“Sing to the Lord a new song, sing to the Music Ministry Lord, all the earth.” Psalm 96 10:30 Mass Choir: Come join the adult choir as we worship and enhance the liturgy! The choir is made up of volunteers over the age of 16, who are dedicated, committed to serving, and are fun-loving. All levels of singing are welcome from beginner to advance. It is not necessary to be able to read music. We can teach you!! Practices are held Thursday nights from 7 PM to 9 PM in Room 1 of the St. Vincent de Paul Building and before mass as well at 9:45 AM. The choir sings every Sunday from mid-August to June at 10:30 AM Sunday mass. We sometimes sing at the 8:30 AM Mass and 5:30 PM mass on Saturday. We also sing on Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Confir-mation and other special events throughout the year. We also have a combined choir concert with the Spanish Choir on the first weekend of June which is a lot of fun and it gives the parishioners a chance to see and hear the choir in a different way.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE A SACRISTAN? Our Sacristan Ministry is currently in need of a few men and women willing to devote time to help in the preparation of the celebration of the Eucharist. We have a small team of sacristans for each mass schedule, and we rotate through the team so each person covers at least one regular mass per month in addition to covering one or more of holy days of obligation. We are especially interested in finding several people to support the 8:30am masses and the 12:30pm Spanish masses, however, the 10:30am and 5:30pm masses could always use one extra person! A Sacristan's role is to see that everything is in readiness to ensure that the liturgy is both prayerful and orderly without unnecessary distraction. Below is a basic listing of the more common duties during mass: • Arrive 30 minutes before mass begins. • Greet the priest so he knows who is on duty, and if there is a visiting priest, offer help or answer any questions he may have. • Ensure the lights are turned up to full level by 15 minutes before mass begins. • If incense is required for a particular mass, the Sacristan should have the charcoals burning by 15 minutes before mass. • Select gift bearers for the mass and explain when they are to meet you in the foyer for line up and what is expected of them. Many times we use young children so a walk through is also an option be-fore mass. Re-explain the basics again as you line them up and hand them the gifts, and finally, instruct them to begin when the priest is ready. • Ensure the candles are lit (altar servers are to light the candles). • Be alert and flexible both before and during mass in case anything arises that needs your assistance. • Ensure the candles are snuffed out after mass (altar servers are to put out the candles). • Dim the lights down a level immediately after mass, then dim one level further before leaving (the lights are shut off completely by others after the last mass of the day). • If you're interested, please call the church office at (713) 864-2653 and leave your number and one of the co-chairs will contact you.
