Hello Readers, The above picture was taken of myself and Push “Nova” at Bushnell National Cemetery on Memorial Day next to our bikes. Nova and I have made this ride a group ride for the past five years. There are a few who have been with us on nearly every ride. Nova and I be-lieve the way Memorial Day should be spent is honoring those who have given so much for our great nation...some have given all. We are a military family that believes strongly in Duty * Honor * Country...always and forever. This month we are advertising, Peterson’s Key West Poker Run as well as Starke Bikefest, two events that Push and I will attend this year. We look forward to the ride back to the Florida Keys, it has been a few years since we have ridden to the Southern Most Point in the USA...we also look forward to the Duval Crawl. See page 25 for Phil Peterson’s Run and page 45 for Starke Bikefest. “Fathers Day” Wow did I get a treat from my loving wife Nova. We took a trip to Eaton’s Beach where I ate my favorite dish “Shrimp and Grits.” After we finished eating we headed downstairs to The Steam Shack to grab an-other cold one and buy two bottles of the best darn Bloody Mary mix you will find in Florida. It comes from Wisconsin and Eaton’s Beach is the only place that sells it...this is a must try Bloody Marry. See Eaton’s Beach ad on page 39. If your looking to save a bunch of money on Harley-Davidson Licensed Merchandise see Gator Harley’s ad on page 7 and Stormy Hill Harley’s ad on page 9. Also Gator Harley has a huge motorcycle tent sale, again see page 7. We Ride With You Hark * Push

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Sgt. Patterson (then Sp4c.) distinguished himself while serving as a fire team leader of the 3d Platoon, Troop B, during an assault against a North Vietnamese Army battalion which was entrenched in a heavily fortified position. When the leading squad of the 3d Platoon was pinned down by heavy interlocking auto-matic weapon and rocket propelled grenade fire from 2 enemy bunkers, Sgt. Patterson and the 2 other members of his assault team moved forward under a hail of enemy fire to destroy the bunkers with gre-nade and machinegun fire. Observing that his comrades were being fired on from a third enemy bunker covered by enemy gunners in l-man spider holes, Sgt. Patterson, with complete disregard for his safety and ignoring the warning of his comrades that he was moving into a bunker complex, assaulted and de-stroyed the position. Although exposed to intensive small arm and grenade fire from the bunkers and their mutually supporting emplacements. Sgt. Patterson continued his assault upon the bunkers which were impeding the advance of his unit. Sgt. Patterson single-handedly destroyed by rifle and grenade fire 5 enemy bunkers, killed 8 enemy soldiers and captured 7 weapons. His dauntless courage and heroism inspired his platoon to resume the attack and to penetrate the enemy defensive position. Sgt. Patterson's action at the risk of his life has reflected great credit upon himself, his unit, and the U.S. Army.

Homes for Our Troops

In this time of great sadness in our nation a feel good day was just what we needed and my broth-ers and sister here in Citrus County should be proud. Your outpouring of support for this young man Marine Corporal Joshua Langston-White who lost both his legs to an IED in Afghanistan brought me to tears.

The Confederation of American Patriots, Inc work-ing with Homes for Our Troops Florida has been fundraising to build Joshua and his wife Brittni a home adapted to his injuries. Learn more about this veteran at: www.hfotusa.org/LangstonWhite.

Many thanks to Doug Doty and his amazing staff at High Octane Saloon for hosting this 3 day event. The Citrus County Sheriff’s Department for the pre-cision escort and especially all those who donated ! The property has been purchased for Joshua here in Crystal River, FL and with our communities con-tinued support and love we will make a difference. God bless all our veterans and those in active ser-vice, thank you for your service.

14 Year Anniversary Stormy Hill H-D

Somewhere in Central Florida there is a vary happy LAMA M/C Member...his name was drawn for the 2016 Harley-Davidson Street 500...a fast little ride. The bike was given away by showing up and sign-ing in to win at Stormy Hill Harley-Davidson’s Four-teenth Anniversary. It might have been a hot day for some...but I think a hot day for Stormy Hill as they drew a great crowd of riders and put on one heck of a party...I would say one for the record books. Congratulations goes to Janice Malik owner .

Her mother, Arlene and father, John Sr. had the foresight many years ago to move from Chicago to Lake County Florida where they first bought Gator Harley-Davidson then a few years later built Cler-mont Harley–Davidson. Now called Stormy Hill Har-ley-Davidson...your guess is as good as mine why...needless to say it might have something to do with the storms that seem to hit the hill.

