Big Valley Automotive, Inc. was named Business of the Month by the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce. The home-owned Ford and Chrysler-Dodge dealership was honored for its commitment to the community through many avenues and for the recent remodel the business has undergone. Chamber Ambassadors were on hand to present the award to co-owner Wade Rutter and the management at the dealership. Rutter’s partner Randy Van Leuveen was unavailable.

Started in 1985 as a way to give Roosevelt County residents a chance to cele-brate their pioneering herit-age, Heritage Days cele-brates its 30th birth-day on June 20-21.
The early years of the celebration, first held in May, in-cluded two days of ro-deo and vendor booths were set up around the square. A parade and music were also a part of the event.
These days most of the activities are held at City Park with a car show, motor-cycle rally, barrel racing and fun run included in the fes-tivities.
This year’s Heritage Days honors Roosevelt County Pioneer of the Year Evelyn Cater of Elida. The Roose-velt County Pioneer Com-mittee will be honored from the stage at 1:30 p.m. as those in attendance are invit-ed to share a piece of cake.
On Friday afternoon activ-ities begin with the CGRA Heritage Days Barrel Races.
That evening, music begins with a Christian Country Jamboree at City Park.
On Saturday the day be-gins with the Heritage Days
Fun Run sponsored by Portales MainStreet and begin-ning at the Yam Thea-tre. The car show starts at 9 a.m. at City Park and the pa-rade gets under way at 10 a.m. The parade returns to its traditional route from
the intersection of Second and Ave. O going east on Second to Abilene and then to City Park.
Booths are open after the parade and music begins with local country musicians followed by regional blue-grass Gospel groups in the afternoon. Booths close at 4 p.m.
For questions about Herit-age Days contact the Cham-ber at 356-8541. For more information or to register for a vendor booth or for the parade visit portales.com and click on the link in the calendar.
