Instructions for Commitment Card

The building fund line on our regular envelope will now be used for building

maintenance and improvement.

Our building campaign is two (2) phases. The first 2-1/2 years are dedicated to

paying off the mortgage. We rounded it off to three-year gift amount for con-

venience. If we get at least 200 people to commit to $25 weekly above their

normal tithes and offerings, we will pay the mortgage off by June/July 2018.

The last 2-1/2 years (for a total of 5 years) will be funds dedicated for when a

building/land becomes available for us to build/move to a larger location where

we will have more classrooms, office space, parking, a larger sanctuary, and so

we can do more ministry. If you are committed to the entire 5 years, please fill

out under “ I/We plan to give accordingly:” on the commitment card.

Example: Total Three-year Gift Amount $25 weekly

If you are committed or all 5 years

I/We plan to give accordingly:

$25 weekly for 260 weeks

You can drop your completed commitment card in the offering basket OR

turn it in directly to the Trustees OR Church office.

Page 5: DEACONS / DEACONESS ALPHABETIC FAMILY …...2016/03/20  · DEACONS / DEACONESS ALPHABETIC FAMILY LISTING The Deacons and Deaconess are assigned to the congregation alphabetically

The official start of our Building campaign was Vision Sunday, January 17,

2016. It’s not too late to be a part of this endeavor. Pastor Coleman is asking

each member to prayerfully consider the level of weekly contributions above

your normal tithes and offerings. As you pray, meditate on the campaign theme

and scripture, “Let Us Rise and Build,” Neh. 2:18 (NASB), “And they said, let

us rise up and build, so they strengthened their hands for this good work.”

If you need an envelope and commitment card, ask any usher.

Friendship With God

“Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do?” — Genesis 18:17

Its Delights. This chapter br ings out the delight of real fr iendship with God as

compared with occasional feelings of His presence in prayer. To be so much in con-

tact with God that you never need to ask Him to show you His will, is to be nearing

the final stage of your discipline in the life of faith. When you are rightly related to

God, it is a life of freedom and liberty and delight, you are God’s will, and all your

commonsense decisions are His will for you unless He checks. You decide things in

perfect delightful friendship with God, knowing that if your decisions are wrong He

will always check; when He checks, stop at once.

Its Difficulties. Why did Abraham stop praying when he did? He was not inti-

mate enough yet to go boldly on until God granted his desire, there was something

yet to be desired in his relationship to God. Whenever we stop short in prayer and

say — “Well, I don’t know; perhaps it is not God’s will” — there is still another

stage to go. We are not so intimately acquainted with God as Jesus was, and as He

wants us to be — “That they may be one even as we are one.” Think of the last thing

you prayed about — were you devoted to your desire or to God? Determined to get

some gift of the Spirit or to get at God? “Your Heavenly Father knoweth what things

ye have need of before ye ask Him.” The point of asking is that you may get to know

God better. “Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of

thine heart.” Keep praying in order to get a perfect understanding of God Himself.

Wisdom From Oswald Chambers

We begin our Christian life by believing what we are told to believe, then we have to go on

to so assimilate our beliefs that they work out in a way that redounds to the glory of God.

The danger is in multiplying the acceptation of beliefs we do not make our own. Conformed

to His Image, 381 L

Devotional by Oswald Chambers from “My Utmost for His Highest”

First Baptist Church Abundant Life Groups

Weekends, January through June 2016

Registration Form

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” Acts 2:42 (NIV)

Abundant Life Groups (ALG) are small home fellowships. 7 benefits of small group ministry:

Life change happens best in small groups.

Small groups make churches personal.

“Come over to my house” is sometimes an easier invitation than "come with me to

church.”

Small groups can provide a sense of family for many who are estranged from their bio-

logical families, or their biological families are not available

People open up more in small groups.

Small groups make it possible for more people to be cared for between Sundays.

Small groups make the church more evangelistic and mission minded

The small group fellowships will take place in congregants’ homes who have volunteered to be

small group facilitators. The in-home fellowships will consist of no more that 8-10 persons, and

will last for approximately 1-½ hours. Refreshments will be provided. Small groups take place

every 3rd weekend of the month, starting January 2016 through June 2016. If interested in

participating, please provide the following information, so we can place you in a small group. A

letter will be sent to your home to inform you of the address, time, day, and identity of your small

group facilitators. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________