I have personally known the Malik family from the beginning when they bought Gator Harley. They are simply the finest people you will find as Harley-Davidson Dealer Owners. They are Hands-On own-ers. Friends these are the kind of dealerships we

should all support. Our Rebel Rider Magazine Sa-lute goes to Janice Malik for putting on one great event this year...we can’t wait till the next one...Hark

HAMMET L. BOWEN JR.

On May 28th at the VFW retirement village in Ft. McCoy a sign was erected in memory of Sergeant Bowen at the corner of N. E. Hwy. 315 and N.E. 135th street, the entrance to the retirement village. Sergeant Bowen enlisted in the Army at the induc-tion center in Jacksonville, Florida in 1965. From there he went to Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. By June 1969 he had promoted to Staff Sergeant in Co. C, 2nd Battalion, 14th infantry, 25th Infantry Division. Sergeant Bowen sacrificed his life by jumping on an enemy throne grenade saving the lives of his fellow soldiers. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery and died of his wounds at 21 years of age. Sergeant Bowen is buried at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in LaGrange, Georgia where he was born. Special thanks to Chicken Man and his horse, Roger Lippincott for initiating the Memorial Way Dedica-tion, Sergeant Bowens sister-in-law for her part in the un-veiling of the sign and the acceptance of the flag presented by Chicken Man and all the people in attendance. There is also a school in Marion co. named in his honor, Hammet Bowen Jr. Elementary which I had the privilege to work on several years

ago. R.I.P. Sergeant Bowen, he will be remembered for a long time. More Pictures Page 21

Gator Harley-Davidson Host Beach Bums Bike Nite

Word of mouth and internet got the message out for Gator Harley-Davidsons first Bike Nite at Beach Bums ...this is a fairly new business in the down-town Eustis area. The place is really cool...outside it is set up like a beach with a boat taking up some space….behind the sand is a stage. Parking a bike was also pretty cool...you rode in from Hwy 19 and parked inside the business area. The food is good...and beer is ice cold...you can’t ask for much more. Hark

Ocala Veterans Park Memorial Day Celebration

Another great turn out for the annual Memorial Day at the Ocala Veterans Park located on Hwy. 40 in Ocala. I have said this many times in the past that this is one of the best veteran parks around with more than 5,000 engraved bricks, 200 benches and 100 plaques honoring Marion Counties hero’s. Visi-tors can view and appreciate the history of our vet-erans from the birth of our country forward to to-day. God bless all our vets past and present, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.

Clermont HOG Hospice Ride For Angels

Over a quarter of a million dollars raised and still going strong for Hospice. The effort this HOG Chap-ter puts into this annual event is second to none...work begins for next year as soon as this event is over. The event is loaded with some of the best auction items you will ever see...the food is prepared by Rooster a chapter member who caters. The leader of the event Dennis Halloran has been the man in charge since day ONE! He has a fantas-tic team working with him taking care of every de-tail not leaving one question mark after any issue. I personally have covered every Hospice Ride this chapter has done.

I know of no other charity that does the work that Hospice does for not only the person they are car-ing for but also the family. I would think that nearly everyone at one time has had a family member be-ing cared for by Hospice. Great Job Clermont HOG...I shall see you again next year! Hark

Big Surprise For Cody

Cody Byers who is one of the Porters at Stormy Hill Harley-Davidson in Clermont recently got a gigantic surprise at the Stormy Hill Bike Nite at Lily’s On The Lake. Cody has a passion for Harley-Davidson...little did he know his father Dan Byers, a wrench that works for Stormy Hill Harley Rick Kirker and Stormy Hill Harley found a bike to sur-prise him. After many weeks of work by Stormy Hills Wrench Rick Kirker the bike was ready...The 16 year old who is known to everyone at Stormy Hill Harley as a hard worker received the surprise of his life. People at Stormy Hill Harley-Davidson and Cody’s father wanted him to know they recognize a fine young man and wanted to encourage him to keep up the good work.

Cody is only 16 years old. He has many years ahead of him...somehow I think his life is gong to

be surrounded by Harley riders...who knows...maybe some day the young man will buy a Harley-Davidson Dealership. Good Luck Cody from all of us at Rebel Rider Magazine. You certainly have a wonderful father and tremendous friends.

