TRANSCRIPT
June 15th
Term 2, Week 10
We have an exciting new initiative ready to be rolled out in Term 3. Between 11:30
and 1pm on Fridays students will have the opportunity to participate in 2 electives of
their choosing each lasting for 45 minutes. They will do the same two electives for all
of Term 3.
Our aim is to give students a chance to participate in extracurricular areas not always
covered in normal classes and to engage and build on their strengths in the areas
that they love. This week a brochure will be posted on Xuno which outlines, briefly,
what each elective will offer. I ask that you discuss the options and guide your child/
ren in making their selections. Students will be asked to complete a preference sheet
and this will need to be handed to the classroom teacher by Monday, 22nd of June.
The electives offered include:
French * Drama & movie making
Marathon training * Library skills & chess
Geography * Extension Maths/Lego
Hands on Learning * Coding
Publishing – online newspaper
Students are not guaranteed to get their first or second preference as it will depend
on the popularity of some of the electives, however I hope that they will get one of
their top 3 choices. Students who don’t get their first or second preference in Term 3
will be given priority in Term 4. I will notify students of their electives for Term 3 by the
last day of Term 2.
Another exciting event that we have begun working on is our bi-annual production.
This is an amazing student led event and in 2020 it will occur with a twist! Due to the
pandemic we have decided that it will be made into a movie. If restrictions lift, we
will have some movie screenings but if restrictions are tightened, then we will produce
a movie that can be watched at home!
A reminder that reports will be posted on Xuno on Friday 26th for Cycle 3 and Parent
Teacher interviews will be conducted next week. These are able to be booked on
Xuno or call the school office.
Parent Reminders
Please ensure unwell children stay away from school.
Restricted entry to school for non-essential visitors will be enforced.
Please respect the safe drop off zone where you can say goodbye.
No Assemblies until further notice.
Café and Choir will resume in Term Three.
SAKGP will resume on June 9th, but will only be creating individual
foods, no shared platters.
Intervention Learning will resume in week 10.
Private music lessons can resume in week 10.
Welcome to Foundation 2021
We are currently in the enrolment period for 2021 Foundation students.
We have had many enquiries , and have already received a large number
of enrolments.
We want to extend a very warm welcome to the new families joining our
community next year, and hope that you enjoy our weekly newsletter.
Existing families with new siblings - It is exciting to see the next member of
the family joining us!
If you are still considering which school your pre-schooler will attend, please
feel free to contact our Principal, Kath Tanner on 5568 1051 for a chat.
Parent Financial Statements
Financial statements will be emailed to each family in the last week of term.
These will show the outstanding amount for those families who have chosen
to pay their parent contributions in instalments.
For those who are making Centrepay payments, it will show how much has
been received and what remains to be covered.
The half yearly instalment of the 2020 Parent Contributions will be
processed on Friday 17th July 2020.
Please call Jenni or Kath if you have any queries/concerns.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Just a reminder that our Parent Teacher Interviews will be conduct next
week, beginning Tuesday 23rd June.
Please refer to Xuno for your childs teacher timetable, and to make a
booking for your interview. You do have the option of either doing this
interview in person or through Webex.
Early Collection of Children
A reminder also that if you are collecting your child prior to 3.30pm it is a
requirement to have this authorised, in writing. Currently due to COVID-19
we will accept this via email, or a note brought in to the office by your
child. Alternatively upon coming to school to collect your child you may
come in to the office sign the collection authority and we can have your
child brought to the office rather than you going in to the classroom.
Additionally, if your child arrives at school after 9am it is considered a late
arrival. As such we need to have a late arrival slip signed by the parent
with an explanation, so that we can adjust the roll accordingly.
Please come to the office with your child, complete and sign the late
arrival slip and the child must then take it to their classroom teacher.
Head Lice
Parents / Guardians please be aware that the school has detected head
lice and we ask that you please check your children's hair. If necessary the
school may conduct checks.
