The &klevering headquarters are located in a former lamp factory, on the outskirts of Amsterdam, a unique space measuring 1000 m2. This is the place where all of the various disciplines involved in the business come together: purchasing, sales, design, bookkeeping, storage and distribution. Each day, our enthusiastic employees and management arrive at work by bicycle, in true Amsterdam style. (&klevering has 20 employees.)

Our wholesale business has experienced tremendous growth in the last few years, and our warehouse was bursting at the seams. These days, a third-party handles all of our outgoing orders, a company that is specialized in order picking and processing. The packages and pallets destined for our national and international customers are taken care of here, quickly and efficiently.

Twice a year, our design team goes to Hong Kong and Guangzhou in China, where it collaborates with Chinese companies to develop products that it has already designed. Thousands of Chinese companies, employing huge numbers of workers, exhibit at the enormous “Canton Fair” trade show. The team’s task is to sift through this incredible offering of products, from dishwashing brushes to ironing boards, from the tackiest tigerprint vases to gorgeous Chinese earthenware, all just to find the right producers for the &klevering products.

we create contemporary gifts

In cooperation with several museums including the Rijksmuseum (home to Rembrandt’s famous masterpiece, “The Nightwatch”), &klevering designs and develops gifts that are sold in the museum shop. We create contemporary gifts that are inspired by centuries-old paintings, tableware and objets d’art.Together with several museums, &klevering works on special design projects, but the standard product range is also very popular with customers at various museum shops both in the Netherlands and abroad.

In addition to our wholesale business, &klevering also has two stores in Amsterdam and a webshop. &klevering’s Centraal store is located at Haarlemmerstraat 8, near Amsterdam’s Central Station, just outside of the historic canal belt area. Our Zuid store is located at Jacob Obrechtstraat 19, in the upscale, quiet Zuid (“South”) section of the city, near the Concertgebouw symphony hall.

Over the years, the stores have acquired a unique position, and are known as the gift shops to shop at in Amsterdam.Not only do the stores sell our own private label, but also well-known brands such as Normann Copenhagen, La Marelle, Muuto, ferm LIVING, Taj and Iittala.Consumers in the Netherlands and abroad can shop to their heart’s content in ourbeautiful, new and improved webshop www.klevering.nl, where they can purchase unique products online.

‘As a little girl, i already knew that i wanted to become an “inventor of beautiful things”. i was constantly decorating, drawing, cutting paper and making music,‘ recalls designer and stylist jurianne matter. there was a mo-ment that jurianne and her sons decided to draw, sign and fold paper boats. the begin-ning of a successful business. paper angels followed, lanterns, the ‘blom’ paper flowers and for this season jurianne created circles – ornaments. All products are made in the netherlands and are eco-friendly.

after seeing (and being fascinated by) the beautiful, handmade earthenware objects anouk produces in her studio in the village of spijkerboor, in the province of north holland, &klevering asked anouk to create this line.

the road leading to anouk’s property runs over a typical dutch dike along a canal. an old farmhouse, her home stands proud in the middle of this polder landscape, surrounded by mooing cows. the welcome greeting from anouk’s dogs, the presence of sheep and chickens...you feel immediately at home. hospitality is the key word at this unique spot.the boeuf bourguignon bubbles away on the stove, the long table has been beautifully set, and the wine is uncorked. her husband leo,

the art of pottery-makIng Is a complete package: desIgnIng, paIntIng, creatIng and experImentIngthe “country gentleman”, has just returned

from the hunt. leo: “in this area, we hunt geese, hare, pheasant, pigeon and fox. hunt-ing is a passion, but preparing and partaking of the spoils is pure pleasure!”

anouk: “these are the things that inspire me, the hunt, the food, the overwhelming natural beauty, the cozy table, and all of this combined with wonderful moments shared with my family.” (anouk, 43, lives with her husband leo, 48, and her three beautiful, hazel-eyed daughters: Pippilotti, 10, riva, 9, and lieve, 8).

in her studio, anouk shows us tulip vases, com-memorative birth plates, complete sets of table-ware, and decorative tile murals. all of them handmade, and each and every one unique. the art of pottery-making is a complete pack-age: designing, painting, creating and experi-menting. in a relatively short period of time, anouk has gained notoriety as an artist skilled in this traditional applied art. all of her clients have one thing in common: they are people with good taste.

anouk: “i was used to creating one-of-a-kind pieces for unique people. these days, i love the fact that i am able to reach so many people with my designs for &klevering. and, of course, i enjoy the success. it’s great to be able to see my designs on display in stores in major cities such as london and Paris. now that is a great feeling!”

Dutch cuisine was originally very simple: one-pot meals

cookeD on a kerosene stove. Frugality was the norm –

just picture van gogh’s “the potato eaters”, anD you’ll

have the right iDea. Don’t be FooleD – simplicity can

taste great! try this traDitional Dutch one-pot Dish:

curly kale stamppot’ (with masheD potatoes). be sure to

serve plenty oF white wine with this Dish!

IngredIents:

1.5 kg Floury potatoes

500 g choppeD curly kale

1 Fresh smokeD sausage

100 g cubeD bacon

50 g butter or Duck Fat

2 cloves garlic

200 ml milk

PreParatIon:

peel anD place the potatoes in a pot, just covereD with

water. place the kale on top oF this, aDD a pinch oF

salt, anD lay the sausage on top. bring to a boil anD

allow to simmer For 20 minutes. at the same time, Fry

the bacon in the butter or Duck Fat until crunchy,

anD aDD the garlic. heat the milk to just unDer the

boiling point. Drain the potatoes anD kale, anD mash

them with the milk. FolD in the bacon anD Fat, aDDing

Freshly grounD black pepper. serve with pickles anD

Dutch mustarD.