The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall In the middle of May a call went out for any bikers willing to be a part of an escort for The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall, a 3/5 scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC. The wall was being transported, on Wednesday, June 8th, from Chuluota to Longwood, for a four day display at Reiter Park. The biker community turned out big time, especially for a mid-week morning. There were easily over 200 that showed up at VFW Post 10139 in Chuluota for the beginning of the ride. There were single rid-ers and clubs from all over central Florida. The ride was fully Police escorted, through Oviedo, and down SR 434 to Longwood. Once we arrived at Reiter Park, there really wasn't a lot to see, it would take all day for the display to be set up. All of the riders were invited over to VFW Post 8207 in Longwood for lunch and many of us rode over for that. I returned the next day for the opening ceremonies. The ceremony started with the Posting of Colors and the National Anthem followed by presentations from many retired and current Military along with a few politicians. There was a very informative presentation on the history of US Flags by the US Military Vets M/C. The names of those from Semi-

nole County that lost their lives in Vietnam were read and the ceremony was closed out with a wreath laying at the wall. All in all a very honoring and moving ceremony. By the time you read this, The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will have moved on to another loca-tion. The Vietnam Memorial in DC is something that all Americans should see if they get a chance. If not, look for The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall, it really is a fitting tribute to those that gave all. More Pictures Pages 30 and 31. -Brad

Riding SOB

I hope everyone doesn't mind but I think I'll take a brief detour from what I normally do in this space and head off on a different path. I'll be back riding the back roads and bar stools next month. I moved to Florida in 1978 and settled in the Orlando ar-ea in 1982. Like most everyone else in Florida, I lived here, but if you asked me where “Home” was I would talk about somewhere else. We all lived here, worked here, played here, made friends here, but we always rooted for our “Home” team, we all talked about our family back “Home”. I've spent two-thirds of my life here, but some-where else was still “Home”. Early Sunday morning, June 12, 2016, an evil, almost unimaginable thing happened in Orlando. An evil that makes you question your life and faith and beliefs. The very worst of humanity had reared it's ugly head. This Sunday morning started out for me pretty much like any other weekend morning – my wife Sandy and I were going to get up and go for a ride, meet some friends, have a few cold beers – good times. I started the day the way I normally do – grab a cup of coffee, get the news-paper, check messages. I saw a post someone had shared about a nightclub shooting in Orlando. I scrolled right past it, sad to say but shootings happen in Orlando almost every day. Almost ready to roll and I turn the TV on to check the weather. The news report says up to 20 dead. Wow. Shock and disbelief, but bad things happen in this world all the time - we get on the bike and head

down the road. We get to our first stop and the TV is on. Possibly 50 dead. The size of this event starts to register, but still, even though it's here, we've really become numb to all the violence in the world. We're so desensi-tized to all the atrocities all around the world – 24hr a day non-stop breaking news, the blurred lines between what's real and the bloodshed in movies and violent vid-eo games – sometimes it doesn't seem real. Over the next few days it's all you see on TV and in the newspaper, music radio is even doing all news and talk, it's everywhere. The numbness starts to wear off and the reality starts to get in. You hear about the people that died, the families that lost loved ones. The suffering and the pain, right here, not half way around the world. It is real. As the days go by, we start to hear the good stories, the inspiring stories. We hear about the heroes and the survi-vors. The police that risked their lives to save people. The first responders that were so overwhelmed that they were taking victims to the hospital in pick-ups because they ran out of ambulances. I watched the press confer-ence for the medical staff as they talked about how they had always trained for the worst, and this was the worst, yet they all worked together for hours and they per-formed miracles. Orlando has always seemed like a town of strangers and acquaintances, people from other places, other states, from all around the world. Orlando truly has been the so called “melting pot” - people of every race, nationality, sexual preference, religion and point of view. Orlando has been open and accepting and tolerant, but still, most people have kept to their own comfortable group. Now I hear phrases like “Orlando Strong” or “We Are Orlando” - but they're not just phrases, I see it every-where. A call goes out for blood donations and so many people show up that they can't handle them all. People bring food and water to the first responders. There are memorials and candle light vigils. Fund raising and sup-port events are being set up. Businesses are offering their services free to the families of victims. I see our very own biker community setting up fund raising and support rides, and when word goes out that some outside groups may be coming to protest and harass the families, the biker community is showing up in mass to shield the families from the hate. Churches of every denomination are opening their doors for support, and prayers for com-fort and healing. Right now most of us aren't talking about who is respon-sible for this happening, there will be plenty of time for that. We aren't talking about who was attacked or why. This was an attack on all of us. We are all Orlando. We were all hurt by this and we are all coming together to love and support and heal. This week I have seen the darkness of the worst of hu-manity. I have seen that pushed aside. The very best of humanity has come shining through. I am proud to call Orlando my Home. -Brad [email protected] Riding SOB on Facebook 407-432-5845

Memorial Day At Bushnell National Cemetery

Each year Nova and I set up a guided ride to Bush-nell National Cemetery on Memorial Day. This year we had around 20 riders join us. I am sure each rider goes for a different reason, ours is to show respect to those who have given so much to the country they love.

