“PASTOR PAUL’S PARAGRAPHS”
Dear Members and Friends of the Sweetwater Baptist Church:
Blessings!! We are all still rejoicing over the awesome service we had on May 17th when Brother
Mark Abbott was called as our Associate Pastor and Minister of Music and Worship. There was such
a sweet and worshipful spirit in the service that day. Thank you for your overwhelming affirming vote for
him and his dear family. Mark will officially begin his duties with us on July 13th. Pray for him, Alyson,
and little Noah during this time of transition as they relocate from Gaffney to North Augusta.
Also, I would like to say a special “thank you” to the Minister of Music Search Team for the outstanding
job they did in securing Brother Mark. Committee members include John Dickenson, chairman; Coni San-
som, Robert Gillespie, Kathy Ferguson, Michael Clark, and Nikki Mock. As you have opportunity, please let
them know how much you appreciate their hard work and labor of love. We are also grateful for the out-
standing job that John Dickenson and Robert Gillespie have done in leading our choir and congregational
singing during this interim time. “Thank you” for your willingness to serve in this capacity.
One of my favorite times of the year is Vacation Bible School. This year’s VBS will be during the dates
of June 15-19. Our theme this year is “Journey Off the Map” based on Isaiah 30:21 which states, “And
your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or
when you turn to the left.” (ESV) Our boys and girls will learn how to obey the voice of God in this year’s
school. Pray that God will speak to the heart of every child that attends VBS at Sweetwater. A special
“thanks” goes out to Missy Ferraro for being our VBS Director this year and to the numerous individ-
uals who have volunteered to serve in this year’s school. Pray for Missy and the many workers as they minis-
ter to the children who will be participating each day. VBS is also one of the greatest evangelistic opportuni-
ties of the year for our church. Please, pray that God will use VBS to reach many boys and girls in our com-
munity with the gospel.
To help us get the word out concerning Vacation Bible School, there will be a VBS Blitz on Saturday
morning, June 13th, from 10:30 am until noon. We will divide up into teams and invite the children in our
community to attend this exciting event. I hope you will make plans to be with us for this important outreach
opportunity.
It is time for our Nominating Committee to begin their work of selecting officers, teachers, workers, and
leaders for the new church year (2015-2016). Please, pray for them as they discern God’s guidance in this
process. Enclosed you will find a survey form to help them in their work. Please, fill out the form and return
it to the “Surveys” box located in the Information Center. Thank you so very much for your time and help in
this matter.
Continue to pray for our Supreme Court Justices as they are scheduled to give a ruling rule on the legality
of same sex marriages and the constitutionality of state bans on such marriages this month. Pray for God’s
divine intervention in this matter. Regardless of what the Supreme Court decides, the biblical definition of
marriage is between a man (male) and a woman (female). The Apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 5:31, “For
this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one
flesh.” (NIV)
It is a privilege and an honor to serve you!!
With a Pastor’s Love,
Brother Paul Philippians 1:3
