Parish Mission Statement St. James the Less Parish is a Christian Community of the Roman Catholic tradition. Our Parish Community is dedicated to proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus, and as the people of God are called to further the mission of Jesus. We will do this through the Word, Liturgy, Sacrament, Music, Ecumenism, Evangelization, Religious Education of our Children, Prayer and the Honoring of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We will deepen our knowledge, skills and understanding of our Faith. We will be Faith based. Above all, we will foster Love by example and serve the needs of others to work towards economic and social development for all people.

Baptism: Parents who wish to have their child baptized need to call the Rectory. Preparation classes are required and are by appointment only. Baptisms will be held the first Sunday of every month at 1:00 pm. Sponsors and Godparents: If you are 18 years of age or older, you must register as an adult and be confirmed in the Catholic Church. If you wish to be a Sponsor for Confirmation or a Godparent, you must be an active parishioner and attending Mass. Matrimony: Couples contemplating this Sacrament must contact the Parish Office at least one year in advance. All couples planning marriage must attend Pre-Cana classes or Engaged Encounter. Ministry of the Sick: Parishioners who are homebound and would like to receive the Eucharist, please call the Rectory. If you would like to have your name included on the Prayer List in the bulletin, please call the Rectory. RCIA: Adults inquiring about the Catholic Church with a desire to become Catholic are invited to call the Parish Office for more information about the Rite of Catholic Initiation of Adults which begins in September and runs through the following Easter.

Adoration On Thursdays, Adoration will be held in the Church from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm. All are welcome to come for any amount of time.

It’s the Fourth of July weekend. Many in our community will be traveling to visit family or to go to the shore. Those that stay home will have cook outs and invite friends and family, watch fireworks, rest and enjoy the fruits of liberty. How do we get to enjoy the freedoms to do these things? Can they do this in Venezuela? in North Korea? In Cuba? In Iran? In Syria? The fact is that in most of the world people live in a state of uncertainty as to their rights, those rights which we hold “to be unalienable” — we cannot be alienated from them. They are ours by Natural Law which implies Natural Rights: Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. What is happiness? It comes from the Greek “Eudaimonia”, usually translated as “happiness” but it means to “live well or fare well”. It refers to human flourishing. To do and be the best we can be with the gifts that God has given us. That is true “happiness” and what we should be pursuing: human flourishing. Making those gifts we have been given to bear fruit. As Jesus said, “By their fruit you shall know them.” How can we tell the good fruit from the bad fruit? If we love God above all things and love our neighbor. In the Gospel Jesus uses hyperbole — exaggeration. In the end we must love God more than mother, father, sister, brother, husband, wife, son, daughter. But we must love these and all those others as well as He loved us — and He died for us. As our Patron St James wrote: it is by our works that our faith is known. And more than that, “the least” of our neighbors. Who is the least of our neighbors? Who is the one that can least defend herself? It is the unborn. That is why we should be careful of politicians who are ravenous wolves in sheep clothing. They say we should show our help for the poor but they kill the unborn. A Senator famously said: “Don't speak to me about your religion; first show it to me in how you treat other people. Don't tell me how much you love your God; show me in how much you love all God's children…” Nice words, but they promote the killing of babies in the womb. The fact is that Catholic Charities exceeds all others in the care of the poor. Catholics, and devout Catholics at that, are more generous that all others. We do it because we love the Lord. In reality they are mocking us! Why should we listen to them?

The Friends of the JPL Annual Beach Read Book Sale is now in progress at the Jamesburg Public Library. The event will be held until July 10. A grocery sized bag of books is only $5 (handles must close) or $1 a book. Profits help to fund free programs offered by the library. The library opens at 10 am and is closed Tuesdays and Sundays. Este fin de semana se celebra el día de Independencia. Muchos en nuestra comunidad viajarán para visitar a familiares o irán a la playa. Los que no viajarán tendrán fiesta en casa e invitarán a amigos y familiares, verán fuegos artificiales, descansarán y disfrutarán los frutos de la libertad. Pero ¿cómo podemos disfrutar de la libertad de hacer estas cosas. ¿Pueden hacer esto en Venezuela? ¿En Corea del Norte? ¿En cuba ¿En Iran? ¿En Siria? En la mayor parte del mundo las personas viven en un estado de incertidumbre en cuanto a sus derechos, aquellos derechos que consideramos "inalienables" - no poden ser alienados de nosotros. Son nuestras por Ley Natural que implica Derechos Naturales: Vida, Libertad y la búsqueda de la Felicidad. ¿Qué es la felicidad? Viene del griego "Eudaimonia", generalmente traducido como "felicidad", pero significa "vivir bien o bienestar". Se refiere al florecimiento humano. Hacer y ser lo mejor que podemos con los dones que Dios nos ha dado. Eso es verdadera "felicidad" y lo que debemos perseguir: el florecimiento humano. Hacer que esos dones den fruto. Como dijo Jesús: "Por su fruto los conocerán". ¿Cómo podemos distinguir la fruta buena de la fruta mala? Si demuestran amor a Dios sobre todas las cosas y amor a nuestro prójimo. En el Evangelio Jesús usa la hipérbole - la exageración. Finalmente debemos amar a Dios más que a la madre, al padre, a la hermana, al hermano, a la mujer, al hijo, a la hija. Pero debemos amar a éstos ya todos esos otros tanto como Él nos amó - y Él murió por nosotros. Como nuestro Patrón Santiago escribió: es por las obras que se conoce nuestra fe. Y más que eso, cuidando de los “mas pequeños” de nuestros vecinos. ¿Quién es el “mas pequeño”? ¿Quién es el que menos puede defenderse? Es el no nacido. Por eso debemos tener cuidado con los políticos que son lobos voraces con ropa de ovejas. Dicen que debemos mostrar nuestra ayuda para los pobres, pero dejan morir a los no nacidos. Por ejemplo, el un senador dijo: "No me hables de tu religión; Primero muéstramelo en cómo tratas a la gente. No me digas cuánto amas a tu Dios; Muéstrame en cuánto amas a todos los hijos de Dios ... " Buenas palabras, pero promueve la matanza de bebés en el útero. El hecho es que las Caridades Católicas superan a todos los demás en cuidado de los pobres. Los católicos, y los católicos devotos principalmente, son más generosos que todos los demás. Lo hacemos porque amamos al Señor. ¡En realidad se están burlando de nosotros! ¿Por qué debemos escucharlos ?
