Activities of SSSST, Chitrakoot during July-September 2010
English Language training programme – 1st July – 4th September Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust (SSSST) collaborated with Speak well enterprises limited, Kanpur in conducting Spoken English and Personality Development Program (PDP) for the trust staff at Chitrakoot. The academy trainer Ms. Prerna tiwari and the head Mrs. Kirti Malhotra conducted the program dealing with various soft skills to enhance the personality development and, that can enable the team at Sadguru compete with the rest of the world. A total of 123 staff of the trust got benefited from the programme. 10th July- Inauguration of ‘Tele Ophthalmology’ services at Karwi Vision Center SSSST has inaugurated the service in order to make eye care services accessible to all strata of the population; with the rapid progress in the field of telecommunication, Teleophthalmology is fast becoming one of the preferred means of access for patients needing eye care this concept has came into existence on 10th of July at Karwi Vision center.
11th July- CME on ‘Follow up of Diabetic patient’ Dr. Alok Sen was invited to deliver a lecture on ‘Follow up of Diabetic patient’ at a CME organized by National association of India for community ophthalmology (NAICO) held on 11th of July 2010 at Deen Bhandhu Eye Hospital,Ayodhya. System observation visit of Sitapur Eye Hospital team: 17th & 18th July Dr. Madhu Bhadauria and Col. Ranbir Singh Bhadauria of Sitapur Eye Hospital (SEH) visited Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya on exposure visit. The team spent two days in observing the programs of the SNC including the Vision Center managed by SNC. The aim of visit was to observe clinical systems, understanding the management of seasonal imbalance/ management information systems and systems for performing high volume surgeries. The team was very much appreciative of SNC’s work and the brainstorming sessions focused on reviving the Sitapur Hosptial back to its golden era. Dr. Madhu Bhadauria, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Sitapur Eye Hospital invited the SNC team to visit the hospital for systems evaluation andensure development of plan for capacity building. 17th and 18th July - Hospital Based Program on Peadiatric Ophthalmology Two days Hospital Based Program on ‘Peadiatric Ophthalmology’ was organized on 17th & 18th July, 2010 by Peadiatric Unit of SSSST. Dr. Sobhi Pandey from Kanpur gave hands on training and delivered lecture to Ophthalomologists of Pediatric Dept. 5th - 7th August 2010 - Hospital Based Program on Peadiatric Ophthalmology
Three days Hospital Based Program on ‘Peadiatric Ophthalmology’ was organized between 5th–7th August, 2010 by Children’s Eye Care Centre of SSSST. Dr. Mihir Kothari from Mumbai gave hands on training and delivered lecture to Ophthalmologists of Pediatric Dept.
5th - 7th August 2010 - Hospital Based Program on Vitreo Retina Three days Hospital Based Program on ‘Peadiatric Ophthalmology’ was organized between 5th – 7th August, 2010 by Retina Unit of SSSST. Dr. Sandeep Asher from Mumbai, gave hands on training to XX junior ophthalmologists at SNC and conducted a CME on recent advances in Vitreo‐retinal services. 3rd and 4th August - ISO surveillance Audit Surveillance audit was conducted by ISO team to look for adherence and ensure a continual quality improvement process in place. A team of expert external auditors, Dr. M. Deshpande and Mr. N. K. Maitra from ICS, Pune. . Rehabilitation project preparation workshop (August 5-6, 2010) The trust tried to bridge the gap in its health service fold by entering in to collaboration with CBM International towards sustainable development of differently abled people. A team from Christian Mission Hospital, SIDHI (partners of CBM) and Dr. Rahul Bais (project consultant) visited SNC and did a need assessment of the project in the project area of SNC. The team had deliberations with SNC team, gained an understanding of differently‐abled people programs, visiting them and understanding their social issues and finally wrapped up with a tentative plan for the next stage of the program.
