Summer Fruit (Continued)

It may seem insignificant to some, but John Coca’s presence is truly felt at HFTF’s Church Without Walls. John began drinking at the tender age of twenty-two. During his youth he worked as a carpenter. He is now fifty-eight years old. He has been married for 26 years and has three grown children, two sons and one daughter, and one granddaughter. He has been coming to service at Hope for about two years. In that time Pastor Diane had consist-ently ministered to him about getting sober, and encouraging him to stop the drinking. “You were meant for more than this!” Through the power of prayer and the Holy Spirit working on John every Wednesday and Saturday, as he heard the word of God preached, and saw it in action, it hit him! He was made for more than this! He accepted Jesus as his Savior and in his words, “I woke up to live another day!” He has been sober since Valentine’s Day of 2016. Today he tells us he looks forward to seeing the team, and to coming out for the services and outreaches. He is always encouraged by the services in the Park. His family is so glad that he has stopped drinking. To-day he gladly serves at HFTF, helping us clean and sweep up the park after each feeding. It may seem like an insignificant thing to some, but to us it manifests the heart and power of God, and the significance of every life in the Kingdom! It is through your faithful, diligent support that we continue to see the power a changed life can bring. Ω

A Word From The Pastor’s Desk Dear Friends, As we approach the end of our 29th anniversary and enter our 30th year at HFTF some have asked me, “How are you able to do this for so many years?” I must confess I have had seasons of distress and weariness, unforeseen trials, and I have had my share of disappointments and heartaches! But I have learned to trust God for everything, including the strength to get up and carry

on another day! The Psalmist tells us in 27:13-14 “I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord (KJV): be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. (NIV)” God knows I have experienced that overwhelming tiredness that says, “Give it up!”

But, any time I hear the word “wait” I think of the encouraging scripture in Isaiah 40:31. “Those who wait on (hope in) the Lord will renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles: they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.” To wait means ‘to hope, look for, to look eagerly for.”

To the casual reader this might give the impression of waiting at a bus stop, or in a doctor’s office. Not so. This is an active not a passive waiting. It also means to bind together by twisting, as in the twining to-gether the strands of a rope. One strand by itself doesn’t have the strength to do what the collective strands of a rope can do. By myself I can do nothing! When I come to that place of growing weary, fainting, wanting to give up, God gives me the example of how to renew and change my present condition. God doesn’t get tired! He doesn’t grow weary. He doesn’t get short of breath. And HE DOES NOT FAINT! And He promis-es to give power and increase the strength of those who have no might within themselves. Isaiah says that even the strongest will get faint and weary. But, the process of being renewed is to “wait” on the Lord. What does it mean to wait on God? It is “to bind together” with Him. It is actively pursuing His presence, to find His goodness, and His Word. It means to enter into an interaction, a journey of intimacy with Him. That’s the binding, twisting effect. That leads us to the mounting up action of the eagle, the ascension to heavenly heights. It’s in that high place Christ has called us to. Its’ in that place we have a perspective that shows us the whole picture of our present condition. That’s how we become strong and take heart.

To look back and take inventory of HFTF’s history, along with my personal walk with God, I surely would have fainted! But I have learned to wrap myself up in the Father’s strength! That’s where I find ac-ceptance, love, strength, an eternal perspective that gives me the courage to get up again and soar!

Thank you for your continued support, especially during these summer months. You have joined with us in prayer, labor, and financial support, and you have made the difference in many lives! May God richly bless and keep you and yours, and may you truly know what it is to soar like an eagle with renewed strength!

Sincerely in His Service, Pastor Diane Dunne
