Principal’s Message

Recently I sent home information regarding our bushfire procedures. Attached to the procedures was a note requesting updated contact details. Importantly, on this note I asked you to indicate who could pick up your child in the event we evacuate due to a bushfire emergency. It is very concerning that fewer than half of these notes have been returned. Please return them as soon as possible. 2017 Placement Requests 2017 planning will commence shortly. Parents may make requests for special consideration for placement for 2017. A special request form is only available from the office. Requests from parents will only be considered if they are on the form and it is submitted by 4th November 2016. Please note it is not possible to request a particular teacher. Whilst all requests with substantial grounds for the request will be considered, the final decision will be based upon the professional judgement of the teaching staff. Requests will not be considered after 4th November 2016.

Christmas Craft Day This year we are going to hold a K-6 Christmas craft day on Monday 12th December, where students make a craft

item to keep. Volunteers are needed to help us run a craft workshop for around 10 students. If you are interested in volunteering to take a group please get a registration form from the office.

Please let the office know as soon as possible if you are moving or changing schools next year as we currently have to project our anticipated numbers for 2017. Our student numbers determine our staffing allocations and planning. Thank you! Philippa Young Principal Deputy Principal’s Message Day for Daniel Thank you to all students for supporting Day for Daniel, an awareness raising activity that focuses on children’s safety. Classes discussed strategies for personal safety such as:

• Tell someone where you are going and what time you will be home

• Recognise your body clues • React if you feel scared or confused • Report any unsafe situations to a trusted

adult The safe use of the internet was also discussed in some classes. Important internet safety tips such as:

• Set your profile to private on all social media sites

• Never give out your address or telephone number without your parent’s permission

• Do not accept a ‘friend’ request from people you do not know

Grandparents Day There will be a celebration for Grandparents Day on 8th December at Wirreanda. This is approximately 5 weeks away and gives families extended notice in which to invite grandparents to Wirreanda for a wonderful day of activities (with a special, secret surprise at the end!). There is more information about the celebration of our Grandparents on the flier below. Volunteer’s Lunch This year we will be thanking parents and community volunteers with a special lunch at Wirreanda on 8th December. Invitations will be sent home in Week 5. If you have volunteered at school this year and have not received your invitation by the end of Week 5, please contact the school. This year the Volunteer Thank You Lunch and Grandparents Day will be combined as one celebration.

Swim School Swim School continues this week until Friday. Reports from the teachers indicate that the students have put in a really determined effort to improve their swimming skills. Thanks must go to Ms Shearer and Mr Erickson for accompanying the students and for taking groups in the pool. Attention All Classes! Who likes icy poles? Would you like your whole class to win one? It’s easy! Bring your Bushfire Emergency Contact Information form into the school office. At the Week 5 Monday morning assembly, Mrs Wilson is going to announce the class that has brought back the largest number of Bushfire Emergency Information forms. This class will receive an icy pole for each member of the class….and the class teacher of course.

Cup of the Week Mrs Wilson presented the Cup of the Week to 1D in Week 4. 1D was commended for their confidence while Ms Wasson was relieving as class teacher. Mrs Carey awarded the Cup of the Week to 3G this week. It has been noticeable that 3G are very organised and ready to learn as soon as they arrive to class. Congratulations to both classes. Regards Sue Wilson Deputy Principal Christmas Collection to support Samaritans In 2016 we would like to support those families in our community who may need help to make Christmas brighter. A small donation of non-perishable food and items could make a massive difference to someone’s Christmas this year. Each class will have a small box, and we are asking students in each class to bring in non-perishable items to fill the box. The donations will be collected for November only. Suggestions are: cereal, long-life milk, pasta, pasta sauces, rice, tinned meals, soup (packet or tin), baked beans, spaghetti, tea, coffee, lunchbox snacks, tinned fruit, tinned vegetables, spreads, tinned tuna etc Pet food & supplies Nappies, baby wipes, toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, shaving gear, toiletry bags, moisturiser, hand wash, washing powder, bathroom or kitchen cleaning products. We would appreciate any assistance you may be able to give. + 2 extra volunteers needed please Our Term 4 Lunch Special is proving popular. “Chicken Finger Salad Box” 4 chicken goujons, a side salad and 200ml juice box (apple, orange or apple/blackcurrant) with a small gift. $3.00 Everyone who orders the lunch special will go into the draw to win a lunch box filled with yummy and healthy treats. There is one prize for each year K-6, so be in it to win it! It is a very busy time of year and many students are utilising the canteen therefore we need more volunteers. If you have a few hours or a day to spare we would appreciate your help. Each time you volunteer, your name goes into the draw for a prize. Last Thursday at our afternoon tea, Christine Jones’ name was drawn as the Term 3 winner. Congratulations and thank you. Many thanks to Medowie Meats for donating the Term 3 major prize and The Sportz Café for their support. Another reminder for lunch orders to be handed in to the Canteen BEFORE school starts please. Years 1-6 need to bring their own lunch bag to the canteen to collect any pre-ordered drinks etc.