26th August - Acute Flaccid Paralysis Workshop Under the aegis of National Polio Surveillance Project, WHO, India; one day workshop to sensitize district level, block level and PHC level officers of Dist. Karvi including staff members and nursing students of SSSST was organized. The STRL NPSP, India, Allahabad, Dr. Siddiqui delivered a presentation on Acute Polio Myelitis including surveillance measures; he gave detailed description of investigating cases of Acute Flaccid Paralysis. The workshop was inaugurated by Executive trustee, Shri Ram Bhai Gokani in the honorary presence of CMO Karwi, SSSST’s Director and Trustee Dr.B.K.Jain, Advisor Health Dr. Gian Chand, and DPO Karwi. Knowldege exchange program -Visit of Lumbini Eye Hospital (Nepal)– 29th Aug- 1st Sep LEI team comprising of Dr. R. Byanju, Dr. Gyandra Lamichhane, Mr. Amod Singh and Ram Prasad Kandel visited SNC to explore possible areas where knowledge exchange can happen. The visit assumes significance since SNC before its change management process has taken LEI as a model and the Director Dr. Jain was exposed to its systems. The LEI team was impressed with the progress of SNC in the last 8 years especially the high volume surgeries; reach out programs in summer season and as well vision centre programs.
Eye donation Fortnight (25th Aug -- 8th Sep): Eye Donation Awareness fortnight was celebrated from 25th August‐8th September to increase awareness amongst community regarding importance of eye donation through veracity of activities that includes; awareness rally, eye donation campaign through outreach and vision centers, slogans, essay & painting competitions in Sadguru Schools Celebration of founding day: Vision Center Semariya (18/08/2010)
Vision 2020 India has identified vision center as one the major priority to improve primary eye care in India. The main purpose to organize vision center founding day is to enhance community participation in the vision center programs. During program of founding day, community participation was excellent and the program was ended with successful objective. The representative of the hospital senior program manager Mr .D. Subramanyam has explained the facility available at the vision center. Chief guest of the program was Mr. D.K.Pandey, Tehsildar, Sirmour has told that the trust is doing excellent service to the poor and needy people he also told that its up to the community that how they are taking the advantage of the facility available at the vision center.
Celebration of founding day: VC Laundi (29/08/2010)
Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust celebrated foundation day of Vision Centre Laundi to enhance community participation.Chief Guest of the program was SDM Laundi, Mr.Anil Singh he told that he is continuously involved to generate awareness among the people about the importance of Vision Center. Sadguru celebrated sponsor day 2010 on 31st August. Outreach camp sponsors from Uttar Pradesh & Madhya Pradesh actively participated in the program. Sadguru sponsor day is being celebrated since 2006, every year to appreciate the contribution of sponsors in making outreach program successful. This year Vice‐Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwa Vidyalaya (MGCGVV), Chitrakoot attended the program as chief guest. Our executive trustee Shri Ram Bhai Gokani presented the memento’s & certificate of appreciation during valedictory ceremony.
Inauguration of new vision center: Vision Center Amauli (29/09/2010) During the inauguration the community participation was excellent and the program was ended with successful objective. Dr.B.K.Jain, Director & Trustee SSSST, Chitrakoot, has explained the need & benefits of the vision center he also explained the facility available at the base hospital. Mr.Anand Sudhan,Head CCO Deptt.,SNC,Chitrakoot has laid emphasis about the coverage area population and about the partnership between standard chartered bank and SNC.Chief Guest of the program was Mr.Tapas Maitra and Mr.Rajiv Agnihotri representatives of Standard Chartered Bank has told that in the future such type vision center will be open in each block of service area population.The program was ended with the thanking speech of Mr. Devendra Singh HR Manager,SNC,Jankikund,Chitrakoot. Refresher Training program for PMOA’s: July to September 18th, 19th and 20th batch of Para‐Medical Ophthalmic Assistants (PMOAs) underwent 6 days refresher training program during July to September months. Total 78 participants from Punjab, UP, Jharkhand and Bihar participated in training programs. The main purpose of the training programs is to orient the Government Para‐medical ophthalmic assistants on skills pertaining to primary eye care delivery and expose them to recent advances in ophthalmology at primary, secondary and tertiary care level.

