JUNE 6, 2017 THE CHURCH VISITOR Back to Church Sunday This will mark the third year we have done Na4onal Back to Church Sunday. Each year the a<endance has grown, and we hope to do even be<er this 4me. Mark the date this year - it is September 17, 2017. Make a list of people you will invite and start praying for them and you. Growth in the church, both short term and long term, require a plan and then some ac4on. Each year this event has provided momentum as we head into the fall and Advent season at the end of the year. We seek to do the same this year. As I men4oned in my Evangelism sermon a few weeks ago, if the church is to con4nue to go forward and grow, all of us have to do our part and bring people here to Richland Hills. Do your part by praying, crea4ng a plan of who you are going to bring, and then bring them. Wouldn’t it be amazing if God blessed us with 200 plus that Sunday? By that 4me the improvements in the sanctuary will be in place and tested. What a day that would be. Richland Hills Christian Church 3908 Ruth Road Richland Hills, TX 76118 (817) 284-8679 Senior Pastor: Paul Klaus Website: www.rhccdoc.com E-mail: [email protected] Easter Special Offering Preaching this Sunday Mike Morrison, one of our elders, will be preaching this Sunday. Show your encouragement and support for Mike as he speaks a good word for Jesus. Sunday, June 11, 2017 Sermon Title: “The Power of One Plus One” Sermon Text: Matthew 28:18-20 Bible Reading this Year If you are working through a Bible reading plan, you should be nearing halfway through. Hopefully you have encountered and learned about our great God. If you haven’t started a study, there is no be<er 4me than the present as the heat of the summer will push us indoors more. Charles Finney, a famous preacher from the 19 th century, said the one thing that fosters revival in the church is Bible study. Take some 4me and get to know God be<er through the study of God’s word.

Pentecost Special Offering - June 11

Churches Change the World… Start More! is the theme for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 2017 Pentecost Offering, which will be celebrated Sundays, June 4 and June 11.  To date, the Christian Church has started 980 new churches in the United States and Canada, sharing the gospel with more than 61,500 individuals since initiating the 2020 Vision in 2000. According to McTyer our original goal was to start 1,000 new congregations by 2020, but we can’t stop there. “We must continue our journey by setting our heights higher, planting even more churches and equipping more courageous leaders,” he says. Each year, half of the Pentecost Offering is designated to the local Christian Disciples Region/Area in an effort to start and sustain new churches. The other half is used by Hope Partnership to support the recruitment, assessment, training and coaching of new church leaders at events like Leadership Academy.

Quote from: “The Reason Why Faith Makes Sense”

—by Mark Mittelberg

“And so, with this growing awareness, I finally reached the point where I could wholeheartedly accept his salvation and guidance—and I must tell you now, years later, that those realizations were right; God’s ways are best for us. He does have our best interests in mind. No, following him is not always easy; sometimes it can be much harder. But it’s ultimately better. And the benefits I’ve discovered in this life, I’m sure, are nothing compared to those in the next.”

Quote from: “Knowing Scripture” —by R. C. Sprout

“The Christian faith has enormous content. Our faith in Christ is not based on speculation but finds its foundation in the truth of what God himself reveals in sacred Scripture. When we talk about being “saved by faith,” we’re talking about faith that is grounded in information, in content, in truth. We’re talking about faith in the reality of the person and work of Christ, faith in the God whose character we know from the Bible, faith based on the actual history of God’s redeeming his people from Adam to the present day.”

Quote from: “Subversive Kingdom” —by Ed Stetzer

“If you were expecting Christian life to come with light requirements and easy exemptions—if you thought any old excuse would be blithely met by God with a wave of the hand and free hall-pass permission—you’ve bought a line of religious thinking that is all beach and no sunburn. You’re looking at kingdom living not from a foxhole but from a fun park.

God calls us to faithfulness.”
