As Easterseals ushers in nearly a century of serving people with disabilities nationally, there was a strong feeling that it was time for a fresh new look to help us reach a new generation of Easterseals supporters and families who need us.

Easterseals has a fresh new look

To help assure that Easterseals is seen as robust, modern, relevant and essential through the next 100 years, the traditional Easterseals lily has been transformed. We are pleased to introduce to you our brand new Easterseals logo.

While our look is changing, rest assured the core values of our organization remain the same. We remain a vital resource for people living with disabilities, seniors, caregivers and families, helping them to live, learn, work and play as a part of their community.

Dear Friends of Easterseals,

Sometimes we feel like Easterseals is a “best-kept secret.” Often people are familiar with our name, but unaware of the amazing range of services we offer for people with disabilities and seniors. If you’re over 50, you’ve likely heard of Easterseals, but national surveys have shown that with those under 50, Easterseals ranks extremely low in awareness!

That’s why we are excited with the decision by National Easterseals to launch a bold, modern look for our organization. You’ll notice our name is all one word now. This whole new look was done to help introduce Easterseals to a new generation of families who need our services and a new generation of supporters, many of whom don’t remember the lily or the history behind it. Transforming our look will help broaden the support we receive so we can reach more people and do more for those we already are serving.

While our look is changing, our extraordinary mission helping people with disabilities reach their goals for independence remains the same. In 2016, with your support, we served more than 29,500 individuals with disabilities and their families through both direct and indirect services. Here are some highlights of 2016:

• Easterseals Camp Fairlee served a record 695 campers after the completion of a major expansion and modernization project. CAMPaign Fairlee was launched to make sure Camp Fairlee is there to serve even more people with year-round respite and recreational activities.

• Easterseals earned the highest accreditation possible and an ‘Exemplary” rating for a project in our Children’s Therapy Services by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. Camp Fairlee also earned full accreditation by the American Camping Association.

• Partnering with more than 60 local businesses statewide, Easterseals served a record 130 people in individualized and group supported employment, with all earning minimum wages or better.

• The 2016 Easterseals/CAI Volleyball Challenge raised more than $352,000 and the Walk With Me Delmarva raised more than $39,000!

There remain some critical challenges. Increased costs to transport our clients each day have significantly impacted our operating budgets and the people we serve. Reimbursement rates by the federal and state government continue to lag as much as 15 to 20% below what it costs us to provide many services, which makes your financial support even more important.

More than 90% of our revenue goes directly to support disability services. Your generous support of Easterseals helps us remain a vital community resource for people living with disabilities, seniors, caregivers and families! Thank you! Sincerely,

Life-Changing Services

Easterseals indirect services benefited approximately 23,200 individuals with disabilities and their families through Easterseals outreach activities such as education and training, information and referral services and disability education awareness.

Easterseals Delaware & Maryland’s Eastern Shore touched the lives of more than 29,500 people with disabilities and their families in FY16 through direct and indirect services, including:

• 596 adults with intellectual disabilities who participated in community-based services at Eas-terseals, including those in supported-employment and community experiences programs.

• 1,648 adults with disabilities and/or conditions of aging who relied on Easterseals for Personal Attendant or In-Home Services to help with activities of daily living, allowing them to remain living independently in their community.

• 194 adults with disabilities who were provided a safe and supportive place to come each day while their loved ones went to work or attended to other needs through our adult day care services.

• 695 children and adults who benefited from recreation and respite at Camp Fairlee, including travel trips and special camp sessions for children with autism.

• 1,938 children and adults with a variety of disabilities who received the services of our highly qualified therapists.

• 205 individuals who benefited from assistive technology services at Easterseals.

• 1,048 individuals were served through our Community Outreach Program, including our Resource and Technology Demonstration Center, assistive technology low interest loan program, the Caregiver Resource Center and the Special Needs Alert Program (SNAP).

Launching CAMPaign Fairlee

Longtime Easterseals Camp Fairlee camper, Jamal Cannady, enjoyed hanging out with Governor Jack Markell as part of the evening’s celebration of the launch of a $4.5 million capital campaign for the recent expansion and modernization of the camp. CAMPaign Fairlee will assure that camp will be able to serve more individuals with disabilities and their families for years to come.

Volunteers at Easterseals

More than one thousand volunteers helped Easterseals meet the needs of people with disabilities and their families in 2016. Some donated a few hours of their time at events; others worked in the programs each week doing whatever they can to help people with disabilities live, learn, work and play in their communities.

Every year District 7630 Rotary Club volunteers come to Camp Fairlee for two inspiring work days in April. Whether it’s building a new wheelchair ramp or cleaning up an accessible trail in the woods, Rotarians play an important part of preparing Camp Fairlee for campers with disabilities.

Funding Innovative Therapy Through the Adami Fund

Sensory Gym

The Children’s Therapy department in Salisbury, MD, was awarded the second annual “Bill Adami Fund for Innovation” for construction of a “Sensory Gym” for use in therapy. The fund was created in memory of Easterseals late President/CEO, and longtime disability advocate, William J. Adami to inspire Easterseals staff to submit innovative ideas to improve services for Easterseals clients.

“This year’s award will help hundreds of children meet their full potential for years to come,” said Craig Binetti, Easterseals Board Member and Chair of the Adami Fund for Innovation Committee. “We hope to continue to grow the fund so additional innovative ideas can be implemented throughout Easterseals.

Hitting the Courts for Easterseals

The Easterseals/CAI Volleyball Challenge raised more than $352,000 critically needed dollars for Easterseals services for families in our region. The Democrats emerged victorious in the 11th annual Democrats vs. Republicans Volleyball Challenge, ending a four year winning streak by the Republicans. The 2016 Walk With Me & 5k Fun Run Delmarva event raised more than $39,000 to support services for children and adults with disabilities! Many thanks go to the Easterseals Sussex Advisory Board, team members, their families, community sponsors, volunteers and staff. More than 200 people including 23 teams participated in the walk.