World Population Week – 11th July – 17th July JKC celebrated World Population Week from 11th – 17th July. On this occasion staff of JKC imparted awareness amongst the Out patients by orientation on Family Planning Methods and importance of population control to develop the country. The celebration of the Week came to an end with a rally conducted by staff of JKC and students of Sadguru Shiksha Samiti. Polio Correction Camp- 23rd – 31st July, 2010
Jankikund Chikitsalaya organized free polio correction camp between 23rd ‐31st July 2010. A total of 725 patients registered their names on first day. Renowned Orthopedic surgeon Dr.H.K.Vakharia from Jamnagar, Gujarat performed successful surgery on 131 patients including 2 cases of Hip replacement and 6 cases of Illizarav. Mahavir Viklang Seva Samiti, Kota, Rajasthan and Jankikund Chikitsalaya jointly organized the polio correction camp. Calipers Distribution Program: 22nd July – 23rd July, 2010
Calipers distribution camp was organized at Jankikund Chikitsalaya for the patients who underwent polio surgery during polio surgical correction camp at SSSST. A total of 262 patients were distributed calipers with the support of Mahavir Viklang Seva Samithi, Kota, Rajasthan.
Plastic Surgery Camp – 21st August 2010 Jankikund Chikitsalaya organized free plastic surgery camp on 21st August, 2010. 13 patients got operated during the camp by renowned plastic surgeons Dr. Prashant Yadav and Dr. Pawan Agrawal, Medical College, Jabalpur.
Breast Feeding Week – 1st – 7th August 2010 Breast feeding week celebration under the theme, 'Breast feeding, just ten steps! The baby friendly way' organised by Jankikund Chikitsalaya, maintaining that breast feeding must be promoted by imparting awareness and counseling to the mothers, so that a mother must breast feed her baby eight times a day.
Post surgery Calipers Distribution Program: 17th September, 2010
Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust has organized Post‐surgery Caliper distribution camp on 17th September, 2010 at Jankikund Chikitsalaya. The aim of the program was to provide Free Calipers to physically challenged persons (who underwent surgery), under ADIP scheme of Government of India (GOI) with the support of Mahavir Viklang Sahayata Samiti, Rajasthan. The chief guest of the program was Mr. Hari Singh Yadav, Superintendent of police, Satna, Shri Deen bandhu Maharaj, Vrindavan. On the occasion Dr. B.K.Jain, Director and Trustee SSSST, appealed to community to join this national programme for eliminating polio afflicted disability.131 calipers were distributed on the occasion.
World Rabies Day- 28th September, 2010
Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust celebrated World Rabies Day 28th September to raise awareness about the continuing burden of the disease and how it can be ultimately prevented by organizing a CME in the presence of Dr. B.K.Jain, Director& Trustee and all the staff of Jankikund Chikitsalaya. On the occasion Dr. Rachit Pandey delivered lecture on the course of new Rabies vaccine, certified by WHO. Dr. Rachit of Jankikund Chikitsalaya has undergone training at Bhopal for this new course for serving the community. CME held at Jankikund Chikitsalaya in the months of July-September

23rd – 27th July- Shree Gauri Vrat Mahotsav
The trust had organized 12th ‘Shree Gauri Vrat Mahotsav’ from 23rd to 27th July at Prarthana Bhavan Hall. On this occasion 135 girls participated in the Mahotsav. Mahotsav came to an end with ‘Ratri Jagran’ at Sadguru auditorium in which numbers of cultural programs including Play, Solo dance and group dance were exhibited by the girls. On the eve of Gauri Vrat Mahotsav; fascinating classical dance performed by Miss Aparna Chaturvedi of class 6th on the melodious song “Madhuvan Mei Radhika Nache Re” and obtained 1st Position in all solo dances, followed by a mythological play related to Lord Shankar and Goddess Parvati ‐ performed by students of Sadguru Public School.