When bikers arrive at Bushnell there is a special parking area set aside for us, the parking is vary close to the area where ceremonies are taking place. To me the wonderful thing about making this annual visit is the feeling that comes over me...even though there are thousands of people attending there are moments a pin could drop and that would be the only thing you would hear. There is so much respect for Bushnll from all that attend. This year people surrounded the ceremony site like I have never seen in the past.

This is a day to remember each and every soldier with tremendous honor. Many times family's arrive early to put pictures of lost ones, flags, flowers and letters at grave sites. You can feel the pain they must be going through with a simple picture.

If you have not visited Bushnell you're really miss-ing out on seeing the great work our VA does for

veterans. We invite you to join us next year Memo-rial Day for our annual ride.

Birthday Party For Chuck

Chuck the owner of the Oasis Saloon in Sorrento recently hit the big 70...one would never guess this because he works like a 40 year old. The O is one of the hottest biker hang outs in Lake County. Rebel Rider Magazine Sixth Anniversary

Rebel Rider Magazines Sixth Anniversary party started out at the Crazy Gator in Eustis with most drinking one heck of a great Bloody Mary. The par-ty started at around 9:30 AM with the Nam Knights Green Swamp Chapter arriving first then the Lake County Mil Vets and others caught up pretty fast so by about 10:30 AM the deck was full. Around 11:30 AM we headed to The Golden Horseshoe where the girls were ready for the big crowed that arrived. Tom the new owner even added in a sur-prise with Free Hot Dogs with all the sides and more. The bikes on the ride continued to grow after we arrived at The Shamrock. Clubs that showed up were The Nam Knights of America Green Swamp Chapter, Lake Mil Vets, Lake ABATE, The Fallen Few, Lake County Cruisers, and the Pissin Frogs ...A great big thank you goes out to each club for their support from all of us at Rebel Rider Magazine...you shall not be forgotten for your sup-port.

I hope each of you will remember how well you were treated at all our stops...those business’s that support us need us to return. Help them out by putting them on your poker runs, or make them a

stop when you’re out riding around. There is so many things I would like to say about our anniver-sary celebration...Six years is a long time for most magazines, many try and fail...not because they are not a good rag in many cases, but it is mainly because of lack of advertisers. We are fortunate to have loyal advertisers. They make our magazine work. More pictures on this page 42 and 43 Hark

Update From U-Turn Our Active Duty Service Rep

Though I’ve been doing a ton of riding around this rock called Oahu lately, there hasn’t been much for poker runs or events worth reporting. That doesn’t mean I can’t share some pics of this paradise and rub it in your face. The past few weeks, some great things have happened out here as my Hawai-ian tour winds down. Right when my sister came from Lake County to stay awhile, it was announced I was selected for promotion to Master Sergeant.

So awesome to share that experience with family.

Now that time is ticking before I move on to the next location, family and friends are using my free

room as fast as they can, keeping me busy as a dang tour guide. No complaints here but those mai tai’s are catching up with me. Recently, I gave a tour to my sister and a friend also visiting from Lake County of my base at Hickam. When hearing of the attack at Pearl Harbor, they imagine the har-bor itself and the Arizona. What is often over-looked is that there were five airfields attacked that day. Here at Hickam, many of our facilities still bear evidence of that day. The aircraft hangars and former barracks are still marred by bullet holes and pock marks from the Japanese attack. Also, the flag that was flown that day and was targeted by gun planes is on display here. Gives goose-bumps every time. The pole that is pictured is the original, surviving flagpole from that day. The flag is flown half-staff to honor the victims killed in the Orlando attack.

Now that I’ve either made the reader jealous or sparked an airline ticket purchase, next month, there are a lot of biker events going on and I will be there to write about it. I’ll close for now but not before sharing my prayers and condolences to those affected by the ignorant attack in Orlando. Aloha, yall.
