Dr. Cindy R. Elliser received her B.S. and M.S. in Biological Sciences from Florida Atlantic Uni-versity (FAU) and received her Ph.D. in Integra-tive Biology from FAU. For 10 years she worked with Dr. Herzing and the Wild Dolphin Project
studying Atlantic spotted and bottlenose dolphins in the Bahamas. In 2014 Dr. Elliser moved to the Pacific Northwest and founded Pacific Mammal Research to study marine mammals in the Salish Sea, particularly harbor porpoises and harbor seals. She is the author of numerous papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and has presented at international scientific con-ferences. Dr. Elliser also teaches biology and related courses as an adjunct professor at Skagit Valley College. Pacific Mammal Research (PacMam) is a scientific research organization that studies free-ranging marine mammals in the Salish Sea to improve our understanding of their life history, behavior, social structure and ecology within a dynamic and changing environment. Using traditional and innovative scientific techniques we provide information critical for conservation measures and create public awareness through education. Join us for the exceptional lecture June 16th at 2:30PM in the Dinning Room.

Chandler’s Square Residents’
Council Meeting
May 25, 2017
Present:
Harvey Osterhouse, President
Roberta DeMarre, Secretary
Maxine Lang
Mary Lou McKibben
Harry Buckner
Dee Holmes
Millicent Roberts
Cleo Sanders
Becca Booker-DeMonbreun
Meeting was called to order at 2:30pm. The following discussions took place:
Old Business: Housekeeping responsibilities are to be included in the New Resident
packets. It has been confirmed that they are in the New Resident Hand-
book.
Housekeeping has had a change in supervision. Erin will now be the
housekeeping supervisor and will report directly to John. This will help to
streamline the flow of information.
The nurse call system was briefly down during this past month. Before the
system crashed a new system had been ordered. This new nurse call sys-
tem has since been installed and is working properly.
Two suggestions for a Resident Council fundraiser included a fashion
show in conjunction with Soroptimist or a concert displaying our resi-
dents’ superb musical talents. This will be discussed more at the next
meeting.
New Business:
Suggestion that is no one volunteers to lead a fundraiser by September the
council will just have to ask for donations and Maxine will handle the
funds.
Jean Schuster was wondering if there is a need for an addition machine to
enlarge print. Those at the meeting agreed that it would be a great addition
if donated and a good location might be the conference room.
There was a concern over staff’s hair in the dining room being in their
face. This information has been passed along to Pete and Ian. If you have
additional concerns please place them in the suggestion box near the lob-
by.
There is a desire to have to doors to the outside open in the dining room
without having the bugs come in. This desire and concern has been passed
along to Pete and John.
There are more umbrellas and stands on the way for the patios around the
building.
Janet is our new dining room manager. She has replaced Donna. Please
welcome her to Chandler’s.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:55pm.
Respectfully submitted, Roberta DeMarre, Secretary
Healthy Living Next Topic: “Chronic Pain & Occupational Therapy”
More than 130 million Americans suffer from chronic, or frequently occurring, pain. Chronic pain creates both phys-ical and psychological problems that affect whether a per-son can engage in meaningful activities each day. Pain can decrease a person's strength, coordination, and independ-ence in addition to causing stress that may lead to depres-sion.
With the help of occupational therapy, people with chronic pain can learn to manage the physical and psychological effects and lead active and productive lives. Many people with chronic pain already have received treatment with medication, surgery, heat, cold, nerve stimulation and mas-sage. What many have not yet learned is how manage-ment of daily activities and lifestyle can contribute to suc-cessful, long-term coping with pain.
Select Rehab looks forward to seeing you on Friday, June 2nd at 10:30am in Captain's Crossing to find out what an Occupational Therapist can do for relief of pain and what an individual can do to cope with Chronic Pain.
Our first picnics and walks

adventure!
Please come along and enjoy the fresh
air and beautiful scenery while we