Foundation - 2 :
In the F-2 classes we have all settled back in to the normal routines
that come with being back at school. We have been learning to
write procedures throughout the last fortnight and will continue
our writing with a focus on information reports. In Reading we
have been focusing on the comprehension strategy of finding the
main idea. In Maths this week we are learning about sharing
collections of objects equally and solving simple division problems.
Sounds Write is still happening within our own classes at this stage.
Grade 3 - 6 :
We are so happy to see all students back at school with huge
smiles on their faces. All 3-6 staff have been very pleased with how
students have handled themselves with the transition back to
school life. Students have responded to the new ‘normal’ of
temperature testing and drop-off zones really well. A reminder, if
there are still any medications or classroom equipment at home,
please return ASAP.

LAST DAY
OF TERM 2
2:30 Finish
It was so wonderful to have everyone back for PE classes this week. There was lots of
running, smiles, laughter and huffing and puffing! The F-2’s got to practice their throwing
catching and bouncing skills with some brightly coloured “Rainbow Dragon eggs”. They
had to keep them close and look after them so they didn’t hatch in the middle of class!
The year 3-6’s consolidated their remote learning and got stuck into Soccer skills and
games.
There has been some amazing virtual cross country running over the last week as well.
Congratulations to those students that have challenged themselves and had a go;
Lucas Harper, Harrison, Charlie and Bailey Stenhouse, Charlotte and Buddy Artis, Corey
Else, Charlie Green, Isaiah and Patrick Murphy. Well done to you all, I’ve seen some
results posted on the School Sport Victoria website, very impressive!
If you and your family would like to walk, jog or run our school course and join in the
challenge, our course is below and the link for recording your results in the virtual cross
country is:
https://www.ssv.vic.edu.au/Pages/VirtualCrossCountry.aspx
KEY: YELLOW = 1.5km lap RED = 1km lap GREEN = Start/Finish
3km course, complete two laps of the yellow course (turn off Ocean Drive back into

Virtual Cross Country
While there has been much excitement
around the return to school, most students
will also be feeling some apprehension and
worry. During times of change, it is normal
and expected for anxiety and worry to
temporarily rise returning to school after an extended period of
time away, and particularly during these uncertain times of
COVID-19, may be challenging for students (and parents!).
You may notice some of the signs in your young person during
the lead-up and first few weeks of return to school:
Tearfulness
Clinginess
Increased acting out: tantrums, fights with siblings, answering
back to parents
Complaints about headaches/stomach aches
Irritability
Withdrawal or disinterest in usual activities or friendships
Talking more and asking more questions about COVID/school
Focussing more on the negative aspects of life
Tips for supporting your young person to return:
Encourage and reassure: talk about times when you or your
young person has pushed through and done something
difficult. How did you/they feel during it, and afterwards?
Normalise fears and worries, talk about some of your own
worries and what you do to positively cope (i.e. positive self-
talk, exercise, talk to a friend). Model these positive coping
strategies in front of your young person.
Encourage your young person to talk about their fears and
problem solve with them how to manage them.
Continued …
When a young person is focussed on the negatives of school,
ask them what they are looking forward to, search for the
small but important things they like about school (e.g. snack
time, art, chatting with friends).
Praise small steps for returning to school – tell them you are
proud of them for being brave.
Have the parent who is better at encouraging attendance to
take your young person to school.
Within COVID restrictions, team up with other parents/kids to
support each other and motivate your young person to get
to school.
Ask your young person where they feel the stress in their bod-
ies. Then get them to breathe a calming breath into that
spot, and then breathe the stress out. Repeat!
Sipping water and/or chewing something crunchy (like a car-
rot) on the way to school can help re-focus anxious minds.
Play a game to distract on the way to school: how many
things can you see that are green or that start with the letter
T? What 10 things would you take with you on a trip to Mars?
Find something small (like a pebble) to keep in their pocket to
remind them that they are safe and loved while at school.
Strong will, determination, and persistence are all important
qualities for parents to maintain.
I am available Thursdays and Fridays if you feel your young
person needs some extra support.
