If you are unable to donate, please drop us a line and share your thoughts about KLCS programs and services.

Our pledge schedule will include music, southern food, “best of” KLCS productions, the LA Harbor, health and well-being and more!

We hope that you feel that KLCS can be your companion during this wonderful month of celebration and appreciation.

Kennedy Half Century

Based on Larry Sabato’s new book, The Kennedy Half-Century chronicles the impact and influence of John F. Kennedy’s life, administration and tragic death on the general public, the media and every subsequent U.S. president. John F. Kennedy’s legacy endured due to the early efforts of family and friends, Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society” programs, Ronald Reagan’s tax cuts and Cold War strategies, Bill Clinton’s infatuation with the 35th president,

and the “twinning” of JFK and Barrack Obama in the 2008 presidential campaign. The compelling one-hour documentary features interviews with major political and media figures, including Bob Schieffer, Ron Reagan Jr., Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Ari Fleischer, James Carville, Julian Bond, Andrew Bell and Larry Sabato, among others.

Airs Tuesday, November 12th at 8PM

Eye on The Sixties: The Iconic Photography of Rowland Scherman

Eye on The Sixties is an intimate portrait of photographer Rowland Scherman, who captured the transformational events and figures of the 1960s, including the March on Washington, the Newport Folk Festival, Woodstock, the first Beatles concert in the United States, the burial of the Apollo I astronauts at Arlington National Cemetery, and the 1968 presidential campaign of Robert F. Kennedy, among many others. At the sites of some of his most famous photos, Scherman shares candid and insightful recollections and seldom-seen images of politicians and celebrities of that era. In present-day and archival interviews, singer Judy Collins, LIFE journalist and PEOPLE magazine founder Richard B. Stolley and other notables share their thoughts on Scherman and his enduring work.

Sitting Bull: A Stone in My Heart

This award-winning documentary makes extensive use of Sitting Bull’s own words, giving the viewer an intimate portrait of one of America’s legendary figures in all his complexities as a leader of the great Sioux Nation, presents the story of a warrior, spiritual leader and skilled diplomat. Sitting Bull’s words, as portrayed by Adam Fortunate Eagle, dominate the story. Augmented by a narrator’s historical perspective, over six-hundred historical photographs and images, and a compelling original music score, the film brings to life the little-know human side of Sitting Bull as well as the story of a great man’s struggle to maintain his people’s way of life against

an ever-expanding westward movement of white settlers. It is a powerful cinematic journey into the life and spirit of a legendary figure of whom people have often heard of but don’t really know. Winner of the Best Documentary award at the Big Water Film Festival; Best Documentary Feature (second Place) Native American Voices (second place) at the Fargo Film Festival; Official Selection at Santa Barbara International Film Festival, American Indian Film Festival (San Francisco), Tiburon International Film Festival, and the Ojai Film Festival.

Airs Tuesday, November 19th at 9PM

JFK: American Experience

This biography provides a fresh look at an enigmatic man, who remains one of the nation’s most beloved and mourned leaders. Beginning with Kennedy’s childhood years as the privileged but sickly second son of one the wealthiest men in America, the film explores his early political career as a lackluster congressman, his successful run for the U.S. Senate and the game-changing presidential campaign that made him the youngest elected president in U.S. history. With the benefit of recently opened archives, the film recounts his struggles with life-threatening illnesses and his efforts to keep them hidden from the public. JFK offers new perspective on his complicated private life, including his relationship with his wife, his close connection to his younger brother, Robert and his complex bond with his powerful father. It also reevaluates Kennedy’s strengths and weaknesses in the Oval Office as he navigated some of the most explosive events of the mid-20th century —the disastrous failure at the Bay of Pigs, the urgent demands of an increasingly impatient civil rights movement, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the escalating conflict in Southeast Asia.

Two part series airs Saturday, November 23rd and 30th at 6PM

Jimi Hendrix: American Masters

This new documentary unveils previously unseen performance footage - such as the 1968 Miami Pop Festival -and home movies while sourcing an extensive archive of photographs, drawings, family letters and more to provide new insight into the musician’s personality and genius with interviews with Hendrix himself, commentary from well-known friends and musicians including Paul McCartney, Noel Redding, Mitch Mitchell, Billy Cox, Eddie Kramer, Steve Winwood, as well as revealing glimpses into Jimi from those closest to him. The film details the meteoric rise of the Experience, the creation of his groundbreaking music, the building of Electric Lady Studios, his state of the art recording facility in Greenwich Village, and concludes with poignant footage from his final performance in Germany in September 1970, just 12 days before his death at age 27. A pioneering electric guitarist, Hendrix had only four years of mainstream exposure and recognition, but his influential music and riveting stage presence left an enduring legacy. Directed by two-time Grammy-winner Bob Smeaton (The Beatles Anthology; Festival Express).

Nova: Cold Case JFK

For decades, the assassination of John F. Kennedy has fueled dark rumors of conspiracies and mishandled evidence. Now, 50 years later, NOVA asks: Could modern investigators do better? We’ll see how state-of-the art forensic tools would be applied to the investigation were it to happen today. At the same time, NOVA takes a critical look at contemporary cases, like the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, to reveal how charges of evidence

mishandling and human error can mar even scientifically sophisticated detective work. Will forensics ever be truly foolproof, or does modern technology just give a scientific sheen to a practice that will always be more art than science?

Nature: Love in the Animal Kingdom

Animals dance, sing, flirt and compete with everything they’ve got to find and secure a mate. For many, the all-important bonds they share as a couple are what enable the next generation to survive. But can we call these bonds love? In this look at the love life of animals, we see the feminine wiles of a young gorilla, the search for Mr. Right among a thousand flamingos, the open “marriages” of blue-footed boobies, the soap opera arrangements of gibbons, and all the subtle, outrageous, romantic antics that go into finding a partner. These are love stories all right, as various and intriguing as the lovers themselves.

Airs Sunday, November 17th at 5PM and Thursday, November 21st at 7PM
