Pond Party
Tuesday, July 7; 11 am–Noon
What's swimming underneath the surface of Crowder's
Pond? Explore the animals that call this habitat home
in a hands-on pond study. Learn about the aquatic
food chain and play "macroinvertebrate mayhem"!
Then make a pond craft to take home.
Fantastic Frogs
Tuesday, August 4; 11 am–Noon
Did you know a group of frogs is called an army and
a group of toads is called a knot? Learn more froggy
fun facts through trivia games and activities! Discover
the differences and similarities between frogs and
toads and see if you can leap as far as a cricket frog!
Slow Moving Creatures
Tuesday, September 15; 11 am–Noon
Did you know some snails can live up to be 15 years
old? Come explore these slow moving creatures and
more! Learn about slugs, snails and all slimy bugs
through hands-on science experiments. Go on a
habitat hike to search for these animals in action
and make a fun craft to take home.

Crowder By Night
Family programs that explore the park at night.
For all ages; fee: $5/Family or $3/Person.

Moth Party! Friday, July 31; 7:30–8:30 pm
On any given summer night, hundreds
of moths are on the wing in North
Carolina. A park naturalist will attempt to attract as
many as possible using light and a recipe of fermented
fruit and sugar. Learn about moths, how they are
important to the ecosystem and make a craft!
S’mores Summer Fun Friday, August 28; 7:30–8:30 pm
Spend one of the last evenings of the summer by
creating memories while enjoying America's favorite
summertime treat: S'mores! We'll share campfire
stories as we eat the perfect combination of pure milk
chocolate, crisp graham crackers and gooey
marshmallows goodness.
Twilight Critters Friday, September 25; 7:30–8:30 pm
The sun is close to setting and new critters can be
seen scurrying about! Learn about crepuscular
wildlife through games, crafts and hands on
discovery and how and why these animals love
this unique time between day and night.
Family Features
These are great programs for families who are on the go during the week, but
don't want to miss out on the park experience. For all ages; fee: $5/Family,

Sun Power Sunday, July 12
2–3 pm
Harness the power of the sun
with the whole family! Cook a
snack using a solar cooker, use the
rays in an art project and learn the
importance of the sun in our
ecosystem. Make sure you
wear sun screen!
Life Under a Log Sunday, August 15
2–3 pm
What do you see under a fallen
tree? Lots of decomposers at work
and other critters looking for a
dark, cool place to rest. We’ll
search for spiders, slugs and bugs
and learn how important rot, or
decomposition, is in nature
Take A Child Outside
TACO week is a program developed by
the North Carolina Museum of Natural
Sciences to get children outdoors to
discover the natural world around them.
The goal of TACO week is to help
children to understand and appreciate
the environment in which they live
and to have fun exploring nature!
To Weather a Storm Sunday, September 27; 2-3 pm
Become a junior meteorologist!
Through science experiments and
real weather monitoring, learn the
when, where and why of rain,
tornadoes and hurricanes.

Pond Stroll
Wednesday, July 8; 11 am–Noon
Do you know what’s living underneath the water?
Dip into the pond and explore the critters that can be
found hiding in the plants or right under the surface.
Explore a variety of bugs including water striders,
frogs, beetles and minnows and their neat adaptations!
Frog and Toad
Wednesday, August 5; 11 am–Noon
Dry, wet, bumpy or smooth; frogs and toads are
more different than you might think! Learn the life
cycle and their cool adaptations. Then go on a habitat
hike as we search for these amazing amphibians.
Snails, Slugs and Slimy Things
Wednesday, September 16; 11 am–Noon
Slide on down to the park to learn about one of our
slimiest friends in nature. Explore how our sticky
friends move, search for their hiding spots & observe
our garden friends in action. Then our slimy friends
will help us out in a fun craft!
Around the Pond
Wednesday, July 8; 1–2 pm
Many animals and insects live in the pond! Read
"Around the Pond" by Lindsay Barrett George and
discover what animals can be found there. Make a
pond collage craft with all of your favorite animals.
Then peek into the water as we explore the critters
that are swimming in Crowder's pond.
Froggie Babies
Wednesday, August 5; 1–2 pm
Hop or leap on down to discover the frogs and toads
of the park. Read "Froggie Babies" by Suzanne Farrior
and make a froggy craft. Practice your jumping skills,
learn to ribbit like your favorite amphibian and
examine the differences between frogs and toads.
Snail’s Spell
Wednesday, September 16; 1–2 pm
Snails leave a slimy, sticky trail wherever they go.
Read "A Snail's Spell" by Joanne Ryder and search
for snail hiding places. Observe these slow-moving
critters up close and their squishy slimy bodies.
Then have a tasty snack!
Nature Friends
Explore the natural world through hikes, nature
activities, outdoor exploration, games and crafts.
Meet at the Park Pavilion. For ages 6-9. Fee: $4/Child
or $10 for 3 NF programs. Preregistration is required.

discover the natural world through stories, hands-on nature

develop your fine motor skills
through games and hands on
activities. Then go on a nature
hunt to find plants and
animals of different shapes.
Senses in Nature Monday , August 3
10:30–11 am
Squish, touch and feel your way
through center-based activities
as we explore our senses. Make
a smelly painting and splash
in our sink/float bucket.
ABCs in Nature Monday , September 14
10:30–11 am
Practice your ABC's and develop
your fine motor skills through
games and hands-on activities.
Play a letter game and go on
a scavenger hunt.
Tiny Tots
A half-hour weekday program for children ages 18 months to 3 years old,
with an accompanying adult; fee: $2/child. Preregistration is required.

Polliwogs Summer Camp
This summer, Crowder District Park is offering three drop-off mini camps for preschoolers ages 4-5.
Camps offer your preschooler hands-on nature activities including visits with live animals, hikes, crafts, games,
and more. Each camp offers a different theme. There will be two adult staff with the kids at all times. Kids bring
their own snacks. Preregistration is required. Camp size is capped at 16, so sign up early! Fee: $36/child.
TREES
Tuesday–Thursday, June 23–25; 9 am–Noon
Big and tall, short and small, trees come in all shapes and sizes. You will be so amazed at
what trees do for our Earth! Discover the parts of the tree and go on a scavenger hunt.
Then help us plant a flower to help feed the butterflies and bees of the park. FULL
WATER
Tuesday–Thursday, July 21–23; 9 am–Noon
Where does our water come from and why is it important? Learn about the water cycle, and
explore the critters that live in and around the pond. Prepare to get wet as we splash
around and learn about this important resource! FULL
ANIMALS
Tuesday–Thursday, August 11–13; 9 am–Noon
Join us this week as we explore the animals that live in the park. Collect bugs,
slugs and other slimy critters and learn about their habitat.
Then meet “Popcorn”, our corn snake and other reptiles. FULL
