The Ballston Spa House and Garden Club is sponsoring a draw-ing for Yankee tickets. Proceeds from the drawing will support a one-week scholarship for a Ballston Spa middle school student to attend the Lake Colby Environmental Education Camp in Saranac Lake in the sum-mer, as well as a cash scholarship to a deserving high school senior that has been involved in horticulture or a related field. Sunmark Federal Credit Union has created a mobile video game ap-plication as part of a year-long fund-raising effort to benefit the Re-gional Food Bank of Northeast-ern New York. The new mobile game, officially titled Duck Pirates, has been created by Sunmark to offer a fun and engaging way to raise funds and awareness for the Food Bank. The game, patterned after An-gry Birds, pits the Sunmark duck against the angry pirate monkeys. The main objective is for players to hurl projectiles at the monkeys knocking them off their perch and then capturing the treasure while obtaining the highest score. The ap-plication is free to download and en-courages people to make a small do-nation and share the game through Facebook. The application can be used across a host of technology plat-forms, such as: Android and iPhone/iPad. Sunmark has also partnered with the Tri-City Valley Cats on a spin-off video game titled Sluggin' SouthPaw. Similar to the Duck Pi-rates game, this will be promoted throughout the 2011 season at Tri-City Valley Cats events . That appli-cation is also free to download and share and can be found at the Tri-City Valley Cats web site and all An-droid and Apple app stores. Sunmark is developing another version of the game with WGNA called Country

Ducks which will be promoted at Country Fest at the Altamont Fair-grounds. Sunmark is a major spon-sor of the event. All proceeds from these endeavors will go directly to the Regional Food Bank of North-eastern New York.

For many years, the ebullient Mia Jones-True had always wanted to open some kind of boutique. A place that she and her friend, Dr. Birute Wise, could work together as partners to build and en-joy --whether it would be a little gift/antique shop or clothing boutique. The opportunity came when a boutique space in Ballston Spa became available at a price that was affordable. Accord-ing to Mia, "I was beginning to become very nervous to think that this could actually happen, I could barely sleep the next few nights!" Mia threw herself into researching what needed to be done to get her business off the ground. "It's amazing what you can find out in a short period of time on the internet and I also had a lot of friends that helped me along the way. My friends and I cleaned the space, painted, hung shelves and clothing bars, little by little, every night until 2 or 3 in the morning. We ate dinner on the bare floors together. I spent nights right in the shop on the floor, so I could wake up the next morning & get right back to work." True Elegance was born on Black Friday, November 27, 2009 at 83 Milton Avenue. "I did it", Mia remembers thinking to her-self. "I made one of my dreams come true. If my mother was alive, she'd be so proud of me."

True Elegance is a four-season boutique for Women & Juniors, that serves sizes 0-3x. The boutique sells new & vintage cloth-ing and accessories, as well as high-end consignment. Every last Thursday of the month, True Elegance holds a fashion show at Di Donnas Restaurant in Malta, with models showing off some of the shop’s latest clothing and accessories.

The Annual Ice Cream Social, part of the BSBPA con-cert series, is once again shaping up to be one of the highlights of the summer. The constant in the con-cert series year after year is the Union Fire Company

#2 Band and its selection of music under the direction of the Band Director John Roche. They will be sure to draw hundreds to Wiswall Park again on August 4th, 2011 so be one of the early arrivals to find your spot in the park. The other benefit to being early is to share in the ice cream, cake, bottled water and coffee which be available at a minimal charge to cover some of the costs of the refreshments. Balloon Artist Daryl Baldwin has once again been booked to entertain and provide balloon art for the first 300 kids at the park that evening. So mark your calendars for August 4h and join us for this great evening of entertainment, fun and refreshments for all age groups.

Thanks a lot. We at the BSBPA may not say thank you enough. We, the board and officers, are all volunteers so

you would think we'd know how important a bit of thanks can be. True some of our busiest volunteers are our

board members and they might get thanked at our monthly board meetings. But I thought I'd use this forum to

thank a few people.

If you've seen a warm, friendly person at the BSBPA table with information and merchandise at the Farmers'

Market that was either Rae Whitehead or Louise Ruggiero working it. Thank you both for the time you put in

each week to represent the Association. For that matter, thanks to Cyndi Pastore for making the Farmer's Market happen and

flourish. Thanks to Deanna Veet for staffing a similar BSBPA table at the recent Open House for Gateway House of Peace. The

membership committee has recently kicked their efforts into high gear to ensure new members get a speedy response and a

welcome package. Thanks there go to Ellie Dillon, Bill Breheny, Cliff Baum and the rest of their committee.

