JUNE 2010 M O N T H L Y N E W S L E T T E R ISSUE NO. 138

For some time it has been a

dream of mine to visit a professional movie set and

watch how big budget movies are made. Sure, I’ve watched

“behind the scenes” DVDs, read

books on movie making, and have even visited several indie

sets (including our own). Last month, God set in motion the

answer to my prayers. To be

fair, it started a couple of years ago in Haiti. In 2008, I visited

Haiti in December, as I usually

do. This time there was an

unexpected surprise. Bob Scott, the director of photography for

the movies, “Facing the Giants” and “Fireproof” was there. He

also worked on a few secular

movies including “The Borne Ultimatum”. I was privileged

with the opportunity to assist him in a video he was making

for “New Missions” that year -

the organization that arranges my yearly visit. The following

year, he was in Haiti again in

December. This time he had

with him David Nixon, the Director of the movies, “Facing

the Giants” and “Fireproof”. I was blown away. Another

opportunity to spend

uninterrupted time with two successful Christian movie

makers. (continued on page 2)

(continued from page 1)

It was during this trip that

David Nixon invited me to visit the set of his next movie and to

the pre-screening of his current

movie, “Letters to God”, which opened nationwide in April

2010. David is not directing “Courageous”, but Bob Scott is

the director of photography.

Last month I was able to get permission through an online

acquaintance to attend the media day event for the movie

which will occur this month.

Being that we’ll shoot episodes of CMV and interview cast and

crew for a new series that we are planning called, “Behind the

Curtain”, it was an amazing

opportunity that God laid out before us. We’re expecting to

spend 3 days in Albany, Georgia where production is taking

place. At that time we should

have access to some of the

actors and crew members making the movie. The plan is

to shoot 4 episodes of “Christian Music Videos” where

cast and crew will be

interviewed within the episodes. A secondary purpose

is to shoot footage for a project that we’ve been planning for

some time called, “Behind The

Curtain”.

“Behind The Curtain”“Behind The Curtain” is a

documentary series highlighting what God is doing through the

lives and ministries of his

people. We have several ideas for future episodes, but this

first effort will focus on the Christian film industry. By

interviewing cast and crew

members of “Courageous” and hopefully, to do the same for

David Nixon’s next movie which is currently looking to begin

production later this year, we

should have plenty of material that highlights how God is

making an impact through these endeavors. KTF

Productions has made three

feature-length movies and four movie-style shorts. And we

have been privileged to see how God has used those

movies to change lives. We

know that he can and will do the same on these larger scale

movies. David Nixon’s latest movie, “Letters To God”, had a

budget of around 2 million

dollars. I heard that he is slated to make at least two more

Christian movies with similar budgets. I know that these

aren’t as large as many of the

Hollywood blockbusters, but they are larger than any movie

that I’ve worked on. “Behind The Curtain” is planned as an

ongoing series focusing on

several different local and national ministries. The hope is

that they will inspire others to put their hands to work for

God, and that it will Glorify God

by bringing light to what he is doing.

CMV EpisodesCurrently, we are planning to

produce 4 episodes of CMV on

location from the set of “Courageous”. We’ll just have to

see how things go. It is very possible that we’ll make more.

But it is also possible that we

could make less, depending on the content we gather and the

itinerary of events. There are

several other episodes that are planned for recording on

location this summer so stay

tuned.

“Courageous”We’ll be in Albany a few days

next month gathering footage for both CMV and “Behind The

Curtain”. We’ll also bring our

still cameras and snap photos as well. Be sure to check out

next months newsletter to find out how everything went, and

when/where you’ll be able to

see footage that we shot! You can also check out the official

“Courageous” website, to find out more information on the

production and the ministry.

This month all new CMV episodes! The week of June

7th, Surgeon reminds us of

why the scriptures warn that unbelievers are without excuse

when it comes to the gospel. In week 2, Surgeon takes us back

to the book of Psalm as David

encourages himself to wait on God - that things will happen in

his time if we just wait on him.

That episode will air the week of June 14th. The week of

June 21st, Surgeon takes the show on location in Chicago,

Illinois while he spins Christian

hits. In this episode, he encourages us to think on

things above, in an effort to keep our minds pure and

undefiled. Rounding out this

month, from Chicago, Surgeon warns us to stay in the word so

that we’ll never be deceived and abandon the faith. That

episode will air the week of

June 28th. Watch all four of these episodes this month on

Christian Music Videos and see new music videos by Dorothy

Murphy and Brandy Michelle.

CMV Accepting Prayer RequestsBeginning this month, Surgeon

encourages you to email him any prayer requests, and he

will be sure to pray for you. Recently, God impressed on me

that Christian Music Videos

could be even more “Christian” than it is already. The Bible

impresses on us as believers to care for one another. As a

matter of fact, it explains that

by this action, people will know that we are believers. So,

beginning this month, you’ll see an invitation on the show for

you to email me your prayer

requests. I’m not sure what

God will do with this effort, or how many hours I’ll be on my

knees, but I welcome the privilege of praying for any

need you are willing to share

with me. All prayer requests will remain confidential.

However, it would be nice to receive an email when a prayer

is answered. If you are

interested in having Surgeon (a.k.a. David Evans) pray for

you, just email your request to [email protected]

Cartoon Episodes Update

It has been slow going for “The Wartleys” as of late. I teach at

a University, and during the months that I teach, I don’t

have a lot of time to focus on

KTF Productions. So, inevitably, some things slip through the

cracks and in this case, it has been cartoon episodes of “The

Wartleys”. Now that the

semester is over, I’m beginning to focus my attention back on

the cartoon series. The first thing I did was determine which

episode should come next.

Even though I planned the order long ago, I realized that

some of the episodes will require help from Philip

Stephens and Paul Wycliffe,

our graphic designers. As a result, I can’t continue in the

order that I originally planned because their graphic elements

aren’t ready. Next step was to

find out which episodes did not require additional elements so

that I can possibly create and post episodes out of order. But

as I looked closely at the

remaining episodes, I soon found that there are several

that would need additional graphics. The remaining that

did not require any, could not

be posted out of order because the order in which they are

shared is crucial to the telling of the overall arc for this

season. So here I sit,

wondering what I should work on for “The Wartleys”. I’ve

decided that I’ll work on

episodes in parts. There are episodes that need graphic

elements and others that require mouth articulation for

mood driven episodes. Both of

these issues demand help from Philip or Paul. But I can work on

as much as I am able, and when those elements arrive, I

can finish them off. What does

this mean? It means that it may take some time before the

next cartoon episode is finished and posted to the website. But

in the meantime, I am working

on comic strips like the one on this page (above). I’m also

considering possibly making more online puzzles as well. In

addition, I hope to focus some

of my attention on the cartoons themselves so that I can finish

them off once I have the elements in place. At present

I’ve contacted both of the

graphic artists and will be working with them for the

graphic elements. I hope you will have patience for the roll

out of these episodes, because I think they are very powerful.

Lots of time and effort went

into each one, and I’m looking forward to seeing the printed

page transform into talking characters. Below you can see

a few images of what I’ve been

working on so far. I may

continue to share a few shots here and there as they are

made to keep you updated on their progress.

Coming This MonthThere are 3 new comic strips

planned for posting this month. First “Prayer”. Then on

Thursday, June 17th, read

“Christian-ese” - that’s a fun one. Lastly, on Thursday,

June 24th, read “Financial Peace”. Hey, if you’re a

facebook person, become a fan

of The Wartleys for the most up-to-date information on the

series progress.
