JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Summer Schools and Events Manager Service: External and Strategic Development Service Campus/Location: Docklands Grade: F Responsible to: Head of Education and Community Partnerships Responsible for: Line management of Partnership Officer Co-ordination of staff to deliver including academic, service and external staff, hourly paid lecturers and hourly paid students Liaison with: Staff schools and colleges, staff in UEL support services, Schools and Colleges Partnership Manager, Head of Business Partnerships, a range of local organisations engaging with school and college students to develop skills and aspirations Job Purpose: To develop, co-ordinate, deliver and quality assure the UEL summer school and outreach events programme. Main Duties: 1. To create a coherent programme of summer schools for students aged 14-19 from our partner schools and colleges. To additionally lead on the creation of a full events programme linked to our core outreach themes of Enterprise, Sport, STEM and Creative 2. To liaise with academic staff to create appropriate and high quality curriculum content alongside a range of social, skills and progression related content 3. To project manage the development and delivery of summer schools and other events aligned to our core outreach themes 4. To liaise internally to secure the best contributions to the programme from a range of staff 5. To liaise with staff in schools and colleges to negotiate and tailor the offer to ensure recruitment targets are met and to ensure the best experience for students participating 6. To event manage all activities including room bookings, co-ordinating staff and student tutors, programme development, and planning additional resources 7. To create and manage a marketing campaign to attract students to our summer schools and events. To work with Corporate marketing through existing communication channels and to develop new ones in order to achieve this, including new social media, web page and case studies 8. To design methods for capturing monitoring data for all activity delivered as part of the Summer Schools and Events Programme and to co-ordinate this data capture

  • 9. To design methods for and to manage the capture of participant feedback (including staff feedback) to monitor the quality of the offer. Further, to suggest methods for assessing impact of our summer schools and events and to implement the methods selected by head of team

    10. To plan for and manage safe learning environments for all events using best practice in child safeguarding and risk management

    11. To contribute to the relationship management model in the Education and Community Partnerships team by particularly focusing on a portfolio of lead contacts that support our overall relationships with partner schools and colleges

    12. To contribute to the development of an aftercare package for students who have attended our summer schools and events

    13. To develop publicity materials to support and market our offer including zap banners, posters, web pages, case studies and study guides

    14. To promote the value of progressing to university in all aspects of the role and to act as an ambassador for UEL

    15. To promote equality of opportunity through all aspects of the role including through the use of role models and programme/event content which reflects UELs diverse community

    16. To undertake evening work, occasional overnight stays and weekend work as required by the post

    17. To undertake other duties commensurate with the grade as directed by the Head of education and Community Partnerships or the Director of Service

  • PERSON SPECIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS: Essential criteria 1. First degree Desirable criteria 2. Teaching qualification

    KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: Essential ctiteria 3. Experience of developing and delivering summer schools and other themed events 4. Experience of delivering activities for young people, particularly in the 14-19 phase of

    education 5. A thorough understanding of managing safe learning environments including child

    safeguarding policy and practice 6. Experience of project planning and managing multi-stranded educational projects 7. Experience of designing and implementing systems for capturing monitoring and other data to

    evaluate the student experience and the impact of the activities delivered Desirable criteria 8. Experience of marketing events via printed materials, web and social media such as Facebook

    and Twitter 9. COMMUNICATION: A. Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to liaise with a range of

    support and teaching staff across the university and in partner schools and colleges and other local organisations

    B. Experience of communicating with students to understand their specific and general needs 10. TEAM WORK AND MOTIVATION: Experience of managing staff and students to deliver workshops whilst ensuring the quality of provision 11. PLANNING AND ORGANISING: Experience of planning, prioritising and organising the work of yourself and others with limited supervision, engendering strong team working to ensure projects are delivered as specified and on time 12. INITIATIVE AND PROBLEM SOLVING: Experience of using initiative and creativity to resolve problems by analysing a range of information including diverse or opposing information in order to find practical and suitable solutions

    13. LIAISON AND NETWORKING Ability to negotiate with partners to develop provision including selecting the most appropriate content and delivery method OTHER ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: 14. Ability to use Microsoft Office effectively and accurately 15. Ability and willingness to work flexibly including evenings and weekends and some short stays