Last week, I was beyond impressed with the dedication of some of our volunteers. With only about 14 hours notice, Paul

Coleman, Eric Andersen, Jim Whittredge and Joe Shaver took off all or part of a day from work to handle a last minute scram-

ble when the first of our Concerts in the Park had to move to a rain location. Huge thanks to you.

If you are at one of our events with a friend and that friend has something nice to say, consider pointing them towards the

BSBPA volunteer on hand to repeat their praise. Or ask your friend if he or she would like to volunteer with us to keep these

events happening. And lastly, thanks to you for being a member!

Let Us Promote Your Business at Our Events and in New Member Packets

Once again, the summer season is upon us and that means the BSBPA table will be set up at our popular summer events--the outdoor Farmers' Market on Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings through September 29, the free Concerts in the Park series on Thursday evenings from June 23-August 25, and the Ballston Spa Film Festival, August 4,5 and 6. As a benefit of BSBPA membership, we welcome you to promote your business or organization with flyers, brochures, menus or business cards to display on the BSBPA table at these very well attended events, which draw not only local residents, but people from outside the community. There is no charge to you, all you need to do is provide us with your promotional material. If you have supplied materials to us in the past, please be sure that we have the most current information for your business or organization.

Additionally, the membership committee is looking for coupons and special offer flyers from our member businesses to include in the welcome packets that are delivered to all new BSBPA members. This is a great way to expand awareness of your business and encourage new BSBPA members to check out your shop, restaurant or service. The easiest way for you to do this is to have something we can reproduce, such as a sheet of coupons or promotional offers that the membership committee can reprint and clip when they need additional copies, rather than having to ask the businesses

for new items each time they run out.

The First Baptist Church of Ballston Spa Summer Feeding Program

July 7 - August 29, 2011 First Baptist Church of Ballston Spa

For children age 3 - 18 who reside in the village of Ballston Spa

The Summer Feeding Program will provide free, healthy and nutritious lunches on each Monday and Thurs-day during July and August for children who receive free or reduced lunch during the school year and reside within the Village of Ballston Spa. Permission forms must be signed by parents prior to children entering the program. (see right)

A bagged lunch will be provided to children age 3 to 18. Meals will be served outside between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at The First Baptist Church of Ballston Spa (FBC). Lunches will be served inside on days of inclem-ent weather. The FBC will have 4-5 volunteers to serve the lunches and will always staff a volunteer trained in Choking Rescue.

The Meals will be provided by Prestige Services of Saratoga Springs. Prestige Services offers healthy, bal-anced sack lunch meals that adhere to USDA guidelines. Meals will be delivered fresh to FBC on each pro-gram day. Meals will be served on a first come, first serve basis.

The Saratoga County Fair celebrates its 170th year! Con-ducted by the Saratoga County Agricultural Society (SCAS), the Fair is held for six days and nights from July 19-24, 2011, 9 am-Midnight, at the Saratoga County Fair Grounds in Ballston Spa, New York.

See the county's finest animals in the large and small ani-mal areas. Enjoy the entertainment at the Grandstand, Fam-ily Pavilion, Beer Garden, Kingsbury Park, Townley Building, Talent Pavilion. The Fair offers a large amusement midway, 30 acres of entertainment, talent shows, and exhibits, over 100 vendors and a wide variety of exhibits including an-tiques, home arts, fine arts, flowers, 4-H, farm and garden, Grange and conservation. history and to kick off the exhibit Batter Up! 100 Years of Baseball 1850 –1950, opening

July 1st and running through November 4th at Brookside Museum. The softball game

will be held at Doubleday Field in Ballston Spa, Abner Doubleday’s hometown, and will

feature players representing the long-standing rivalry between

Saratoga Springs and Ballston Spa. The public is invited and concessions will be available

at the park. A reception will also follow directly after the game at Brookside on Charlton

Does your kid dig? July 25 through July 29 Brookside Museum is very excited to host “Brookside Digs: An Archeology Experience” at Brookside. Students in grades 5-8 (ages 10-14), will dig into local history, uncovering buried artifacts from Brookside’s historic site in Ballston Spa. Your “junior archeologist” will enjoy a weeklong experience, working along-side archeologists from Hartgen Archeological Associates. The cost is $250 per student for this five day camp, and a $50 deposit is due at the time of registration. The program runs from 9am-3pm, with pre and post care available (for an additional fee). There is limited
