Organizations

• Office of Student Access and Success:– provide prospective and current students of the College

with value chain opportunities and services that will enhance their academic experiences and increase their rate of success in the school and their future careers.

• Center for Diversity in Engineering and Computing:– to increase the flow of traditionally underrepresented

ethnic/gender groups, and students with disabilities into the engineering, mathematics and science pipeline.

Engaging Latino Communities for Education (ENLACE)

• Mission– Strengthen the educational pipeline and increase opportunities for Latinos to enter and

complete college

• Targeted population:– 250 children during academic year– 150 children during summer– Over 90% Hispanics

• Provides academic support and enrichment opportunities to elementary school children: – Afterschool and Summer Programs

• reading instruction• Technology Training• Physical fitness• Critical Thinking• Mentorship and Role models

– University students work as tutors and teacher– Summer Academy is held on campus

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP)

• Goal: Increase graduation rates and the number of minority students entering post-secondary learning institutions.– Individual Student Tutoring– Saturday Academy– Summer Academies– Teacher Professional Development– Mentoring– Parental Involvement workshops– Going-to-College workshops– Technology Training and Assistance– Technology Infusion Program– Field Trips/College Visits

• 2010 theme “Water, Water everywhere” • Two 90 minutes parts– multiple choice questions– open ended questions

The Engineering Expo is an exciting and dynamic educational experience to engage and expose our local schools and colleges to the wonders of science and engineering. By doing so it is our hope to stimulate interest in mathematics, science and technology for future generations