25th July - Gurupurnima Mahotsav In continuation to the traditional celebration of ‘Gurupurnima Mahotsav’, SSSST celebrated the Mahotsav with the same spirit in the presence of Gurubhai and Sant Samaj. Dr.B.K.Jain and Smt. Usha Jain did Guru Pujan on the occasion and Mahotsav concluded with the ‘Vishal Bhandara’.
16th August-‘Tulsi Jayanti Mahotsav’ Goswami Tulsi Das Jayanti was celebrated on 16th August under the patronage of Executive Trustee, Shri Ram Bhai Gokani, President Shri Sadguru Shiksha Samiti, Smt. Usha Jain and Director & Trustee Dr.B.K.Jain in Raghuveer Mandir campus with happiness and panoply. Under the aegis of Shree Ram Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya and Shree Sadguru Shiksha Samiti, various programmes were organized based on the life character of Goswami Tulsi Das Ji. The Principal of all sadguru schools and students of Shri Sadguru Shiksha Samiti were present on this occasion.
28th & 29th August- Celebration of Sanskrit Diwas Under the aegis of Uttar Pradesh Sanskrit Sansthan two days Sanskrit Diwas programme was organized in Raghuveer Mandir Campus. The trust Director & Trustee, Dr. B.K.Jain launched the programme by lamp lightening and wreath at the statue of Maa Saraswati.. On day two seven schools of this region participated in the debate and song competition in which students of Sadguru Public School obtained first and third position. The programme came to an end with the thanks speech of President, Uttar Pradesh Sanskrit Sansthan, Dr.Rekha Vajpayee.
Jhoola Mahotsav: 20th-24th August. Jhoola Mahotsava was celebrated by Sadguru Parivar in Raghuveer Mandir campus between 20th‐24th August. Various scenes depicting Lord Rama & Krishna’s life were staged through Jhaki. The whole campus was decorated with lights and flowers.
Teej Poojan: 11th September, 2010 Under the aegis of Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust, Raghuveer Mandir Trust has organized ‘Teej Poojan’ on 11th September at Prarthana Bhavan. Teej fast, (Bhadrapada Shukla Tritiya) is celebrated on the 3rd day (tritiya tithi) of the Bhadrapada month. Lord Shiva and Goddess Paravati (Gauri ‐ Shankar) are worshipped this day. On this day, women keep fast for the long life of their husband similar to Karvachauth undertaken by married women help develop a healthy culture through their nobility, patience, forbearance and purity of character. Shree Krishna Janamashtami Mahotsav: 2nd September, 2010
The biggest Hindu religious festivals Krishna Janmashtami 2010 was celebrated on 2nd September, 2010 with full zeal and devotion by Sadguru Parivar at Shree Raghuveer Mandir Trust campus. Janmashtami festival honors the birth of Lord Krishna. The birthday of God Lord Krishna celebrated by people by various plays like Mahabharata, Rasa Lila mainly on the occasion of Janmashtami in the areas likes Mathura and Varindava. There is one more ceremony that is pleased on this day and it is Dahi Handi. Dahi Handi is a quite naughtiness that is played by Govindas all over the world. For this mischief people hang Dahi Handi very high. This Dahi Handi is kept full of butter. Govindas make squads and try to crash this Dahi Handi full of butter. In continuation to the tradition Ophthalmic Assistants of Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya crashed the Dahi Handi.

