Environment is celebrated every year on June 5thto raise global awareness to take posit
environment action to protect nature and the planet earth. It was establish by the
United Nations General Assembly in 1972 on the day that United Nation Conference on
the Human Environment began.
The World Environment Day, 2014 will focus on Small Island and Climate Change and
the official slogan for the year 2014 is Raise Your Voice Not the Sea Level
World Environment Day has received tremendous support from the public, non-profit
organizations and governments around the world. Various awareness campaigns-beach
cleanups, concerts, exhibitions, film festivals, community events and much more are
organized to spread the message, which is to without harming nature. All the activities
of world Environment Day are carried out to spread eco-awareness and increase green
foot print.
It was indeed a remarkable environment day celebration in this year 2014 as it was a
significance milestone for HELP-O since it substantiated that there are diversified
groups of interested parties on biogas production who demands the sustainability of
life in terms of environmental protection.
One such person who truly values the protection of environment by soul, the French
Ambassador His Excellency John Paul Monschu who was much interested in visiting
one of the biogas plants established by HELP-O as a part of his environment day
celebration schedule.
Thus, in order fulfil his expectation; the biogas plant established at National Youth
Centre, Maharagama by HELP-O was selected. The responsible parties at National
Youth Centre had organized a truly admirable welcoming to the French Ambassador
which was highly appreciated by him and HELP-O also they had facilitated the event at
greater extent as well.
He, the French Ambassador His Excellency John Paul Monschu, was highly fascinated
and appreciated the approach which has been taking forward by HELP-O Eco Green
Ltd, theestablishment of biogas plants for the reduction of accumulated organic waste
by converting those wastes in to an energy source which could be used as an alternative
to the LP gas which ultimately results in mitigation of toxic methane from entering in to

the atmosphere and the usage of by product of the process known as the liquid fertilizer
for gardening and the income which could be generated by selling those off to the
market.
As an eco friendly organization we join with and help to save the environment. Ourmain goal is to reduce CH4, CO2gas emissions to the air. HELP-O has implemented a
bio gas unit in the National Youth Conference premises
On last year HELP-O celebrated the World Environment Day with Sri Lankan Airlines
at Katunayake. The Company celebrated the World Environment Day 2014 in
ceremonially with Mr. JeanPaul Monchau, the Ambassador of France at National
Youth Services Council (NYSC), Maharagama. He joined with us through HELP-O
Newsletter and he interested and visited the Bio Gas Plant implemented by HELP-O.

Protection of the environment is on the curriculum in Sri Lanka public school. But research reveals that, for
example, while the topic of weather changes and related risks is taught at the higher grades. The primary
focus remains of the environment by separating the issue from daily life. Another important consideration
that supports this project is the narrow focus of environment education in schools mainly to achieve higher
grades.

The Jungle fowl is national bird in Sri Lanka. As with other Junglefowl, the Srilankan
Junglefowl is strongly and dimorphic. The male is much lager than female, with more vivid
plumage and a highly exaggerated wattle and comb. It is fairly common bird. It spends its life
in forest or its outskirts. Especially in wet weather, it likes to frequent open places, such as roadsides or glades.
The food of Junglefowl consists of grain, weed seeds, berries, various succulent leaves and
buds, and a large proportion of small animals, such as crickets, centipedes and termites. When
Nillu flowers and seeds in up-country jungles, Junglefowl migrate to these areas in large
numbers of abundant fatten on the seed.
Junglefowls main breeding season is from December to April and probably again from August
to September. The nest is often a shallow scrape in the ground, concealed by herbage, at the foot
of a tree or beside a dead log.
The eggs number two to four ; they are creamy - white, some very finely peppered, other more
boldly but sparingly speckled with brown.
The male has orange, red body plumage, and dark purple to black wings and tail. The feathers
of the mane descending from head to base of spine are golden, and the face has bare red skin
and wattles. The comb is red with a yellow centre.
Female Junglefowl should be considered quite colorful when compared to lots of other birds,
lacks the flamboyance of the male plumage more catering for camouflage. After all she has the
chores of looking after the eggs and chicks. Again most important, she also has no wattles or
crown on the head.
Male length - 66-72cm
Female length - 35cm
Male weight - 790-1140g
Female weight - 510-625g
Sinharaja, Kitulgala, Yala and is a very good sites to watch Sri Lankas Jungle fowl.

