Rain or shine, Saanich is a beautiful place to live

When the Saanich News chose June 20 to shoot the 2013 Day in the Life, the expectation was it would be a sunny day.

But for the first time in a long time, the ever-fickle weather in the Capital Region didn’t go our way. On our photoshoot day, dark clouds covered the city, the wind picked up and the rain poured down.

Our intrepid staff grabbed umbrellas and hit the streets, and once again found a community hard at work and play. Photos span from dawn to dusk, cov-ering all corners of this 100 square kilometre munici-pality.

The rain didn’t stop locals and visitors from enjoy-ing the views and forests of Mount Doug Park, riding a bike to work, hitting the beaches with man’s best friend, kids playing in parks or people working hard at their job, indoors and out.

This year we’ve captured a broad slice of life in the community, a photo essay that reminds us why so many people in Greater Victoria call Saanich home.