25th July- A donation for little stars of SSSST
On the eve of Gurupurnima, Shri Girish Bhai Patel and Shri Anand Bhai Patel,USA (great philanthrophist) donated a bus to Sadguru Shiksha Samiti. On this occasion Executive Trustee Shri Ram Bhai Gokani, Sadguru Shiksha Samiti President Smt. Usha Jain and members of Sadguru Shiksha Samiti extend their gratitude for the donation.
20th August - Essay writing competition
Under the coordination of Vidyadham School, the team of ‘Rashtriya Seva Yojna’ organized an essay writing competition in which the students of senior secondary participated. The topic of the essay was ‘Sampradayik Ekta Sadbhav’. The winners of the competition were awarded by Executive Trustee Shri Ram Bhai Gokani, Sadguru Shiksha Samiti President Smt. Usha Jain Director and Trustee, Dr. B.K.Jain.
15th August – 63rd Independence Day Celebration
63rd Independence Day was celebrated in Vidyadham School Campus. The executive trustee of the trust Shri. Ram Bhai Gokani hoisted the flag and Dr. B.K.Jain took the salute of the ‘march past’. The celebration was followed with various sports and cultural programs performed by the students of Sadguru Institute of computer science, Sadguru Institute of Nursing and Paramedical Sciences, Sadguru Public school and Vidyadham School. The program came to an end with a Quiz program under the coordination of Dr. Elesh Jain held at Sadguru Auditorium, in which team of SNC, JKC, SICS, Sadguru Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, Vidyadham School and Sadguru Public school participated, among which SNC team team won the competition.
Teacher’s Day Celebration: 5th September
Since 1962, 5th of September has been celebrated as Teacher's Day in India. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakhrishnan was a philosopher and a teacher par excellence. Sadguru Shiksha Samiti celebrated ‘Teachers Day’ at Sadguru Auditorium. The program was celebrated between all the staff and students of educational institutions under Shiksha Samiti in the presence of Dr.B.K.Jain, Director and Trustee, Mrs.Usha Jain, President Sadguru Shiksha Samiti and Executive Trustee, Shri Ram Bhai Gokani. On this occasion, Shri Ram Bhai Gokani honored Mr. Somdutt Mishra, Principal, Vidyadham Sr.secondary School and all the Principals delivered their views on the importance of the day

Scout teacher from Sadguru Shiksha Samiti, Mr. Ramgopal Vishwakarma has participated in the training program held at Gwalior. He learnt different and latest skills of Scout. The objective of the training was to prepare Scout trainees for ‘Himalayan Wood Badge Scout’.

10th to 14th August- Hariali Mahotsav in Sadguru premises
SSSST has organized ’HARIALI MAHOTSAV’ from 10th to 14th August 2010, during which around 5000 ‘tree samplings’ were planted. The involvement of staff members, students of Vidyadham, Sadguru Public School and Sadguru Mahila Samiti’s women was admirable. The students and women were filled with enthusiasm and took an oath to sustain life of the plants planted by them. Thus, Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust contributes to the nation. Plants not only purify the environment of particular area but they are also National Asset.Plants and trees are also helpful in other important functions such as, they bind up the soil particles together and check soil erosion, they check surface run off of water and they increase the water infiltration rate, which ultimately leads to recharge of underground water. Thus, Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust contributes to the nation.

Workshop on Glaucoma
Glaucoma is the second largest cause of blindness after Cataract. The identification and treatment of glaucoma is very often a complex task and follow up a major issue. Considering the gray zones related to the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma a one day workshop was organized on 11th July 2010 by Shri Sadguru Sankalp Netra Chikitsalaya at Hotel Lake View Ashok, Bhopal.The workshop was chaired by Dr. (Mrs.) S. Bisaria, Prof. of Ophthalmology, GMC Bhopal. The special guest for the occasion was Dr. Vijay Anand Joshi, Joint Director Health Services, Gov. of M.P. The chief speaker for the workshop was Dr. Usha Yadava, Director Professor, Glaucoma Services, Guru Nanak Eye Centre and Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi and Dr. Joginder Singh, Glaucoma specialist, Bhopal. Gray Zones in Glaucoma; Paediatric Glaucoma and Basic Fundoscopy in Glaucoma were discussed by the guest faculties. In all 67 eye care professionals attended the workshop. School screening programme in district Rajgarh: In order to achieve the above mentioned objectives two training events were organized on 11th and 12th Aug 2010 at Rajgarh and Biaora respectively. The training events intended to cover all the blocks of Rajgarh district. It is expected that approximately 2 lack school children will be screened by the end of the entire process.
