VENUEThe 2016 Weipa Fishing Classic will be held at the Western Cape College Grounds. The Committee seeks co-operation from all competitors and attendees to respect the College grounds, buildings and facilities at all times.

The Western Cape College is a SMOKE FREE venue.

VENUE OPENING AND CLOSING TIMESThe venue will be open at the following times: Friday, 10th June, 2016 from 5.30pm to midnightSaturday, 11th June, 2016 from 4.00pm to midnightSunday, 12th June, 2016 from 4.00pm to midnight

ALCOHOLPatrons are advised that if alcohol is consumed at the venue, it must be done so responsibly. Bar facilities will operate during these times at the discretion of the Weipa Fishing Classic Event Management, who also have the right to refuse service of alcohol and remove people from the event. It is illegal to bring alcohol onto the grounds, and patrons should be advised that police and security will be present throughout the entire weekend. There will be mandatory BAG SEARCHES upon entry to the grounds. 18+ ID required at entry to the event. Wristbands will be fitted to 18+ patrons on entry to the grounds. All patrons MUST have wristbands to purchase, hold or consume alcohol.

FISHING GROUNDSInclude all the waters within and offshore waters adjacent to Albatross Bay and Port Musgrave.

Alcohol management plans exist for the Mapoon and Napranum communities. Please ensure you are familiar with the alcohol restrictions which apply.

ALCOHOL RESTRICTIONSRestrictions on the type and quantity of liquor that can be brought into various remote Indigenous communities have been implemented in Queensland. Alcohol Management Plans are developed by Community Justice Groups and contain recommendations for declaring all or part of a community area, a restricted area and/or a dry place. To download legislation documents, brochures and forms relating to Liquor Licensing go to the Queensland Government’s Liquor Licencing Division website at www.liquor.qld.gov.au/our products/brochures.

ALCOHOL LICENCING INFORMATION• U18’s will only be permitted inside the licenced area if they are under

the direct supervision of a parent or an adult with parental rights and responsibilities. U18’s are not permitted to consume alcohol anywhere on the Western Cape College grounds.

• BYO alcohol is not permitted. Security will be on duty throughout the weekend. Bags & esky’s will be searched on entry to the grounds.

• 18+ ID required at entry to the event. Wristbands will be fitted to 18+ patrons on entry to the grounds. All patrons MUST have wristbands to purchase, hold or consume alcohol.

• Alcohol cannot be consumed outside of the licenced area, which will be clearly identified with barricade and signage.

following Liquor Licencing Laws, to allow us to provide a safe, fun and friendly environment for all.

Grounds open at 5.30pm on Friday, June 10th, 2016. The theme of the Weipa Fishing Classic is FAMILY, FISHING and FUN, encouraging family participation and attendance.

CATCH AND WEIGH - OPENThere are 9 eligible species for the open competition: King Salmon, Fingermark, Tusker, Grunter, Mackerel, Coral Trout, Reef Fish (Red Emperor & Nannygai), Jew Fish and Barramundi only.

CATCH AND RELEASE - OPENThere are 2 eligible species for the catch and release open competition: Trevally and Queenfish only.

CATCH AND RELEASE BILLFISH - OPENMust have a digital camera with the time and date and be able to produce photos with the fish at the side of the boat with the capture card visible in the photo. Billfish are counted as one point per fish. This is a two day event and highest total score for the two days will be the winner. In the event of a tie, the angler that reached the highest score first wins. All fish must be released in the best possible condition. Under no circumstances will any billfish be weighed. You will be automatically disqualified. Photos must be presented by the finish of weigh-in on Sunday. Capture cards will be available after the reading of the rules on Friday night.

CATCH AND WEIGH - JUNIOR5 eligible species for Juniors (12 years and under) competition: King Salmon, Blue Salmon, Bream, Grunter and Barramundi. Junior ticket holders can only compete in the junior section. Competitors 12 years old and under CAN purchase an open ticket & compete in either open or junior category - but NOT both.

CATCH AND RELEASE - JUNIORThere is one eligible species for the catch and release junior competition: Queenfish only.

WEIPA (HUMBUG POINT) - TIMES AND HEIGHTS OF HIGH AND LOW WATERS

WEIGH INCommences on Saturday, 11th June, 2016 and Sunday 12th June, 2016 starting at 4.30pm and finishes at approx 5.30pm.Competitors must be in the queue for weigh-in no later than 5.30pm on either day to be eligible for the individual species prizes, and overall species prizes. In the event of a tie the first weighed or sighted by the Weigh Master will be deemed the winner. You MUST present your competition number (KEY RING) when weighing or presenting (photo for Queenfish or Trevally) in your fish. No other species other than the specified target species will be weighed. or registered.If competitors are presenting fish that will obviously not be heavier than the current third place weight in that category, they will be encouraged to register their catch at a separate registration point. The intent of this is to reduce the amount of time people have to wait in line and reduce the number of unnecessary weigh ins for the weigh master. No entrant will be able to claim more than one prize for a category as an overall winner. Saturday winners will still be able to win a prize in the same category as an overall winner on Sunday.

