PRINCIPALrsquoS REPORT

As is often the case at this time of year this edition is one of great celebration

Year 12 Community Concert One of the great traditions of Year 12 farewelling their school is that they design a concert to perform to

family and other members of our local community It is a moment where our students move the focus from themselves and direct it towards the community they are about to enter The performances at the 2017 concert were absolutely fantastic and I would like to include the note from one of our attendees who emailed me that same afternoon to express her gratitude

Dear Mr Ross Warren

We would like to thank you for inviting us to your Seniors Community Concert The residents (and staff) had a lovely time

We would like to congratulate you and the amazing students on a wonderful morning The talent of the students was incredible we were quite moved by many of the performances and were very impressed Everyone should feel very proud We wish them all the very best in their future endeavours

Kind regards Sue Morton Diversional Therapy Department Christian Brethren Community Services Cherrybrook Christian Care Centre

Year 12 Aboriginal Studentsrsquo Graduation Our Prime Ministerrsquos Closing the Gap Report 2017 states ldquoThere is no doubt that a good education unlocks opportunities later in life Children ready to learn when they first walk through the school gates are more likely to thrive throughout their school years Education is fundamental to unlocking the potential of future generations ndash whether through higher education employment or starting a businessrdquo

Therefore it was both very rewarding and important to take the opportunity this week to celebrate the graduation of our Aboriginal students who have completed Year 12

We welcomed Mrs Ros Fogg a parent and proud Darug woman to provide an extremely relevant Welcome to Country and our own English Teacher Mr Owen Belling spoke very articulately about the significance of these studentsrsquo graduation This was followed by a small presentation of the book In Plain View by myself to our graduates Dakota Emmi and Tyson Well done

Year 12 Graduation Farewell Assembly amp Formal Tuesday evening saw the Graduation assembly of the Class of 2017 Mr Paul Toohey their Year

Adviser gave a most humorous and endearing speech to his cohort of graduates and the Year 12 students responded magnificently

As written in the previous edition of Jumbunna our Year 12 students will be remembered for their great commitment and dedication to Pennant Hills High School In my farewell speech at their Graduation I told them to ldquohelliphold tight onto that line that is lifelong education not necessarily in a formal sense but be courageous as you leave Pennant Hills High School knowing that you have the skills and character to contribute positively to our communityrdquo

Wednesday night saw the culmination of our Year 12rsquos program with their highly anticipated formal which was held at Cockle Bay Wharf Darling Harbour The evening was superb and our students looked and behaved magnificently Congratulations Year 12 on the completion of a busy and productive term

I would sincerely like to thank Mr Toohey for his massive contribution to the successful conclusion to schooling for the Class of 2017 It was very much appreciated by the students and indeed myself I know he would also like me to thank his band of supporters including our Deputy Principals Head Teachers Teachers and a massive contribution by our Administrative support team Year 12rsquos final events both formal and informal were a success because of the combined efforts of everyone involved

NSW CHS Athletics Championships Finally it is with great pride and excitement that I am able to announce that we have again been crowned the Champion School in the State at the NSW CHS Athletics Championships in 2017

An amazing way to finish Term 3 I wish all of our students staff and their families a rejuvenating holiday and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday 9 October for the commencement of another very busy Term 4

Year 11 Geography Excursion In August Year 11 Geography visited the Gibberagong Environmental Education Centre for a Biophysical Interaction excursion where they studied the four spheres Atmosphere Biosphere Hydrosphere and Lithosphere and the interactions between each of them

The students were keen to walk through the tracks at the Ku-ring-gai National Park and investigate the soils and water quality as well as using their geographical skills to sketch the local area Our expert guide from the EEC guided us around the mangroves and the dry sclerophyll forest discussing how each sphere interacts with one another A good lesson for Year 11 students and revision for their Geography preliminary examination Well done to all students who attended the excursion
