Our church is in a time of transition once again. You know it
is almost like riding a roller coaster, some times of quiet, and then
another time of change. Our Church Council has elected to form a
Technology Committee separate from the Communication Com-
mittee. So now we have a Technology Committee. I want to
thank Dan Grose for heading this committee, particularly at this
time when technology is changing so rapidly, to keep the church
current with these constant changes. I remember when I came to
the church four years ago, all we had was a Website that Mike
Dixon had designed and maintained. If I wanted to contact the
youth, I would send out an email. In that time period the youth
went from email to texting, and now it seems that Facebook is the
best way of getting the info out. Our Website has taken on a few
changes and more are still being planned, plus we have a Cicero
United Methodist Church Facebook page, and a ciceroumc-
youthgroup page. We are also considering having a Bible Study
online for those who cannot get away to come to the church and
meet with others. It is truly a new day, and we need some people
to join Dan in making our Technology decisions and keeping up
with the times and designs. Dennis Lafferty is the chairperson for
the Communication Committee, and we need a few persons to help
keep our church active in the community and to keep our commu-
nication strong amongst ourselves.
Our Church Council has also voted to establish a Vision Committee to look to our
future. A committee such as this was formed years ago that brought about the addition to
our church. For those who have come here in the last five or so years, you cannot even
imagine how different this church building is from before the addition. I want to thank all
those who put in many hours of sacrificial work and their monetary gifts for this to be ac-
complished. But now it is time to begin looking at where the next five to ten years will take
us, what God is calling us to do and be in the town of Cicero. What will our legacy be as the
Cicero United Methodist Church? We need people to be part of this Vision Committee, to
pray and ask God to give us the wisdom, knowledge and faith to serve one another and those
God whom places in our care. Karen Rice will be heading this committee; and we are look-
ing for persons of different ages and walks of life to help us begin to ask some very serious
questions and to understand where the congregation believes God would want us to be. Our
church, just like the world, is in a time of change, and we ask that you keep us in your
prayers and that some of you will volunteer to help lead the way.

Announcing: For Ten Weeks This Summer!
IMPORTANT L L Update
A few important announcements for summer -
1) There will be NO LOL meals on June 29 OR for the month of July
We want to give our hard working LOL volunteers a bit of a break as we gear up to begin again
on August 3rd.
2) Attendance has been down at our spring LOL meals. If you have attended in the past and
stopped coming because of the crowds OR you just want to see what is happening, please
join us on a Wednesday night in June.
3) We are in need of volunteers to prepare and/or organize meals in June. See Chris Osborn, if
you can help in any way.
Because of donations from various agencies including Third Phase, we no longer need many desserts.
In addition, we are often given food supplies and sometimes just need someone to prepare the food we
already have in the LOL pantry. If budget concerns have prevented your participation, now is the time to
offer to help by preparing a meal.
Many thanks for the awesome support for our 2010-2011 LOL program. We have served a weekly
meal for 8 straight months (with a break in December), and that is quite an accomplishment for a congre-
gation of our size. Please continue to pray for our ministry. Those involved on a regular basis know what
an impact we are having in this community.

HHELP - Summer Lunch Program CUMC has been asked to furnish the microwavable macaroni & cheese cups for the children‟s
summer lunch program (HHELP) You may bring them in anytime. Packing starts June 11 and
continues for 10 weeks. At this point we are projecting that we will need 75 cups per week X ten
weeks which would equal 750 cups.
CUMC will pack lunches for HHELP on Saturday, June 11th, at 10:00 a.m.
at Angels‟ Attic. Please contact Karen Mann 984-4005.
OUTREACH TEAM The next Outreach Planning Team Meeting will be Sunday, June 12,at 1:00 p.m.
We are working on a sign for the Welcome Center. Our committee coordinates LOL, shut-in visita-
tion, and visitor welcome services. Please feel free to join us, if you are interested in the outreach
programs at CUMC. Anyone is welcome.
Contact Jeannie Ecker at 984-4802 for more information.
The March 27th Church Service is still available on the Cicero UMC Face book. Please, if you
were not able to attend that service, it is important that you watch it on Facebook.
Volunteers Wanted! We can use some volunteers to help with our summer Kids‟ Jam. We have program leaders commit-
ted for each week but would appreciate additional help with the children. Helpers from middle
school to adult age are all welcome.
The schedule is each Sunday, June 12th through August 14th. There will be a meeting on Sunday,
June 5th to finalize plans and introduce the program to the helpers. If you would like to be involved
for one Sunday or every Sunday, please contact Karen Rice at 984-4527.
Care-A-Gram Ministry
Our Care-A-Gram ministry continues. If you know someone who needs to be remembered in any
way, please contact Peggy Richards or the church office. It does make a difference!