2016 COMPETITION RULES

• Fishing times commence Friday the 10th June at Midnight (2400 hours).

• State of Federal Legislation on fish size and catch numbers must be adhered to by all competitors.

• Only fish in the nominated categories that conform to the competitions specific sizes will be allowed to be weighed in or registered.

• Prizes will be awarded for 1st in each category on Saturday and 1st, 2nd & 3rd for each category on Sunday. The exception to this will be for Billfish which will have a 1st and 2nd on Sunday only.

• If a Junior with an Open ticket weighs a fish in on the Saturday, they can only weigh in a fish in that same category (Junior or Open) the next day.

• In the event of a tie the first fish weighed, sighted, (photo for Queenfish and Trevally) by the Weigh Master will be deemed the winner.

• The Weipa Fishing Classic Scales will be the official scales for the event. The Weigh Masters decision will be final.

• Catch and Weigh - Nine eligible species for the Open competition: King Salmon, Fingermark, Tusker, Grunter, Mackerel, Reef Fish (Red Emperor, Nannygai), Coral Trout, Jewfish and Barramundi only. Heaviest fish in all categories except for Barra and Jewfish. For Barra, the heaviest fish between 58 & 80 cm. For Jewfish, the heaviest fish between 60 & 90 cm.

• Catch and Release - Trevally and Queenfish (separate categories for

each) – Open competition – length of fish. Only photos of live fish will be accepted. Must have a photo of the fish with the capture card and measurement visible in the photo. Measuring device has to be a recognised Brag Mat or a Tackelworld measurement sticker. Queenfish or Trevally will not be accepted in the competition if they are presented to the weigh station. Brag Matts and Tackleworld measurement stickers are available for purchase at the merchandise tent. Capture cards will be available at the merchandise tent after the reading of the rules.

• Lucky Draw prize - Competitors weighing in fish (in the nominated categories that comply with the competitions specific sizes) in the Open Competition will be eligible to go in 2 prize draws. One will be for a $4,000 TJM Voucher and the other will be for a (to be confirmed). One entry per person.

• Fishing Grounds include all the waters within and offshore waters adjacent to Albatross Bay and Port Musgrave.

• Fish presented to the scales must :• Be gutted and gilled (Including

Mackerel)• Be in good condition• Be taken on a rod and reel or handline• Conform to the competitions specified

sizes and categories to be eligible for weigh-in or registration of catch.

• Fish may be iced down, but not frozen

MAJOR PRIZE DRAWSThe competition is limited to 2,200 competitors. The final major prize draw will comprise of 30 lucky competitors who have been drawn out over the weekend. Ten competitor’s numbers will be drawn on Friday night between 7.30pm and 9.30pm. A further 15 competitors will be drawn between 7pm and 8.30pm on Saturday night. The final five competitor’s numbers will be drawn between 6.30pm and 7.00pm Sunday. At the competitor draws, the competitor or a proxy (holding the competitor’s ticket) must be present at each draw. The competitors or a proxy will be given two minutes for major prize draws to present to the stage with their ticket. If not in attendance further number/s will be drawn prior to the major draw to complete the 30 places. A full list of the 30 major draw prizes will be made available at the official opening on Friday night.

RANDOM DRAWSRandom draws for daily prizes will take place throughout each night’s activities; the competitor and their ticket must be in attendance to claim the prize. Competitors will be given one minute for random prize draw to present to the stage with their ticket. No proxies for daily random prizes will be accepted.

Radio Club Band is based in South East Queensland and is one of the most sought-after bands In the Brisbane area. Club Band members have toured all over the world from the Tokyo Hilton in Japan, the Jumeirah Hotel Group in Dubai, through to Greenwich Village in New York.Radio Club Band have both male and female singers and musicians who play a variety and at times, multiple instruments. Band members have played with some of the world’s best performers.Radio Club Band plays a variety of music from their extensive repertoire. All you have to do is relax, have fun

and enjoy! They are experienced in working at large events. Many members of the team have worked on numerous concerts across the nation, including high profile special events such as Mazda, Carlton United Breweries and the Grand Prix Corporation, as well as festivals such as Woodford, Rhythm & Blues (Byron Bay) and the Port Fairy Folk Festival.The band played at the 2014 & 2015 Weipa Fishing Classic’s, and Radio Club Bands versatility and enthusiasm will ensure that this years Classic is another huge success.

ENTERTAINMENTPop Standen Trio

This well travelled trio have played together more than 70 times up and down the east coast from Sydney to Cairns. They recently returned from 20 shows in 28 days from Esperance to Broome.Phil Emmanuel has been at the top of the guitarist ladder for more than 40 years, playing all over the world with some of the best in the business.Saxophonist Dave Hoffmann is the latest edition to the trio. Dave has performed in various festivals and played in many bands from a young age and his style fits perfectly into this mix.Pop Standen a relatively new comer to the music business, 10 years new - and is the rhythm and voice behind this trio. Pop’s voice and driving rhythm, bring all the original songs together for a foot tapping, heel kicking blend of Country Rock Swingin Blues experience.
