The Carol blues by José J. Grimaldos. English 5 The nightfall caught them unaware inside the room they hadn´t left for long hours. They had been embracing each other and talking in a lower and lower voice, as if the twilight and then the darkness that they didn´t notice, were pacifying their voices but not their mutual craving for words, just as it had momentarily pacified their eagerness and desire. Carol looked tenderly at the body of her sleepy lover and she couldn´t help shivering slightly. She had the same feeling when she listened to ”Strangers in the Night”. Frank knew what she felt. She was afraid of living her former life again. She always submitted to her husband’s will. And he treated her like an object, a possession, because she had to rely on him as the sole breadwinner. The guy moved in the bed. A lock of black hair slip carelessly over his brow. She lovingly put it back into place and stared thoughtfully at her partner’s features. He was handsome. His incipient beard gave him a teenager look, but he was a man. He was handsome and charming. Yes, he was, but he was also tender and considerate towards her. She felt she was worthy again. Now it was different. She had a job, ideas... she had a choice. She had chosen that guy. He made her feel good, important... a human being. That guy was..., what was his name? The door was slammed. Carol woke up startled. It was her husband, he came back from his poker game. His Friday poker game with friends. Reality struck her as she recovered consciousness, making the gloomy room, her lover’s hair,... her dream vanish. Eventually, it was just a dream.
