Eyeglass Cleaning Jan. 19, 2013 By Keith Katsuda

On Saturday, January 19, 2013, 13 Hawaii Kai Lions joined with 19 Kaiser High School Leo members, 2 exchange students from Beijing and their advisor, Gordon Chun to sort, clean, dry and pack 1,640 pairs of usable eyeglasses. Wearing plastic gloves, members and Leos removed eyeglass cases and discarded broken items. They also recovered eight hearing aids. The usable glasses were washed and dried before being packed in boxes. The cases of glasses were taken by members who volunteered to temporarily hold the boxes until the district finds a storage site. These members are Tommy Chun, Rick Yee, Walter Kuroiwa, and

Jeannie Alices. The rest of the glasses and the supplies were returned to Toshi Nishioka using Mino Takaesu’s truck. The Hawaii Kai Lion members participating in the project were Jeannie Alices, Delwin Ching, Cynthia Chun, Tommy Chun, Bob Kane, Keith Katsuda, Walter Kuroiwa, Ralph Nakamura, Kazuaki Nakano, Clara Ozaki, Sindi Sindiong, Mino Takaesu and Rick Yee. Mino helped transport the glasses and supplies. After the project, we enjoyed salad, pizza and drinks. Thanks to all for another successful project!
