mrs
Walsh. Everyone was so sweaty
and tired after it. It was one of the
best rewards so far. - Josh Richards
and Murray Devlin
