8:15 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Health Policy and the 2012 ElectionPresented by: Susan Dentzer, Editor-in-Chief of Health Affairs

Campaigning is already in full swing for the 2012 elections. This November, Americans will have made their voices heard at the polls as they make their choices for leaders in our nation’s Capitol. The $1 million question is this – who will they pick? Will the economy determine their vote, or will healthcare reform be the deciding factor in voters’ selection? As one of the nation’s most respected health and health policy journalists, Susan Dentzer shares her insight into how healthcare reform and current health policy issues may influence the outcome of the 2012 elections. Many hospital leaders will be preparing for new provisions of the health reform act and reimbursement issues, particularly federal and state cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, are always a concern. Dentzer will offer key insight into how today’s political landscape on issues affecting healthcare could possibly play out at the polls.

10:00 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. Break

10:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Health Reform and the Decline of Physician Private PracticePresented by: Kurt Mosely, Vice President of Strategic Alliances, Merritt Hawkins How will health reform affect the way physicians practice in the United States? What practice models are likely to be most prevalent in the post-reform era? How will health reform affect physician supply and demand, and how can hospitals, medical groups and others extend the physician workforce? Merritt Hawkins, the nation’s leading physician search and consulting firm, was commissioned by The Physicians’ Foundation, a non-profit grant making organization composed of physician leaders, to provide answers to these and related questions. The result of the firm’s effort is a major report and survey entitled, Health Reform and the Decline of Physician Private Practice. Executives with Merritt Hawkins reveal the findings of the report in a timely and dynamic presentation that gets to the heart of how health reform will transform the way physicians practice in America.