Teachers’ Training at Rajgarh:
On 11th Aug 2010 a training event was organized at Auditorium, Zila Panchayat Rajgarh. The chairperson for the programme was Mr. D. C. Randha, CEO Zila Panchayat Rajgarh. Mr. S.P.S. Bisen, DEO Rajgarh; Mr. G. K. Upadhyay, Trustee, Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust; and Mr. K. N. Gupta, District Coordinator, District Education Office Rajgarh were also present at the occasion. The lectures and practical sessions were carried on by Mr. Naushad Alam, Sr. Ophthalmic Assistant, SSNC. In all 100 teachers were trained through the programme.
Teachers’ Training at Biaora:
In continuation to the training programme in district Rajgarh, a training event was organized at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Biaora on 12th Aug 2010. The chairperson for the event was Mr. R. K. Yadav, BEO, Biaora. Mr. K. N. Gupta, District Coordinator, District Education Office Rajgarh was also present at the occasion along with the team from SSNC. In all 74 teachers were trained through the event. Award for the work done in eye care: On 15th Aug 2010, the trust was awarded for the excellent work done under Blindness Control Programme in the district. The award was presented by honorable Finance Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Raghavji Bhai at the Independence Day function organized at Vidisha. Shri Ravi Upadhyay and Dr. Surendra Upadhyay accepted the award on behalf of the trust. Hon. Collector District Vidisha Shri Yogendra Sharma was also present at the occasion.
Inauguration of Primary School Building The region is marked by poor infrastructural facilities. The status of health and education is very poor. Hence to improve the quality of education, to provide basic infrastructure, and to make primary education accessible to the rural and poor people the school building was established. The newly constructed Primary school building at Sadguru Nagar was inaugurated on 25 July 2010 by respected Vice‐chairman Shri Vishadbhai Mafatlal. The school was named as Shri Padmanabhbhai Aravindbhai Mafatlal Primary School. Trustees Shri Nanda Ballabh Lohani and Shri Raghunath M. Balakrishnan were also present at the occasion. New school bus for children: A new school bus TATA STAR BUS MARCO POLO received as donation in kind was inaugurated by Shri Gowardhanbhai Upadhyay on 2nd Sep 2010. Independence Day celebration:
64th Independence Day of India was celebrated at the trust on 15 Aug 2010. The main function was organized at Vidhya Mandir H. Sec. School. The chief guest for the function was Shri Gowardhanbhai Upadhyay, Trustee, and Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust. After the flag hosting ceremony, cultural programmes were organized wherein the school children performed various plays. Su. ILaben Jobanputra was also present at the occasion along with the other staff members from the trust.
Jaya Parvati Vrat Jaya ‐ Parvati Vrat Program was carried out at the “Prarthana Bhavan – Sadguru Nagar. 51 girls participated in the Vrat and they took a pledge to continue the Vrat for 5 years. Shri Bharatbhai and Smt Dakhshaben Bhatt were present at the function. On the last day of the vrat a special puja was performed. Respected Vice‐chairman Shri Vishadbhai Mafatlal was the chief guest for the occasion.
Guru Punam Utsav Guru Punam was celebrated on 25th July 2010 at the trust. A special puja was performed by respected Shri Vishadbhai Mafatlal at Gurumani, Shri Ramdas Hanuman Mandir. Various gurubhais from across the country were present along with the staff.