Just A Moment By Karen Rice
Proverbs 15:17 - A bowl of vegetables with someone you love is better than steak with someone you hate.
April 1 April 10 April 17 April 24 Total
$3254 $3535 $4114 $3807 $14710 Income
$19956 Expense
$( 5246) Loss
I was particularly grumpy this morning as I knew that I must write this article for the newslet-
ter and it wasn‟t good. I wanted it to be good, but this morning, on May 17, it is drizzling, chilly
and miserable, so it set a chilly mood. May giving is down from April. Fret, fret, fret. So here
goes . . . . for the month of April our giving was $14,420, however our operating expenses were
$19,956.
So many of us have gone through personal hardships and have learned to eat that bowl of vege-
tables. It will be for us to help those who have only eaten steak through this time. We put this in
the Lord‟s hands, but we must follow His direction.
My mood lifted as I walked through the church and thought of the hymn, Surely the Presence of
the Lord is in this Place. From its lyrics I‟m reminded of your faces and your love. Then I think
of our LOL program and think how blessed we are to be able to share bowls of vegetables with
people we love every week.
I can only report the numbers and pray over them. I have no answers, only the Lord does.
Pray with me now. Heavenly Father, we are blessed by your presence and your approval. As we
consider the lilies of the field we know you are in control and our needs will be met. You have
blessed us with much; may we share those blessings through our ministry. In the name of your
Liturgist Opportunities & Expectations
I would like to thank all who are willing to serve as liturgists this year. It is a blessing that we have
several of you dedicated to this vital service to our church.
This is one ministry that is well-supported, especially in our 10:30 am service where we continue to
schedule volunteers on a 3 or 4 month rotating schedule. Our 9:00 am service could use additional vol-
unteers, but we are blessed to have enough participants to fill each month.
If you serve in this capacity or would like to do so, below is a clarification of our current expecta-
tions for liturgists.
The schedule is published in the monthly newsletter.
If you cannot serve on your designated Sunday, either contact the office and we will find a replace-
ment, or, if you wish, you may take it upon yourself to switch with another person if they are
willing to do so. If you do agree to change, please notify the office so the bulletin will be cor-
rect.
Please come fifteen minutes early on the Sunday you serve. It is important that we know you are
there, and also it as well give you time to receive notes for announcements and other informa-
tion.
The office will update you with your scripture reading the week before your assigned Sunday.
Please read through this and become familiar with the passage. If there is an unfamiliar word
(this is highly likely), ask the speaker how they would pronounce it. It is helpful to synchronize
pronunciations in many cases. If you have further questions or a last minute change of plan,
“My father didn‟t tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.” ~Clarence Cleland

When a month has a 5th Sunday, there is a collection or the CUMC Compassion Fund. This fund is
used when a church member has an emergency need. There will be 5 Sundays in July.
Like father, like child. . . . .
As we celebrate Father‟s Day, we likely see traits in our dads (or other father figures) that we
hope to be known for ourselves: integrity, gentleness, a great sense of humor, a love of learning, a
humble spirit.
Amy Grant‟s song “Father‟s Eyes” tells of a young girl who wants nothing more than for oth-
ers to recognize her father — her heavenly Father — in her. “When people look inside my life, I
want to hear them say, „She‟s got her father‟s eyes.‟”
What characteristics of God your Father are reflected in your eyes, heart and life? And what
godly qualities would you like to cultivate? May others see our heavenly Father in us!
Page 6
Kudos this month go to: - Karen Mann & Chris Osborn for coordinating our LOL recycling
- Mike Murphy for his diligent support of the LOL meals by using his resources to get
food items
- Our CUMC Choir for a wonderful season of music
- Cicero Market for the donation of 25 pounds of meat for LOL
Chick Mix The children in the Dog Park are making Chick Mix Snack (Candy Corn and Peanuts or Plain Candy Corn).
Each bag is $1, and helps to purchase 1 chick for a family in Uganda. You will find them on the table across
from Byron‟s office.
RETURNING MISSION OPPORTUNITY We are again collecting books for the Bates land School in South Dakota. The children attending there are
mostly from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Their county is the second poorest in the nation. Books can
be any that are appropriate for grades Kindergarten through High School. Jo
and John Kidwell took a carload of books to them last year. We will be taking books to them again around
the first part of July this year. Checks can also be made out to Cicero United Methodist Church with a note
on the memo line to: Bates land School.
Any help is much appreciated. There is a box in the Narthex for books. God bless you!

