This report covers the drinking water quality for Otsego Township for the calendar year 2011. This information is a snapshotof the quality of the water that we provided to you in 2011. Included are details about where your water comes from, what itcontains, and how it compares to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and state standards.Your water comes from three groundwater wells and is treated with liquid chlorine to provide water system disinfection.The Township has a 500,000 gallon elevated water storage tank, and an emergency water supply interconnection with thecities of Plainwell and Otsego. The State performed an assessment of our source water in 2003 to determine the susceptibilityor the relative potential of contamination. The susceptibility rating is on a seven-tiered scale from "very-low" to "very-high"based primarily on geologic sensitivity, water chemistry and contaminant sources. The susceptibility of our source has beendetermined to be high by the Department of Environmental Quality. We are making efforts to protect our sources. TheTownship completed the wellhead protection program to protect the groundwater resource serving the Township’s wells. If youwould like to know more about the report please contact the Otsego Township Hall at (269) 694-9434, Monday throughThursday, 8:00 am until 4:00 pm.Contaminants and their presence in water: Drinking Water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to containat least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that water posesa health risk. More information about contaminants and potential health effects can be obtained by calling the EPA’s SafeDrinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).Vulnerability of sub-populations: Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the generalpopulation. Immuno-compromised persons such as persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, persons who haveundergone organ transplants, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune systems disorders, some elderly, and infants can beparticularly at risk from infections. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers.EPA/CDC guidelines on appropriate means to lessen the risk of infection by Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminantsare available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).Sources of Drinking Water: The sources of drinking water (both tap water and bottled water) include rivers, lakes, streams,ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. Our water comes from wells. As water travels over the surface of the land or throughthe ground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and, in some cases, radioactive material, and can pick up substancesresulting from the presence of animals or from human activity.Contaminants that may be present in source water include:

Microbial Contaminants, such as viruses and bacteria, which may come from sewage treatment plants, septic systems,agricultural livestock operations and wildlife.Inorganic Contaminants, such as salts and metals, which can be naturally occurring or result from urban stormwater runoff,industrial or domestic wastewater discharges, oil and gas production, mining or farming.

Pesticides & Herbicides, which may come from a variety of sources such as agriculture and residential uses.

Radioactive Contaminants, which can be naturally occurring or be the result of oil and gas production and mining activities.Organic Chemical Contaminants, including synthetic and volatile organic chemicals, which are by-products of industrialprocesses and petroleum production and can also come from gas stations, urban stormwater runoff and septic systems.

In order to ensure that tap water is safe to drink, EPA prescribes regulations that limit the amount of certain contaminants inwater provided by public water systems. Food and Drug Administration regulations establish limits for contaminants in bottledwater, which provide the same protection for public health.

WATER QUALITY DATAThe table below lists all the drinking water contaminants that we detected during the 2011 calendar year. The presence ofthese contaminants in the water does not necessarily indicate that the water poses a health risk. Unless otherwise noted, thedata presented in this table is from testing done January 1 – December 31, 2011. The State allows us to monitor for certaincontaminants less than once per year because the concentrations of these contaminants are not expected to vary significantlyfrom year to year. Monitoring and Reporting Requirements: The State and EPA require us to test our water on a regular basis to ensure itssafety. This violation did not pose a threat to the quality of the drinking water. Otsego Townshiphas corrected the sample monitoring violation by performing sampling on May 1, 2012 which brings the Township back intocompliance.

Terrie was born July 8, 1951 to Cleo andMargaret Belden, died June 23, 2012 after asudden stroke. Mrs. Wood was the proprietor ofAlterations & Sew Forth in Otsego, MI. She was arespected seamstress, a master of pie crusts, alife-long Tigers fan, and an avid reader. She wasa warm and caring wife, daughter, mother,grandmother and friend. She made costumes forschool musicals and dance recitals. She willinglyproduced pie squares for family gatherings,popcorn for street fairs, and scones for anyonewho wanted to squeeze onto her porch to watchparades pass by. Most importantly, her skills anddemeanor made women feel like the beautifulbrides they were meant to be. She is survived byher husband of 42 years, Carl Wood; her father,Cleo Belden; her brother, Lawrence Belden andhis wife, Sue (both of Allegan); her daughters,Kathaleen Wood and her husband, PatrickThompson (Southfield, Michigan), AmandaBurns and her husband, Andys (Delaware, Ohio),and Sarah Alling and her husband, Andrew(Otsego, Michigan); and her grandchildren,Maryjane Elizabeth Alling and Broderick CarlinThompson. Jerri Sue BLOODAGE 69 - PLAINWELL

Jerri passed away Saturday, June 23, 2012, inKalamazoo. Mrs. Blood was born September 14,1942 in Kalamazoo to Jocko and Marie(Hoeness) Blakeman and was a lifelong residentof the area. For many years she was employedwith Borgess-Pipp Hospital, retiring when sheturned 50. Jerri like to watch the Detroit Tigers,Verlander was her favorite, and was a dedicatedfan of Days of Our Lives soap opera. In herleisure time she loved going to bingo, baking,crafts, sewing, decorating sugar cookies, going tomovies and shopping. She was always gardeningand loved working with her flowers, watchingbirds and always making sure they had food. Jerrihad a great sense of humor, was a very strongperson, both inside and out. She was caring andgiving, no matter her limitations, always helpingwith potlucks, bake sales or just lending an ear.She was a cancer survivor and despite herlimitations, she would always do exercise classand crafts. She was a loving wife, mom andfriend. On July 24, 1965 in Allegan she marriedJerry Lee Blood and they had celebrated 46years together. Surviving in addition to herhusband are a son and a daughter, Ken Blood ofByron Center and Crissy Blood of Kalamazoo; asister-in-law, Sandi Weiso; many nieces andnephews. She was preceded in death by threesisters and their husbands, Medora (Harry)Winter, Wava (Herman) Hartwig, Donna (Roy)Norton; and a brother, Jack Weiso. In keepingwith her wishes cremation has taken place and amemorial service will be held at a later date. Inlieu of flowers, donations may be directed to herfamily or to the charity of your choice.
