Justin Adams
Justin has spent 19 years championing innovation and sustainability within the energy and natural resource industries; building bridges between multinationals, the investment community and entrepreneurs, both shaping and implementing solutions. Justin is now pioneering integrated approaches to land use combining opportunities for the agriculture, energy and carbon sectors. He is also chairman of two exciting growth companies focused on sustainable agriculture and bioenergy. Justin was, until the end March, head of BP’s Emerging Business & Ventures unit with a team of 50 around the world. In this role, he led BP Ventures, BP’s corporate venture team that he established in 2006. The team has more than $150m invested in 29 companies and funds. Justin also built an integrated approach to carbon management for the core oil and gas businesses inside BP under the banner of BP Carbon Solutions. The team is responsible for developing strategic carbon technologies including CO2 Capture & Storage, CO2 conversion and novel efficiency technologies; they have also pioneered an emerging activity in forestry, terrestrial carbon and sustainable land use. Prior to joining BP in 2003, Justin led the Advanced Energy Systems practice for Arthur D. Little in Europe serving multiple large corporates and governments with techno-‐economic consulting. He was also the Founder and CEO of High Power Lithium, a Swiss advanced battery business working with Toyota, and Co-‐Founder and Business Development Director for Transdek a sustainable transport technology company in the UK.