Carl Joseph (C.J.) Veger is
the son of Janneane and Joe
Veger. He swam and played
baseball as a youngster in
Starke County, where he was
also active in 4-H. He and his
dog Sandy earned county 4-H
Grand Champion in Agility.
C.J. switched to tennis when he
moved back to Hamilton
County, and he hopes to coach
tennis at the high school level in
the future. After a trip to visit
his uncle in England this sum-
mer, C.J. will begin classes at
the Alexandria School of Thera-
peutic Sciences. Upon graduat-
ing from there, he will be eligi-
ble to be licensed by the State
as a massage therapist, which
he plans to pursue in order to
pay for a degree in education at
Ball State University to become
a history teacher.
Noah Brown, son of Tony &
Zonica Brown will be attending
Arizona State University in the
Fall of 2011. I will be studying
Religion my 1st year, and then
after that I may be studying Mu-
sic or some other career. I also
plan on minoring in Italian. I
have been swimming for too
many years to remember now at
my age. I have been attending
Cicero United Methodist Church
since I was born, so my mother
says. As far as a biography about
myself, well, my life hasn't been
too terribly exciting ever since I
started swimming. Before that, I
tried other sports and what not,
but when I figured out that I was
a good swimmer, my life went
that direction and has been going
that way ever since. I don't know
where I'd be if I hadn't swam in
the first place. What I do now is
swim, drum, and just enjoy life.
Like the quote I try to live by:
"Live everyday like it's your last.
Someday, you'll be right."
“Each dream in your heart lies
within reach if you just believe
in yourself.”
If You Believe Your diploma means a future without boundaries,
A world that's full of energy and fun.
So as you reach for all life has to offer,
Remember that you're second to no one.
Pursue your goals, yet keep your loved ones close,
As you utilize your talent and ambition.
Let your friends and family give you their support, And you'll master every challenging transition.
And always, (graduate's name), know you can achieve The things you really want, if you believe.

tion instructor at Indiana All-Star Driving
School in Noblesville.
Dear Lord,
Please bless these graduates
as they go out into the world
to make it a better place,
while they pursue their dreams.
Gently guide them, lead them,
show them Your way to success and happiness
through service to others,
as they maximize their own potential.
Fill them with joy when they reach their goals.
Strengthen them, as they deal with life's obstacles,
and show them that every challenge
is a path to character development.
Give them the intelligence
to make a plan for their futures.
Give them the patience and persistence
to pursue their ambitions.
Most of all, give them caring hearts
to look for ways to help the people they meet on their life's journey.
Encourage them and lift them up now, as they spread their wings
into a clear sky of limitless opportunity. Let each and every graduate here
be wrapped in the warmth of Your infinite love,
and let Your wisdom show them the way
to make the most of their lives.
In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. By Joanna Fuchs
Your Adventure Now that you've graduated,

Fresh Cut Flowers for the Sanctuary
There is nothing better than beautiful, fragrant flowers!
There have been many requests for fresh cut flowers in the Sanctuary for a special occasion or in honor or
memory of a loved one.
Here is the new procedure:
1. There will be a sign-up sheet for you to pick a date, and to specify the occasion.
2. You will need to call and arrange for the flowers to be designed and paid for. You can buy
anywhere you want and spend what you want.
3. Make sure the flowers are at the church by 8:30 am that Sunday.
I can't wait to see what beautiful arrangements you bring!
On days that no one signed up, we'll use the church's silk flowers.
~Jen Dunbar, worship committee/flowers
Shut-In Visitation Ministry There are slips of paper by the Care-a-Grams each week. Each one has the name and contact
information for one of our shut-ins. Please take one as often as possible and send a card, visit, or
call the person listed. Just sign the card “From your friends at CUMC” if you don‟t know the
person. We all know what a card or visit can do to brighten our day! Thank you.
Slow Down
Walk a little slower, Daddy, said a little child so small. I‟m following in your footsteps and I
don‟t want to fall.
Sometimes your steps are very fast; sometimes they‟re hard to see. So walk a little slower,
Daddy, for you are leading me.
Someday when I‟m all grown up, you‟re what I want to be. Then I will have a little child
who‟ll want to follow me.
And I would want to lead just right, and know that I was true; so walk a little slower, Daddy,
for I must follow you.
Unlikely Methods
“By faith the walls of Jericho fell after they had been encircled for seven days” (Hebrews 11:30, NSV).
What must Naaman have thought when Elisha prescribed a leprosy cure of washing seven times in the
muddy Jordan River (2 Kings 5)?
What must the disciples have thought when Jesus allowed himself to be crucified?
God seems to delight in using unlikely methods to accomplish his plans. Remember that when life doesn‟t
make sense or circumstances seem hopeless.
God‟s plans are rarely straight-forward or predictable. He‟s full of surprises. With a little faith and obedi-
ence, we will see God work in our lives too.
The CUMC Youth Group is travelling back in time to explore the beginning, when
God created the earth! They will be taking a trip the Creation Museum in Kentucky,
and they would like YOU to come along! We will be meeting at CUMC at 7:00 a.m.,
and will be returning between 3:30 & 4:00 p.m. Admission is $24.95, plus money for
snacks and whatever else you might want.

Quiet Space
“Rest is not idleness,” said John
Lubbock, “and to lie sometimes on the grass on
a summer day listening to the murmur of water
or watching clouds float across the sky is hardly
a waste of time.”
Most of us need more, not less, rest built
into our daily routine. Only when we are quiet
can we hear God‟s whisper.
Summer is a great time to find a peaceful,
outdoor spot to read, rest and pray — even if
only for a few minutes. God is eagerly waiting
for us to make space for Him.