be identifying valuable thing. Ruhunu hospital can be identifying as a best privet hospital in
Galle district. HELP O Eco Green Ltd invited to Ruhunu hospital for establish bio gas unit as a
solution for drain water. This unit can produce 44m3 (cubic meter) bio gas for at about 750kg
garbage and this constriction ended in June successfully. They have main problem which they dont have regulars wasting water draining system. Now
they have real solution. From this construction main product can get bio gas and liquid fertilizer
can get by product. Bio gas can be use various day to day activities and liquid fertilizer can
regard as extra advantage from this project.

Awareness is the state of being aware, or having knowledge of something. Its
ineluctable to be aware about the things and duties that you are dealing with. Thats
why HELP-O Eco Green Company had organized an awareness program on
monitoring the bio gas unit installed in MAS Intimates - UNICHELA (PVT) Ltd.
Mr.Sampath Ponnamperuma the Deputy Manager (Engineering),Mr.Wajira Gunasekara
the Senior HR Executive with few staff members were participated in this occasion.
The awareness program was conducted by Mr.Chathura Welivitiya the Managing
Director of HELP-O Eco Green Company. Through this we hope to reduce the
problems which are occurring when using the bio gas. Numbers of matelotes were
participated for this valuable event as they need to be aware about maintaining it
properly.
First of all Mr.Chathura Welivitiya described them the present situation of Sri Lankasbecause of the urban waste, waste water and energy. As a sustainable solution for these
problems he introduced them bio gas. Before starting the awareness towards
maintaining the bio gas plant it is important to acquaint the background. After that only
they can exactly understand the importance of maintaining the plant.
What is bio gas?
Mr.Chathura Welivitiya explained it them with every details including what it contains.
This made them aware that increasing methane percentage in the plant is the mainthing to produce bio gas as it need to be contain 50%- 70% comparing to other resource
gases like Carbon Dioxide and Hydrogen Sulfite. To produce methane what do they
need to use as inputs? That was the next thing he described. While he is describing
those inputs the workers were very interested as they asked many questions. Green
color things are the most productive source for methane.
As an example cow dung and vegetables are most suitable for their bio gas plant as the
resources they can easily find. And that was valuable information for them.
Further then he explained that bio gas plant can only feed by digesting organic waste.
And those materials also need to be chopped before entering to the plant. If large
materials like vegetable waste, fish waste did not chop well it will occur many problems
in near future as blocking the gas plant. He expressed some of his experiences according

to this matter. And one worker asked about the water percentage that needs to put with
inputs. It was described very clearly by Mr.Chathura Welivitya.
He advised them not to enter much lime and pine apple waste to the plant as lime is not
a chemical thing that they could be using it. Though lime is not a chemical thing theacid it produces can kill the bacteria in digester tank which produces gas. Then he
explained about the things which they should not use as input materials. Non organic
waste as glass, polythene, plastic, chemicals, rubber, metal etc are not to be used.
Organic things like stones, sand, animal skeletons, dried leaves, fruit seeds etc are also
not applicable to enter.
Then the structure of the plant was described to them using images as they can
understand it easily. And to encourage them to plant vegetables using the organic
fertilizer of bio gas plant he showed them some pictures of home gardens which doingusing bio fertilizer. They were impressed by those photos and ask how to use those. It
was described them with the percentages of adding water to the fertilizer.
Some of their problems were discussed in there and all of those were solved. And also
he made them aware about the manometer as it will be very important. How to check
the gas level was their main problem and he explained it to them.
After the successful day of work they were well satisfied with the awareness program
as they got to aware about not only maintaining their bio gas plant accurately but alsoabout bio gas.
