2016 Officers

Llano County Judge Mary Cunningham installed the 2016 SRW officers at our annual Christmas party held at the Escondido Golf & Lake Club. From left: Treasurer Beverly Graham, President Mary Lou Kromer, Judge Cunningham, Secretary Tari Pilgreen, 2nd Vice President of Membership Nancy Cobb and 1st Vice President of Programs Gennie Ward.

Mary Lou’s Message

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE From Senator John Cornyn: Sen. Cornyn announced his opposition Jan. 5 to President Obama’s announcement that he will circumvent Congress and take executive action to restrict the constitutional rights of American people by unilaterally imposing a gun control agenda. Cornyn introduced The Mental Health and Safe Communities Act that “would strengthen the existing background check system without expanding it and improve treatment, preventative screening and crisis response for individuals with mental illness. From Congressman Mike Conaway: On Dec. 3, the House of Representatives passed HR 8, The North American Energy Security and Infrastructure Act by a vote of 249-174. Included in this bill was an amendment Congressman Conaway sponsored with several colleagues to lift the antiquated ban on crude oil exports. The Senate also approved the measure Dec. 18.

From Congressman Roger Williams: On Dec. 8, Congressman Williams voted for the Visa Waiver Program Improvement Act that would prohibit certain individuals who have recently visited Syria, Iraq, Iran or Sudan from entering the United States without a visa. The Senate also approved the measure Dec. 18.

Sweet 16. That’s my prediction for the New Year 2016!

Won’t it be “sweet” when we elect the next Republican President of the United States?

Won’t it be “sweet” when we retain a majority in the House and the Senate?

Too bad I don’t have a magic wand to make this all happen. Instead, we are all going to have to pitch in and do our part to ensure these sweet victories in 2016.

I am excited about the number of news members who have joined

2

Star in the past couple of months, and am hopeful that we will continue to welcome additional “newbies” in 2016. Winning starts at the local level and we are off to a good start.

I challenge each of us to bring 5 new members to Star in the next few months. Start with inviting your family and friends to our Jan. 19 meeting. And on Feb. 16 we will have candidates from the contested primary races in Llano and Burnet Counties for members and guests to meet informally and discuss issues of interest to them.

Once the primary elections are over, we all need to get behind our Republican candidates to ensure their election in November.

Llano and Burnet Counties are Republican strong holds, but we cannot take anything for granted. And while our focus typically is local, we also need to help on a state and national level.

SRW will work to keep you informed about opportunities to help with a variety of campaigns. We encourage you to volunteer in whatever way you can. So stay tuned and get ready for a fun and successful campaign season!

It’s a Must Read!

Join our Red Shoe Book Club in Reviewing

“The Clinton’s War on Women”

1

Star Republican Women’s Red Shoe Book Club is ready to gear up with the new year and a fascinating new book The Clinton’s War on Women, written by Roger Stone & Robert Morrow. Based on their research, the two authors show how Bill and Hillary left a trail of assault accusations, intimidation, and cover-ups against women and children.

“We encourage our members to read the book and join us for an informal review of the book in March. The exact date and time will be announced soon,” said Kathy Hussey, chairman of SRW’s Literacy Committee.

The Clintons’ “systematically abuse women and others – sexually, physically, and psychologically – in their scramble for power and wealth,” says the publisher’s press release.

Hillary Clinton’s core agenda is a quest for power, even while she presents herself as champion of women’s issues, Stone says.

2

This is the first book to shed light on the couple’s deeply personal violations of the people they crushed in their obsessive quest for power.

“If Hillary intends to build her campaign around an appeal to women, her campaign is built on quicksand,” said Stone. “Hillary is a life-time abuser of women and her advocacy on women issues rings hollow,” he said.

The book includes details about Clinton’s alleged crimes in Arkansas, in the White House, during her term as Secretary of State, and at the Clinton Foundation, and concludes with revelations about Hillary’s current presidential campaign.

“Hillary’s hypocrisy is stunning ” Stone stated. “The key to defeating Hillary is to prove who she really is to women voters.”

“Join us in reading this book to be well armed for the upcoming 2016 Presidential Campaign,” said Kathy.
