TD Art Gallery Paint-InTRANSCRIPT
Between Fort Street and Dallas Road, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., new and emerging artists, as well as returning ones, will set up temporary studios for all to enjoy.
But the Paint-In doesn’t just act as a gallery, and the event is not only about selling art — art lovers have a personal invitation to meet local artists and, whether you’re an expert or brand new to the Victoria art scene, all barriers are broken with the chance to interact and sample the materials they work with.
Over 150 artists and an esti-mated 35,000 visitors may seem like a claustrophobic number, but the Paint-In is one of the most quiet, tranquil and easy-going events Victoria sees every year.
Mary-ellen Th readkell, coor-dinator of the Paint-In, assures that aft er getting used to the en-vironment, artists and spectators will be hosting a peaceful “Love-In” of art. “If someone is looking for a teacher, or inspiration, or art for their walls, they’ll fi nd it at the Paint-In” says Th readkell.
Returning this year, Agnes Anananichuk is planning to share her outstanding collage work, and Peggy Brackett will be working with fused glass.
Among the many other return-ing artists is Ivan Fraser, who uniquely brings a piece of sculpture to be developed throughout the day by the hands of Moss Street visitors. Th e outcome always promises a fascinating surprise.
Alain Costaz will be running life-drawing classes that will take place in three diff erent locations on Moss Street. Student artists will partake in the project to experiment with diff erent materials.
Each year, the TD Art Gallery Paint-In strives to be a greener event. To achieve this goal, bottled water will
not be sold, but reusable, foldable, black water bottles will be for sale, complete with the message: “Green is the new black. Th anks for making art sustainable in Victo-ria.” Along with the Earth-friendly bottles, a thorough system of recycling will be set up.
Donations for the bottles and the Paint-In are appreciated, and donation barrels will be easily spotted down the street. All sur-plus funds go to the educational program-ming at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. Additionally, the gallery itself is open at 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. the day of the Paint-In.
To top off the day, visit the food and beverage garden, located in the parking lot,
between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. Th e road will be closed for traffi c during these hours and secure bike parking will be provided at the
gallery to encourage cycling.
Stick around for the melodic rhythms of Latin dance
band, Kumbia, performing from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more
