PERIDANCE ENSEMBLE 21ST ANNIVERSARYGerald W. Lynch Theater, New YorkJanuary 26 - 29, 2006...Perry’s Nocturne continues to be one of my favourites. This evening included notable performances by Chris-tine Freeman and Junichi Fukuda in the first duet. Fukuda’s genin, virile, honest approach was a fine comple-ment to Freeman’s clarity of line and focus...

BUGLISI DANCE THEATRE 15th ANNIVERSARYJoyce Theater, New YorkFebruary 3 - 8, 2009...The new “Interplay No. 9-1” fared best. Set to evocative piano pieces by Bach, Chopin and Scriabin, these informal dances (in solo, duet and group formations) are often brilliant, particularly the seemingly improvisa-tory solo danced by Junichi Fukuda...

CHOREOGRAPHIC REVIEWS

...the evening’s chief pleasure...Fukuda knew exactly what he was doing here: creating a work of easeful harmony...bringing to mind freedom and flight…in this altogether pleasing work. The real credit was due to Fukuda’s modest, tasteful proposal.”

-March 8, 2014 by Sarah Kaufman

...Junichi Fukuda’s “Eclosion,” were finely danced... -January 27, 2013 by Sarah Halzack

...Junichi Fukuda’s “Trip Track Trapped” that somehow combined skateboards, mime, Edith Piaf songs, and large plastic toy guns into a lively piece that could have been very serious if it was not so childlike and charming. Plus Tiffanie Carson got a great audience response when-ever she entered with her bicycle, ringing the little bell when she exited.

-September 12, 2013 by David Cannon

Junichi Fukuda’s Eclosion uses slow motion and fast-paced projections of mental images to jux-tapose our nonchalance toward the familiar against the surge of emotions and recollections that come with stepping into uncharted territory. His performance quality, distinct compositional structure, and a delicate balance between athletic, frenzied movements and intimate floor work collaborated for an exceptional solo.

-January 28, 2013 by Rick Westerkamp

Eclosion, choreographed and performed by Junichi Fukuda and set to Olivier Bensa’s La grande terre, followed Vasilaky’s work. Fukuda’s use of repetition and the perimeter of the stage space were hypnotizing, as he jogged his memory and certain moments stuck out more than oth-ers for him before our eyes. The juxtaposition of his athletic movement phrases with his hands in his pockets and an inward focus was beautiful. His movement walked the line between frenetic and minimal, and perfectly mirrored the music.
